  • FLKeys Mini 25: Don't Let the Size Fool You
Style: 25 Keys Mini
Remember that childhood dream of being a rockstar, but adulthood snuck up on you and all you have is a tiny desk and questionable life choices? Well, fret no more, because the FLKeys Mini 25 is here to make your musical dreams a reality – minus the questionable spandex and excessive hairspray. This miniature maestro is specifically designed to supercharge your FL Studio productions. Don't be fooled by its size, this little keyboard is brimming with big personality. Those 25 mini keys? They might be on the shorter side, but they play like a dream. Imagine tiny, responsive pianos that respond to your touch with the enthusiasm of a toddler discovering bubble wrap. It's pure, unadulterated fun at your fingertips. But this keyboard is so much more than just a keyboard. It's your gateway to beat-making bliss. Equipped with 16 glorious RGB backlit pads, this little guy lets you unleash your inner drummer (or DJ, or whatever beat-making persona you're feeling today). These aren't just your average pads – they're like miniature trampolines for your creativity, begging to be pounded with rhythmic inspiration. And with the RGB lights putting on a mini light show with every hit, you might just find yourself composing symphonies of light and sound that would make even Daft Punk jealous. Here's the real magic trick: FLKeys integrates with FL Studio like cheese integrates with macaroni. It's a match made in music production heaven. All the controls you need are right there at your fingertips, from recording and transport to navigating your masterpiece. It's like having a musical co-pilot whispering sweet production secrets in your ear. Now, let's be honest, those mini keys might feel a bit like playing the piano with baby mittens at first. But that's also what makes this little keyboard so darn portable! Think of it as your musical muse on the go. Toss it in your backpack, hop on a bus, and crank out a future chart-topper while you're hurtling down the highway. So, if you're looking for a keyboard that packs a mighty punch in a pint-sized package, then the FLKeys Mini 25 is your new best friend. It's got the brains, the beauty (seriously, those light-up pads are strangely hypnotic), and the brawn to turn your musical ideas into reality. Just be prepared for your pet goldfish to develop a sudden fascination with the flashing lights – hey, maybe you've just inspired your next aquatic EDM prodigy! My Verdict: Not to be too obvious, but it's pretty safe to assume I'm giving this little guy two thumbs up. Four thumbs if we're counting toes. ... show more

  • Thankful I bought this
Style: 25 Keys Mini
Syncs perfectly w FL Studio. I love the lighting design. It easily fits in a backpack. And with 3 way pay, it's budget conscious while getting a quality MIDI controller for FL Studio. I have used the Akai Mini, but since I use FL Studio primarily, I prefer these 25 keys and pads because they look great and feel good and naturally sync w the software its designed for. But if you're not looking for portability, go for the next size up. ... show more

  • Surprised by how well it worked
Style: 61 Keys
Tho the plastic is kinda cheaply made it makes up for it in performance, the pads are soft and sensitive the keys have good velocity response and it's pretty much plug and play. Didn't have to program the faders or panning knows every thing was ready to go. Very happy with its built in note repeace and various other uses. Now we just need a weighted version ... show more

  • Awesome for FL Studio! Only thing I really dislike is the automation
Style: 37 Keys
I got the FLKey 37. This is my first MIDI keyboard and I really like it. I love that the pads are sensitive to your touch. You just tap it and it registers the hit. No "click" or anything, so it makes it pretty good for making drum beats. I especially love how you can play scales and even emulate a piano keyboard on the pads. The piano keys are pretty nice and the pots (the little black knobs at the top) are very satisfying to turn. The whole thing feels pretty sturdy and it seems to be constructed with good quality parts. I really love how you get some free goodies that would otherwise cost you a few hundred dollars, so the price is definitely a snag if you want an authentic-sounding piano along with several other instruments/effects. It's a really good product and it's definitely something you will want to get as a beginner. Now for some complaints. First, the velocity curve feels wrong. It takes a lot of effort to get the velocity up high. It feels wrong to me that I have to practically slam the keys to get high velocity. Of course, you can change the velocity curve in the settings (or even disable it if you want). The same goes for the pads, but you can change the velocity curve as well. That's great and I definitely recommend changing it unless you love hitting hard. Next is the key count. It's good for writing melodies, but as soon as I started playing around with it, I realized that 37 keys aren't enough if you want to play with something that has as wide of a range as a piano. It will suffice for now, but I wish that they made a version with 61 or more keys. I might end up buying another keyboard in the future for that reason. It's a shame, too, because FLKey has so much potential. The thing that really irks me, however, is the automation. You can't custom assign the pots to plugin parameters using MIDI learn as they are only programmed to do that with the stock FL Studio instruments. It's actually amusing to me that they don't even bother programming the controls for the free software that you get by buying FLKey (if you're going to team up with instrument makers the least you could do is make sure your product works with them). Being a programmer myself, however, I found out that you can mess with the settings on scripts used to control the keyboard. I can add synths that I have installed and assign the pots to certain functions that appear in the parameters section under the current project browser (I haven't tested it with effect plugins yet, so I don't know how that will go). The mod and pitch wheel are globally linked by default, meaning that you can modulate them with a bit of programming-free tinkering (they appear under the "remote control" section in the current project browser). I don't know whether or not the scripts get updated, because if they do then your modifications will be overwritten. It feels like a shoddy fix because of that and it's the reason why I gave it 4 out of 5 stars, as most of you will likely use different synthesizers other than the stock FL Studio ones. Overall, if you are just starting out with FL Studio and expect to use the stock instruments, then it should fit you just fine. Otherwise with a bit of dirty work, you can modify it to fit your needs, but you need to have a bit of knowledge about programming so most will find it at least somewhat difficult. I really love how much more immersed you are in your music making when you get a keyboard, and the same applies to automation. By being able to use knobs instead of the mouse to control parameters, I feel that I have more control over my sounds. Because of that, I recommend you tinker around with the scripts a little (specifically, the native_pot_parameters.py in the novation/script file where the scripts for Novation midi keyboards are stored) if you want to get the most out of this product. ... show more

  • Great compact keyboard
Style: 25 Keys Mini
It instantly interfaced with FL. Setup involved plugging in the USB. I haven't made use of all its features but I find it's use with FPC to be pretty cool. Only having 25 keys is no problem for me. Having so much capability while being compact is great. Only complaint is that the knobs aren't infinite turn but I haven't found the need to use them much yet. ... show more
