  • Sold my Komodo and got the ZR
Style: Body only
I actually sold my Komodo 6k and got this camera. I loved my Komodo but it wasn’t the easiest camera to run and gun with, the boot up time and black shade was always a pain to deal with not to mention taking off the Sdi cables before powering down. I am happy with my ZR as it’s easy to run and gun with, boot time is much faster than my Komodo. I don’t have the black shade and I have a big 4 inch in screen to monitor what I shoot, so I don’t really need an external monitor. What I really didn’t like with my Komodo it only shoots 6k at 40fps and that’s not slow enough for me cause I shoot music videos, often times I want to shoot the entire clip in slow motion to slow down and speed up a actually performance scene but that’s not possible at 40fps. The ZR I shoots 6k at 60fps which is great for me not to mention the amazing R3D Format, red log and amazing color science. The only problem I have with this camera I wish it had red stoplight monitoring and of course the file size for the 6k is high it takes up a lot of space. I hope in the future they will come with a firmware for medium to low quality format to record in camera. Overall very nice camera weight is amazing and the image quality is superior! Oh and let’s not forget 32 bit floating I am gonna be doing some short film in the future this will be very handy for whenever audio gets too loud or too low. ... show more

  • If only I owned it sooner lol
Style: Body only
As my first camera, I don’t think I could’ve asked for better. I shot a short film just before buying this camera and I wish I had it with me on the shoot. Autofocus is great. The menus are fast and snappy. The Camera feels light but is in no way cheap. The small body makes it super versatile and I can’t wait to use it for my next short! ... show more

  • Great user experience, easy and powerful
Style: Body only
My favorite camera so far. I've owned DJI Ronin 4D, Canon R5, R5C, Sony Fx3, other Sony cams, and even tried Panasonic and other brands. I must say that this is my favorite camera because it's easy to use, and easy to get the best footage.

  • This is the camera I’ve been waiting for.
Style: Body only
I’ve been shooting with Nikon cameras for more than 30 years. The ZR marks the first dedicated video/cinema camera, and the first Nikon-RED collaboration. It’s spectacular to see how much they managed to pack in such a small platform. Keeping that in mind, this is a wonderful camera, and I’m sure Nikon will keep making it better through firmware updates. Just make sure you have plenty of fast storage and memory cards because to get the most of this camera (6K R3D), the files will be very big. I also have the Z8, which is an excellent choice if you do a lot of hybrid (stills and video). If your goal is mainly high quality video, the ZR will not disappoint. ... show more

  • Amazon Shipped an Opened Box with missing Accessories
Style: Body only
Love the camera! Just wish Amazon would’ve shipped a brand new camera rather than an open box missing usb cable and warranty. The one star is for the level and lack of support I’ve received after trying to return it.

  • It’s a power house, waiting for its release.
Style: Body only
Loving mine! It’s quirky right now as an early adopter. But I’ve gotten a lot of amazing footage out of it already. The screen is massive and bright as well. Jump into this eco system, learn to expose, and you’re set.

  • The Future
Style: Body only
This camera is a BEAST! To start its a cinema camera with amazing quality for video, but it is also great for photos. Battery life is solid, all codecs produce great quality, and has yet to over heat.

  • Certain Nikon ZR cameras have manufacturing defects, BUYER BEWARE
Style: Body only
Was fun to own for 3 days. R3D RAW codec is awesome, image quality is solid but not quite up to par with my Red Komodo X but this is understandable. Ergonomically, the camera is good for traveling because of its size/portability. Unfortunately for me and Ironically, the same day mine arrived, a service advisory was issued by Nikon and the serial number linked to the camera I bought here on Amazon was affected. This advisory basically mentioned a manufacturing defect with certain Nikon ZR cameras amongst others that could render the device completely dead and unusable with no warning. Because of this, I decided to return it. I could have sent it in to Nikon free of charge for “repairs” but who wants to have to send in a camera that’s 3 days old and barely used, for repairs? Given there’s undoubtably still affected cameras in stock at Amazon warehouses, it’s very possible I’ll end up with another dud. With this, I’ve decided to hold off for now. I may purchase again at some point but it likely won’t be through Amazon. Buyer beware, this is a legitimate risk right now purchasing this camera and if yours is affected just like mine was then you have to deal with the headache of returning it or sending it to Nikon for several weeks for “repairs”. Unfortunate all around. 3 stars…camera is good but has its flaws and shortcomings and this being my first Nikon camera I’ve ever bought has been quite the letdown. ... show more
