The unit itself is nice....I like the features etc but even when powered off, there's a slight humming sound. I have no idea where it's coming from so I unplug it whenever it's not in use. I hate to have to return it, but I am slightly concerned about where the sound is generating from and why🤔

The media could not be loaded. I won't beat around the bush. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I like this item. But the reason why I wasn't happy off the bat was because the actual LED flames don't look anything like the review provided by Marvin who reviewed this item and who also provided a video of his purchase. I'm not implying that Marvin did anything wrong. But after combing the internet I finally decided on this item based on Marvin's thorough video. In his video you can see that he has six options to change the colors of the flames from pure golden yellow to indigo blue. As you start off you go from one end of the spectrum to the next with varying degrees of colors and options. On my model I only have three. I have either all gold, all blue or the last option which is mostly gold with a few sparks of blue. Also, the flames don't look as bright or as attractive as they do in Marvin's video. I also noticed that his remote control (that he clearly shows in his video) is completely different. But I will say that my remote control does look like the one pictured in the item description. I also find that the number of plastic crystals seems barely sufficient to cover the bottom of my fireplace. I'm wondering if this has to do with mine being the 42" model and Marvin's is the 36" model. His video clearly shows his with more plastic ice crystals than mine. In fact, after hanging it on the wall about three feet from the floor I decided to lower it about seven inches because while seated near the fireplace it was too high to see any of the crystals. I am going to try and find a way to add more ice crystals. I cannot easily find a link to Northwest directly to inquire about this so I guess I'm on my own with this. After all is said and done this item is just over $300 after taxes. I believe this item is a bit overpriced for what it is. UPDATE DECEMBER 2015: Unfortunately this fireplace developed a really annoying noise that really bothered me. I had this in my bedroom and the clicking/grinding coming from the mechanism inside was getting out of hand. I provided an updated video combining two short videos. If you don't care to listen to my loquacious rant just skim toward the last thirty seconds to hear the noises getting out of hand. Not only was the clicking/hammering noise a real bother but I noticed a very high pitched ringing whenever the blue LED lights were operating. It sort of reminds me of tinnitus or when one's ears are "ringing." Be sure to turn up your volume. You should be able to hear it. I have acute hearing so it was becoming such a botheration for me, especially since it was right next to my bed. It was quite the imposition to wrap this up and have someone drive me to a UPS location to return this item. But I guess I should consider myself fortunate that I did get some help to return this very large item. I'm becoming more and more reluctant to spend my money on such poor quality Chinese garbage. These types of disappointments are worse than a waste of time. In fact, it's quite the draining experience and I will be reluctant to buy something of this scale in the future online. ... show more

Absolutely love this. Took me a minute to figure out how to get it up and running but it's great. It really Does NOT look like real fire but I still love it on the wall in my office. It's functional and beautiful no matter what. If you aren't too darn picky you will love it too. The colors are soft and calming and it doesn't make too much noise. Mine is 48" and puts out enough heat for my 14x14 office. I have to change it to just fan only after about an hour. Would be great for a bedroom. I was able to install it by myself but I don't advise that if you have never done anything like that before. I am a girl but I am a handy girl. ... show more

I purchased this fully expecting it to be a great heat source. Unfortunately, it is not. It has one small vent on the top. The vent forces heated air out the top, however, the air doesn't project out towards you as if you were standing at a fire. It goes straight up even though they've put a little but of a deflector piece there to try and make it project outward. The colors are great. The clear rocks provide a fun addition as well. It does well to create a good ambiance but I hoped for more of a fireplace feel with a better heat source.
