  • This Scale Changed My Health and My Life
I have exercised regularly my entire 59 year life. I also maintained my age adjusted weight which I occasionally checked using a regular "old school" bathroom scale. When the mobile phone and health monitoring device era arrived I tried some of the tracking apps and other gizmos that are now on the market like a dime a dozen but never found one I really liked enough to buy or one that made me think about my health differently or motivated me beyond my natural inclination to exercise and eat right. But I was intrigued by the Body Cardio and decided to try it out and I was quite surprised how it convinced me that tracking my health statistics can actually change the way I exercise and impact my health for the better. Because the Body Cardio takes so many comparable readings at the same time I can now track new goals that have inspired me not only exercise differently but to eat in even healthier ways, This is primarily due to the unique measurement called Pulse Wave Velocity which gives me a measurement of how well blood flows through my body and is an important indicator of future health outcomes. When I discovered that all my other measurements like weight, body fat, body water, bone mass, muscle mass, heart rate were all well within the normal range for my age, but that my Pulse Wave Velocity was below normal, I started doing more research and learned that how my blood flows through my body is significantly effected by salt and alcohol intake which I never paid much attention to because all my usual vital signs and blood pressure were always within the range of normal. So I decided to cut back on the salt, have only one beer or glass of wine with dinner, not two, and increase the amount of cardio exercises I do to see what would happen? Within a week of this change in habit, I moved my Pulse Wave Velocity right into the normal range for my age. But there is more, because my other statistics improved significantly too including losing about 5 pounds I was carrying unnecessarily. Now I can’t wait to get on the scale every day to see how I am doing and I have become a true believer in health tracking particular the Pulse Wave Velocity measurement . I was so impressed with thus scale I bought a second one for my weekend home. ... show more

  • Keeps me accountable for my health
Overall the design is nice, I have the white version and I like it as it doesn't stick out (color wise) as much in my bathroom as I have light features in there. It is also very thin so it slide under cabinets nicely. It was fairly easy to set up and log into the app. The app is simple and pretty self explanatory. The reviews in the app store are very negative but I have not experienced any of the negative attributes claimed in the reviews on the app store. Negative: I don't like the step tracking. It isn't very accurate but I don't like tracking my steps on any phone app. Unless its on your body at all times it isn't accurate. Remembering to charge it can be annoying. Positive: As far as I can tell the weight and body composition is very accurate. This scale keeps me accountable for my weight and overall health much more than I thought it would. I need this type of knowledge to keep me in check. It is a bit pricey but ultimately, if you are considering buying it you are already justifying the price anyhow. I don't know a scale out there that is this technical for less. Overall, it's a decent product, especially if you want to track all of these measures for health. I give it 4 stars for now only because I haven't used it long enough (less than a month). ... show more

  • Easy to Set Up and Use, App UI no more complicated than other fitness apps
There were absolutely no problems with setting this or the mobile application up. It arrived with a 65% charged battery too. I used my iPad charger and the included cable to fully charge it within an hour (it probably took less time, I wasn't watching). If you're familiar with fitness apps, the Health Mate app User Interface and features are not going to pose any issues - it'll be quite familiar since the Nokia app follows established UI metaphors. I'm using My Fitness Pal, Strava, and Apple's Health app. When I first paired my iPhone to the scale (first attempt success, be patient, read the instructions), the scale was then connected to my wifi network and it downloaded an update and rebooted. This took about 10 minutes to complete. Setting up my online account was annoying though... why do I need to set up an account? The pulse wave only starts working when you've weighed yourself 5 times. After that you start receiving PWV readings you can save. I like that my iOS Health app is now more populated with additional information. It is providing me with a better body monitoring system than I was using. I used to weigh, measure and pinch, and this scale now provides the data I want in 30 seconds or less. I did quite a bit of research and comparison. I figured if I was going to spend $100 US on a scale that met my criteria, spending the extra for one with PWV was an easy decision to make - the alternative was to buy a $100 USD scale and then spend another $195 USD on a device that only does PWV. ... show more

  • Decent product but not worth the price tag
Quick summary: Decent product but not worth the price tag. Overall the design is nice, though possibly the black version may look sleeker than the white. It was fairly easy to set up and log into the app. Nothing too complicated. Two main issues with it: 1. It says it "recognizes" up to 8 people. What it really means is you can set up 8 profiles. If someone in your house wanted to just use it as a normal scale, it is going to add their "weigh in" to the default profile. So it doesn't recognize you when you step on, you have to assign the weigh in to someone. Not a huge deal, but not great if everyone in your house is not using the app. 2. There seem to be discrepancies in the numbers which make us question how accurate it is. We understand that percentages will vary depending on the day, but it seems odd that there would be an 8% jump between weigh ins. If there is a reason for this, it isn't readily available information. Overall, it's a decent product, especially if you want to track all of these measures for health, just seems you can get a similar product that works as well for way less. ... show more
