  • Great for eliminating acid reflux!
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 2)
Acid reflux occurs, at least for me and everyone I know who has it, when you don't have enough acid. The stomach sends a signal to the esophagus valve to relax when stomach acid is low, allowing some of the acid to enter. Usage 1: Using the HCL increases the stomach acid so it will shut off the valve. This works much better than anti-acid and last much longer. However, as one gets older, stomach acid naturally gets reduced requiring more of this HCL supplement. I've been executing Usage 2 below for many years because of this. Usage 2: Taking PPI pills can take the stomach acid to near zero. In my opinion, the side effects of near zero are completely eliminated by taking a few of the HCL pills with meals. Larger meals means more pills (I limit mine to 4). I've been totally free from acid reflux for many years without side effects. ... show more

  • Aids Digestion – Effective and Affordable Supplement!
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 1)
I've been using Nutricost Betaine HCl + Pepsin for a few weeks now, and it has truly improved my digestion. I’ve always struggled with digestive discomfort after meals, but since I started taking these, I’ve noticed less bloating and better digestion overall. The combination of Betaine HCl and Pepsin really seems to help my body break down food more efficiently. The 790mg per capsule is a great dose, and I only need to take one capsule with meals, which makes it easy to incorporate into my routine. The 240-capsule bottle is a fantastic value and lasts a long time, so it’s very affordable for the quality. I appreciate that Nutricost is known for high-quality, no-nonsense supplements, and this one is no exception. If you’re looking to support your digestive health, reduce discomfort, or just improve overall digestion, I highly recommend Nutricost Betaine HCl + Pepsin. ... show more

  • Poor quality control but excellent product Poor quality control but excellent product
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 1)
At least 2 capsules came open and several were disfigured, so there was a bunch of powder in the container. That's the worst I can say about it. If you're like me and was prescribed nexium or Prilosec over the years for stomach issues, then you might also be like me and had wound up having digestive problems including bloating, constipation, and the inability to digest foods that you'd eaten all your life. I came across an article that mentioned needing to take 3-4 of these a meal every day and tapering down for about 2 months. Well, here I am 2 months later and I might take 1 or 2 through the entire day. I rarely get bloated anymore unless I just eat too much. I can actually tell that I'm absorbing nutrients from my food now as I need to take less and less supplements. Unless you have ulcers, stomach acid is good for you. I can't believe I ever thought a doctor was right to tell me I had too much stomach acid. The naivety of 21 year old I guess. Though I need them less often, I've still purchased one more container to have on hand for those times I might overeat. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Use with caution when starting out.
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 1)
If you have heartburn or GURD. This is the best cure for it. I take this at dinner and rarely get heartburn. Betain should always be taken with pepsin. Some do not do well with it and I recommend throughly researching it before you give it a try.

  • No more painful heartburn
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 1)
I weaned from heartburn medicine because it was taking more and more to be comfortable. "Betaine HCL + Pepsin" was scary for me to try and I admit I was skeptical but it has changed my life for the better. Taking just one capsule with each meal has given me the correct stomach acid level I need to digest my food and move it from my stomach into my intestines. I've used this for 3+years and it was a bit of experimenting to get better but I am much better. ... show more

  • Nutricost Tests All Their Products! Read!
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 1)
Debating/researching what brand to buy? I did the same for many, many days on supplements. Read below! I love that Nutricost tests all their products. You can literally contact them, with the LOT# on the bottle and they will send you test results. Why is that important? Many companies for one do not provide tests results if asked, you will usually get ignored or receive a generic response. It is also important because a lot of supplements can have heavy metals/contaminates in them and there is no warning of this. An example would be, almost all Ceylon Cinnamon across the world will have some type of contaimenants no matter what. I purchased some from Nutricost, contacted them about what tests have been done, they asked for the LOT# on the bottle and I received the test results the next day. The tests showed all levels of contaimenants were VERY low / in the range we're the body will not be effected. Many spices have contaimenants so keep that in mind! We tend to cook with them and have no idea. Make sure to look up Third Party Heavy Metal Spice test results, you will find a few lists of which brands are okay to buy. One of the very few Supplement Companies I trust! BUY NOW! :) ... show more

  • Too strong, a little weird
Size: 240 Count (Pack of 2)
I had been using the Thorne brand betaine HCL with enzymes for a long time, but it's been out of stock so I tried this. This is much cheaper, it's a similar formulation and it does work very well - in fact, too well, at least for me. One of these capsules will make me very sick to my stomach unless I take it with a really large high fat, high protein meal. I've been taking HCL for ~6 years for reflux, and it works very effectively to control it but I have to have the dose just right. This is too strong for me most of the time. I sometimes take 1 capsule of the Thorne brand with a regular meal and it's perfect, but 1 capsule of this stuff will make me really sick to my stomach unless I take it with a meal that's something like half a package of bacon scrambled into 5 eggs, a bunch of cheese, etc. I do that sometimes, but I don't do it often. I would only recommend these if you have really bad reflux symptoms, or regularly eat really large meals or have severely low stomach acid. A year ago this would have worked better for me, because my reflux was worse and I had to take 3 capsules of the Thorne HCL with every meal. Now I often go without, or just take 1. But 1 of these is usually way too strong and makes me sick. If I take too much of the Thorne I will have the same symptoms so that's why I say it's a dosage or strength issue. Another weird thing about this is that every time I put it in my mouth it makes me cough. It's like I inhale a tiny bit of the HCL and it irritates my lungs. Not a lot, just a little; just one cough. But I've taken a lot of supplements over the last 40 years and never experienced anything like this. I also noticed from the moment I opened the bottle that the capsules would leave kind of a sticky grit on my fingers. Both of these things happened every time I used it from when I first opened the bottle to when I finished it. I never saw a capsule that I could tell was broken or leaking. I have had plenty of experiences over the years of a capsule doing that but I generally never noticed until the bottom of the bottle and there would just be some powder there, and often I could identify the failed capsule. So I'm not sure if one of the capsules did leak or if this is just normal for the way they encapsulate the product. It seems clear that this powder is stickier than most and gets all over stuff, in any case. Amazon no longer carries the Thorne but I can get it directly from their website so I have gone back to that and have to use this on those rare occasions when I feel ravenous and eat a giant meal. ... show more
