  • Useful to experiment small batches
Style: Standard
Used to brew 15g batches and propane as heat. I wanted something smaller to experiment. First attempt. Boiled over as I left lid on during boil, removed lid and does not do a hard boil. I have the 110v version and brewing in a 60degree room. Partial lid placement helped but element never shut off or reached desired temp. 204-206 by thermometer. Clean up relatively easy. Dishwasher and boiled water and wipe down. Cooling wort with copper coil. Would be easier if you could go to external and pump back. But I do not have pump version. Maybe in future I'll add one. Overall does what it says. I'll use it maybe 2 times per month and if I like the results beer I'll brew in larger batch. Update. 4 batches later, I built a stand for it to sit on as when lifting basket out you need a little height, so lower the table top to help when lifting out. Or hoist it! I switched to a plate cooler and connect a pump to the outlet spigot, way easier than a copper coil wort chiller. Adjust temperature using a known good thermometer, instructions show how. Play around with menu to understand how it does what it does, and you will be happy to set it. Overall. I am extremely pleased, it's simple enough. Another lesson learnt. The bottom of the mash tun could become lifted allowing grain outside of the basket. So drop in water first and then tip the grain. Not the other way round. Careful with the spoon you don't unseat the wire screen. Again though. I bought from Amazon warehouse and for the money was an excellent buy and does what it's set out for. ... show more

  • Fairly good so far
I'll preface this by stating there is a card inside the box asking to review within 7 days of delivery for a 1 year warranty. So far the product seems pretty decent. I brewed my first batch last night, which took quite longer than I expected. I'm used to extract brewing in an 8 gallon kettle on my stove, which typically takes 3 hours from start to pitching yeast. This device takes significantly longer to heat up, so it took at least 4.5 hours from start to finish. The thermometer in it is also not accurate, as I don't think I ever read over 206F even though the water was boiling at 212F. It is easy enough to use, and the pump seems like a necessity. I'll also say that the packaging on the machine and parts was very odd, with the false bottom wrapped and hidden between styrofoam and the bottom of the box. It was also bent because of that poor packaging job... We'll see how the beer turns out and I'll update the review afterwards. ... show more

  • Highly recommend
Style: Standard
I love it. It makes homebrewing so much easier. Takes about 1 hour 20 min to bring to a boil. I love how the basket lifts up and remains in place. Thermometer is off a few degrees but I just reprogrammed to what it thinks the temperature is. I would highly recommend The bottom of the strainer is in the bottom of the box wrapped in paper. Do not throw away ... show more

  • Missing the mash screen, but I don't want to return the entire machine.
The machine looks solid and of good quality. Doing the test and cleaning now with no leaks so far.

  • Poor Temperature Control
I thought I was improving my brewing process with this - way off. First, it took forever to reach desired temperatures, which I accepted as a trade off to gas. Unfortunately the temperature I needed to control the most, the mash, kept going way too high. I managed to get through that, then the boil problem came. The highest the control showed was 194. I do live at elevation, so I expected something in the range of 201-205 but at least a rolling boil. This reached 194 (after a very long wait) and it is barely bubbling. The slow heating meant that my brewing process, normally 4-4.5 hours, was almost six. Hoping I can return it used. Don't ever plan to use it again, ... show more

  • First time brewing, and successful from the start
The media could not be loaded. It is remarkably easy to use. Pretty much just take it out of the box, plug it in, pop on the easy to attach recirculation hose, and you're off! A couple of downsides are the lack of a wort chiller, and the temperature control isn't *quite* right as it was shoeing 206f when it was a steady rolling boil showing that it was clearly at least 212f. There may be calibration settings that I simply have yet to find. But the fact I could do my first ever brew the same night I unboxed it, far too excited to read all the instructions, is evidence of just how easy it is to use. Overall I'd definitely recommend it. ... show more
