This folding transport chair works wonderfully; rolling easily and smoothly. The learning curve is not steep for this sturdy chair. While the chair has some weight to it, it is not difficult to load/unload, especially with the included handles. Yes, highly recommend this transport chair.

**** UPDATE **** Photo 11 has been added to show the chair folded in the rear of a mid sized vehicle. My original review of 2/23/2026 below remains unmodified. **** END OF UPDATE **** **** GENERAL **** This is my first purchase of a transport chair, so I don't have past experience to compare to another chair in real world use. The person who uses this Nova chair weighs about 130 pounds, 5 feet 1 inch tall. The width and height of this chair is sufficient for my use. I compared this Nova chair to another well known brand as of the date of this review cost less than half the price of this Nova chair. I decided to purchase this Nova chair because of better construction, usage features and above all better safety features. This chair rolls very smooth and my passenger has no problems with comfort. The larger real wheels are a plus. The design of the arms are great for sitting at a table or desk. The arms have a flip up feature if getting closer to a table is desired. This worked well for us at a restaurant, **** CONSTRUCTION **** There is minimal direct stress on plastic parts. Most direct stress is metal to metal. There is one exception I noticed is when this chair is unfolded the seat support bars snap into plastic “clamps” (photos 2 and 3). The stress is mainly downward from the passenger's weight and not horizontal. My chair is not used everyday so I may not have a problem any time soon. But, I wonder for frequent folding and unfolding how will these “clamps” hold up? For me I'll take this as a trade off. Note: I checked Nova's website and replacement parts are available. I am dinging one star for the wheel tread material. As with many transport chairs the treads are not rubber, but a synthetic material. For the selling price of this Nova chair the material should be rubber. But, then again I like the features of this chair so this is another trade off. **** SAFETY FEATURES **** My number one is the “anti tipper” wheels (photo 7 and 10) that will help to prevent the chair from falling backwards, especially on a wheelchair ramp. The foot rests, when the height is adjusted is held into place by adjustment “buttons” (photo 6). Once adjustments are complete there is a locking screw that can be tightened by hand (photo 6) After I tightened this screw the foot rest bar would not move even when I pressed the “buttons”. This chair has locking hand brakes. Also included is a second set of brakes brakes that can be locked by a lever at the wheel which is a standard feature on most wheel chairs, but not all less expensive transport chairs. My passenger can easily lock the wheels by using the levers. On the other hand I can use the hand brake to lock the wheels when pushing the chair. See photo 7. A great feature of the hand brakes is I can use it slow the chair when going down a ramp. This is better than using pure muscle to slow the chair. The foot rests have a strap (photo 6) that will help in preventing the foot from sliding off the back of the foot rest. This works well for us. Of course there is a seat belt which is standard on most chairs. **** HAND BRAKE ADJUSTMENT **** One of my hand brakes needed adjusting. The instructions and drawing in the user manual does not match my model 353 chair (photo 9). I called the Nova's U.S. based customer support number and was told this chair is newer and the manual would be updated later. I given adjustment instructions. As shown in my photo 8, loosen the small locking nut and turn the longer nut clockwise or counter clockwise depending if the brake needs to be closer of farther away from the wheel. When done retighen the locking nut against the longer nut. **** FOLDING THE CHAIR **** The chair seat has two hand straps (photos 4 and 5) to assist in folding the chair. For me I simply lift the chair using both straps and it folds almost completely. I then give the sides a push inwards. The back of the chair has an option to fold in half (photo 10). For me this enabled me to easily fit the folder chair into my vehicle. Folding the back may not be necessary for a large SUV. The foot rests can be easily removed if vehicle space is really tight. I was able to make the chair fit with the foot rests still attached. **** SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED **** The foot rests and anti-tippers need to be installed (photo 1). No tools are required. Note: the tools shown in my photo are not required for assembly, but can be used in the future to replace parts, tighten bolts, etc.

This is our second Nova transport chair. We were pleased with the first one, which was more expensive, and were looking for a second, less pricey one, to keep one in our car. When we called customer service to ask what the differences were, we were told there was essentially no difference, so we ordered. We have used this chair for just over a few weeks, and at first all was fine. It is slightly narrower than the first, which works well for maneuvering around our home. However, as our son continued to use it, we realized that the back wheels on this model are different, being more plastic than rubber. As a result, the back wheels slide on tile and wood surfaces even when the brakes are fully engaged, making for a less than safe situation when a patient sits a bit forcefully and the chair slides backwards. We called customer service to ask if there were any fixes, and though nice, they simply said to adjust the brakes. The brakes are fully engaged, and that is not the issue. No other advice was offered. So beware when ordering, and know what your needs are and how this will be used.

Had a different chair that collapsed more but the wheels were very small. These larger back wheels make for a nicer ride. This chair has break locks down by the wheels as well as rhe hands which was a necessity for me. Ive had trouble getting these hand breaks to lock and there is another version of this chair with different hand locks. The reversible arms are nice and needed for sitting at tables but sometimes do not lock well. The purple color gets lots of compliments.
