Description

Novation’s ultra-responsive, highly expressive 25-key MIDI keyboard hosts a comprehensive array of fully assignable controls, integrates seamlessly with Ableton Live, Apple Logic Pro, Avid Pro Tools and other major music software, and is built to be a true player’s instrument. From the Manufacturer Precision keyboard with a full control surface using Automap control software. View largerNovation Impulse USB Midi Controller KeyboardImpulse is a range of professional USB/MIDI controllers. They each have a precision keyboard and a full control surface powered by a brand new version of Novation's Automap control software, Automap 4, which makes getting hands-on with your DAW/plug-ins fast and simple. Impulse also has 8 backlit drum pads that can warp arpeggios, roll beats, and launch Live clips.Precision Keyboard: Ultra-Responsive, Semi-Weighted Keyboard with Aftertouch Impulse has a precision 'players' keyboard. It is semi-weighted with assignable aftertouch and has been designed to feel like an instrument rather than a computer peripheral. In addition to feeling good, it is incredibly accurate--this means it can translate musical expression (how you play the keyboard) extremely effectively. So your performance is reflected exactly by the synth or software instrument you are triggering.Automap 4 Control Software Spend More Time Making Music, Less Time Reading User GuidesMany MIDI controllers have knobs, faders and buttons, but using them is difficult and time consuming. Impulse (as with all Novation controllers) comes with Automap control software. This gives you instant mapping to the things you need to control, meaning you can make full use of faders, knobs and buttons on Impulse to get hands-on with your DAW and plug-ins.Full DAW/Plug-In Control SurfaceWith 8 knobs, 9 faders and buttons, and a custom LCD screen (1 fader and button on Impulse 25), the control surface allows you to get hands-on control for your DAW and plug-ins. Novation has worked with all the major DAWs and plug-ins to make sure that you get instant control of your mixer, transport controls and plug-in instruments and effects.Multi-Function Drum Pads: Warp Arpeggios, Roll Beats and Launch Clips in Ableton LiveImpulse has 8 quality-feel drum pads that are velocity- sensitive with aftertouch. These are backlit with 3-color LEDs which means they can do things other drum pads can't, like warping arpeggios in real time, rolling beats and launching clips in Ableton Live (Ableton Live Lite 8 comes with Impulse).Works with All Major DAWs and Plug-In Instruments and EffectsNovation has worked with major music software manufacturers to ensure Impulse gives you instant hands-on control. In addition to the major DAWs-- Reason, Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, and Ableton Live--Impulse and Automap 4 have been specially designed to give you full control of 3rd party plug-in instruments and effects, like Native Instruments, Waves, or FXpansion.USB Bus PoweredImpulse is USB powered, with expression and sustain pedal inputs as well as MIDI in and out ports for connecting external MIDI instruments.Which Novation Impulse Professional USB/MIDI Controller is right for you?Impulse 25 Impulse 49 Impulse 61 Number of keys 25 49 61 Unit size (LxWxH) 20.6" x 13" x 3.9" 33.3" x 13" x 3.93" 40.2" x 13" x 3.9" Weight 7.71 11.02 14.33 Precision semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch Automap software Ableton Live Lite, Novation's Bass Station synth and a Loopmasters sample pack included USB powered Expression and sustain pedal inputs MIDI in and out ports for connecting external MIDI instruments Number of faders 1 9 9

  • A great MIDI controller for piano players
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
I purchased this keyboard to start working more with MIDI sample packs and add some more depth to my recordings and I was duly impressed with the quality of this controller. The most impressive thing for me was the key feel; the semi-weighted, closed front keys have a very authentic feel and action to them which makes them very pleasing to play. Since I use Ableton, all of the controls were easily mapped and fully functional with very little setup necessary; it was very much a plug and play experience. My only qualms: 1. The Automap software was fairly useless and also installed Bonjour on my system, but a couple of quick uninstalls and that was resolved. 2. The feel of the drum pads. They feel very stiff to me and did not articulate quite the way I was expecting, needing more force to get the right sound out of them than I was expecting. However, I do understand that these pads are not designed with the same feel as non-keyboard style MIDI controllers (such as the Novation Push and the Native Instruments Mashine) and once I used them for a little while, I became more accustomed to the feel they had. Bottom line, this is a great controller and one to seriously consider if you are in the market for a keyboard style MIDI controller. ... show more

