Overall; they work great, I don’t use any of the smart features though. If you use them for an extended period of time one mechanical flaw of theirs will show up. Namely that they don’t appear to come with thread locker from the factory. In the included pictures I show how to fix this; Edit; the pictures aren’t in order anymore 🤦♂️ Step 1; as you can see (picture 1) when I opened the weight the center ring was completely loose, you can tell from the outside when you shake it (when in the 5lb setting) and you feel the plates move. Step 2; a 3/32 hex key fits perfectly into those 4 holes around the ring as can be seen in picture 3, the ring can be seen after it’s been partially removed in picture 3 and fully removed in 4. Observe the flanges on the ring and their orientation. Step 3; apply thread locker (I used 242 blue) to the ring threads, I put it all the way around to be sure. Step 4; put the ring back with the thread locker (side with the flanges upwards) and thread/tighten with the hex key (picture 7-9) until it cannot be tightened further. I wiped the excess thread locker off afterwards. Step 5; put the plate back on while tightening the screws in an X patter to keep flexing/misalignment down (picture 10). Really should come with thread locker from the factory and it gets a ding for that. But that is the only issue I’ve had. ... show more

    • There is a reason why it is dumb-bell. There is no reason to make it smart
The media could not be loaded. I had really high hopes for this dumbbell, I though I could simply shout "Alexa set weight to xx lbs" while doing bench press. My hopes were quickly dashed. I will review it in two parts. First part is when I have not downloaded app and connected the unit with app. For most part it was working fine. Yes it was slow to respond to knob rotation but still manageable, at this point the whole smart thing (knob, need to plug in etc) was a burden but dumbbells were functional. Second part, is when I downloaded app and upgraded firmware (not optional, it happens automatically), unit went completely useless, it will not respond to knob at all. Will respond to Alexa's directions once or twice and go rogue, restart and it will work few times and go rogue again. Gist is that if you want to use it as non-smart, purely dumb-bell go ahead, only issue I see is plugging in before workout and removing it afterwards every time, if you leave it plugged in it will burn the motors. These are beautiful and nice dumbbells, if there is a way to make them work manually I would have kept them. ... show more

    • Worked fabulously until iSelect setup
UPDATE: Change the rating from 1 start to 4 star because the device itself is really nice, as long as you keep it factory reset and DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE iSelect or iFIT. FEEDBACK TO NORDICTRACK: I have three points of feedback to Nordic track: 1. Include Factory reset instructions in your printed manual and your FAQ: Factory reset: Plug in the unit, press and hold the knob for about 10 seconds until it shows "8.8.", then rotate to "Fr" (Factory Reset) and press and hold until the display shows "--". That one bit of information would have saved me SO MUCH TIME! 2. Make firmware upgrade OPTIONAL in iSelect. Right now, regardless of the desires of the user, if you register your unit with iSelect it will download and install the latest firmware. A lot of people are happy with the unit the way it is and does not want to gamble with an upgrade. 3. REVERT CURRENT FIRMWARE, it BRICKS the unit The current firmware version is SO BAD. I'm a software professional and a hardware engineer, so please listen to me here. There is everything wrong with that version: * It disregards the safety stops at the end of the actuator. It will burn up the servo if you don't unplug it. (SERIOUS!) * It hangs frequently (one or two adjustments of weight, which isn't a lot because of the backwards display update, see next point) (Bricking) * It doesn't update the display as you turn the knob, you have to guess, and then later when the servo has moved, then the display updates. * It listens poorly to the knob. One notch may or may not change the setting. * It often just displays a mess of segments and not an arabic number, and then hangs. * It cannot keep a wifi connection to save its life. I have a 2.4 GHz dedicated network within 3 feet from the unit and I have not once had a successful alexa command even though it claimed to be paired. I don't need it, but I wanted to check it out. It connects and then drops out. Please let me know if you want more details. Happy to help. // Phil ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Do not set it up with the iselect app. As soon as you do it will update firmware and the new firmware has the following bugs: * weight cannot be set * will disregard extremity stops and may burn the motor or break the servo * will disblay garbage in the 2x7 segment display * will hang - only foxed by unplugging.
