I got this ice maker because I was unable to run water to my fridge for its built-in ice maker. As a stand-in, this is a surprisingly efficient and productive unit. It takes a few minutes to get your first batch of cubes, and it will continue on to fill the hopper at a brisk pace. You can choose between "large" and "small" cubes, but the size difference is pretty negligible. A couple of things to keep in mind: the inside of the unit isn't insulated. If the unit is in a warm room, the cubes will start to melt as soon as they drop. Your best bet is to babysit the unit while it makes the ice, and to transfer it to the freezer as you go. I would also recommend that you dry out the unit when you're done. From full, it will leave about 1/8" of water at the bottom of the reservoir. I could see some unsightly mold forming if left to its own devices. I clean it with blend of vinegar and water and dry it well. ... show more

Love the concept, this is my second counter-top ice maker, but neither of them have lasted longer than a year, which means I'm paying $12 a month for ice... far more than I would for just buying a couple of bags at the grocery store. If I could find one that lasted several years, I'm in. Apparently, this one isn't it. Not even sure what's wrong with it, no leaks, ice making area is cold, water is flowing, I cleaned the ice full sensors. It just isn't making ice. UPDATE: I messaged NorthAir and they immediately responded with an offer to replace it free of charge. No shipping either. Within the week I had a brand new one -- and it's green! We're back in business. Fingers crossed this one lasts! ... show more

First of all, i use ICE, all day long! Mainly because i live in nevada and AZ...and its HOT in summer months! So, because i do live in an RV , my frig, is small and i can only fit 3 ice cube trays in the frig. I actually was told about this awesome ice cube maker by an RVer i met 6 months ago, so could not wait to get one too! I can make 2 cups of small ice cubes, in aprox. 15 mins. , depending on air temps in my RV. This ice maker holds 21/2 16 oz bottles of water, in the well area, so you dont have to fill it but about , once roughly, every 45 mins,,if you use the small cubes setting. It has 2 settings, one for small cubes, one for large cubes, and an indicator button, that lites up red when you need to fill up with more water. I LOVE this unit, and can recommend it for RVers, or anyone whom has limited freezer space in their frig. I will order more in the future,,for gifts this christmas,,and i love it comes in different colors.,, 5 stars here!! ... show more

My husband and I have discussed a large ice machine purchase since we do host a couple of large events each year and ice is always the thing we need more of, but just can't stomach the cost of one. A friend told me about these and I decided to give it a try, I'd return it if it was junk. It is NOT junk. It does make the first ice cubes in a matter of several minutes and those first cubes are a bit soft, but all of the ones after that are perfect. I do wish that the ice collection tray was larger, but it would necessitate a larger machine, hence trying to find a place to put it. This sat on my kitchen counter while I had a houseful on New Year's eve and bothered no one. Cons- Because the ice catch tray is much smaller than the water it holds, you need to be around to empty it when full. If it gets full, nothing happens, but as an energy saver, it stops running the freezing amount of coolant/compressor, so your ice can start to get watery and stick together when refrozen in your storage freezer. When I researched this item, the biggest complaint that I saw was people complaining about it being loud. That I guess is a matter of perspective... Do you hear the ice drop into the plastic tray sitting over a large container of water? Yes, but I hear my fridge ice maker dump if it's not full. Do you hear the compressor run while it's making ice? YES, I turned it off at bedtime, but as I said, a houseful of company and music playing, we didn't hear it. The reality is this~ Having one of these is the equivalent of having a freezer on your kitchen counter. If the noise bothers you, then you could set it on a porch, in a laundry room, garage, whatever works, but it is certainly quieter than my chest freezer. A freezer, as this is, has a compressor. When you're paying for the convenience of something roughly the size of an overgrown toaster that has a compressor, it's going to make noise. ... show more

I had the older model of this and it took some pretty heavy wear and had a stay in a non-climate controlled shed; the fans stopped working so I replaced it with the newer model as I was always very happy with it. This is essentially the same, but I’ve noticed the cubes (or “tubes” I guess) are thinner and smaller than the older model produced. Therefore they melt faster both in drinks and also in the ice basket so when you open the lid, there’s commonly some brittle remnants of cubes instead of nice intact ones like the old model would produce. It’s not a big deal, but if you have used the old model and want the thick large cubes, this will not give you the same results. ... show more

We love our new ice maker! It was so easy to set up and even easier to use. All you need to do is empty (when indicated) and fill (when indicated)! I live in an old farm house and have very little counter space, but that didn't stop me from buying this product. I placed it on a window sill with very little sun exposure, and it's so convenient for everyone. Having a family of five, where only one (me), would fill ice trays, this is great. I empty the filled bin into gallon bags in the freezer. With all the summer activities, I was constantly stopping at the local grocery or convenience store to buy bagged ice for the cooler. The cost is $3-5 depending on the bag size. Now I use ice cubes stock piled from the freezer. I am sure this ice maker has paid for itself already. I appreciate the opportunity to rate this product so others know how easy it is to use. ... show more