  • Great midi controller for Logic (or Garage Band)
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
For a guitar player interested in learning basic keyboard, this is a handy unit. Not enough keys for playing a bass line with the left hand, but fine for chords and scales. The 'Automap' software (included) easily mapped to the latest version of Logic, running on Lion OS. The knobs, buttons and transport keys all work in Logic/ GarageBand. In short: - This unit, nor the M-Audio, etc. cannot make 'sounds' without a computer. - The 'sounds' it can make go way beyond piano. It can be a bass, drums, sitar, South African Vocals, etc. or a combination thereof. Whatever came with Logic/GarageBand. - You can control Logic functions directly from the keyboard, you can control plug ins from the keyboard. At it's simplest level, just using the transport (play, stop, rewind, f.f.) keys makes editing, in Logic/GarageBand, much easier. It's a sturdy unit, and a lot of fun for the price. If you have a 'soft touch' on the keys, RTFM and set the sensitivity from '2' to '3' or '4'. Note that a really good keyboardist will want more keys, and also want them 'weighted.' I.e. They'll want something expensive (of course). ... show more

  • To use with Logic Pro X / Ableton Live
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
Is as simple as connecting the usb to your mac, running automap and boom there you are. The only thing I haven't been able to do is to control mute and solo buttons from it as it has no assignable buttons available, but for the rest it works amazingly. if you want to launch different samples or sounds with the drum pad you will have to map it yourself though, but it is so simple it won't take more than a minute. You can create, edit and save 20 presets, for live set artists thats dope. ... show more

  • Not compatible with Pro Tools 11 - Beautiful piece of hardware though.
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
Reading the manufacturers description, I was under the impression this is fully functional with Pro Tools 11. The description states "Works with All Major DAWs and Plug-In Instruments and Effects" and goes further to even list out Pro Tools. However, I was very disappointed to get to the end of the setup and see a note that says AAX is not supported. So, you can use the fader and assign the knobs to certain Pro Tools functions, but none of your Plug-in Instruments and Effects will work. Additionally, there is apparently no plan to ever support it based upon the statements on Novation's website (search for AAX in their answer base). If you are not using Pro Tools, I would definitely recommend this. It is a really nice piece of hardware. The keys have a really nice feel and the pads are in my opinion incredible. It is really done well from a styling standpoint as well. Pros -Nice keys, with very good response -Excellent Pads, very nice feel and response -Solid product design, beautiful to look at Cons - Does not work "with All Major DAWs and Plug-In Instruments and Effects" as stated - No AAX support for Pro Tools 11 and no clear plan for future support, although there is some limited functionality outside of plugins and effects. ... show more

  • TESTING THE WATERS
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
Really good little mini keyboard. The board is made pretty good. The knobs do feel pretty cheap though so be careful with them they seem to be really really easy to turn~ too easy. This keyboard comes with a great selection of loops to set up in your DAW. It's fairly big about twice the size of your computer keyboard in depth. And maybe a little more in length. It's portable but a little bit heavy for a portable keyboard. I baught it for the transfer controls record, play ect. I was really eyeing the larger 61 and wishing for an 88 key. So I thought I would test the waters with this little guy. I really like that it has a MOD wheel by the pitch bender there on the left. Really a pretty nice unit a little expensive but may be worth it. If your the type of person who upgrades there keyboard a lot maybe not but if you want a pretty decent one you plan on holding on to which is my category I'd say go for it. Key action to me is sort of med range. I accually prefer a sort of a stiffer finger bed but for a little guy with all these options and the great loops and assignment software for the buttons you really can't go wrong. I am really looking forward to playing with it more. I'm pretty happy with this purchase so far. ... show more

  • Good controller.
Style: Controller Pattern Name: Keyboard
Great unit. Very solidly made. Novation stuff rocks. Perfect size so it does not eat up all your counter space. Obviously be sure you understand what you are buying. This is not a keyboard. It is a controller. Without plugging it into a computer with the right software, you will not be able to get a peep out of it. Comes with Ableton Lite which is hard to master, but super powerful. ... show more
