  • Great Camera For The Aspiring Professional Photographer!
Color: Black Style: w/ 18-55mm Configuration: Base
I've had this camera for a little over a year and I can say hands down its one of the best cameras I have ever owned! I'm a self-employed videographer that recently entered the world of professional photography. Being on a small budget as an aspiring photographer, I find that this camera perfectly meets my needs, earning me some good quality photos and income without costing me a fortune. What's amazing is that I've bought this Nikon D5200 and using this for the first time, I must say it made a great first impression on me. PERFORMANCE: 5/5 Nikon D5200 features great image quality with 14MP and a great ISO. It has a pretty fast shutter speed and it is great to be able to switch between manual and automatic controls. Image quality: 4/5 Overall, good image depending on the lighting environment. Photo quality is great under a well-lit atmosphere using the built-in flash but I recommend using an external flash. Images aren’t quite Paparazzi-worthy but the photos this camera takes will blow you away, nonetheless. It’s a great camera for a first-time photographer looking to get their start as a professional. I’d recommend you use more than just the stock included OEM camera lens. I recommend zoom lenses and fish-eye lenses for this camera to create more eye-catching stunning photos. This camera is great for the beginner and intermediate, alike. But if you want to go bigger, do so. If you’re a full-blown professional, more than likely, you’ll buy a more expensive camera. The average price of this camera currently at the time of writing this review is $300. Professionals usually invest $900+ in their camera. But cost isn’t everything. Each photographer must carefully consider a camera not just because its high price but consider image quality and other functionality. BATTERY LIFE: 5/5 Battery life is impressive, to my standards. But as with anything, battery life always depends how much a device is used and what settings are used. Usually, I use this camera for weddings and receptions. I take an average of 300-500 photos per event day so using the camera from 1PM until about 11PM, I’m able to use this camera the entire event day without charging the factory OEM battery. (*Note: I usually do not use the flash for about 100 photos, as they are outdoor daylight photos. The rest of the photos are indoor photos.) WHAT'S NOT SO GREAT: Small minor issue but I wish that DSLRs like these featured internal memory storage, instead of just relying on only external SD cards. ... show more

  • Nice camera
Color: Black Style: w/ 18-55mm Configuration: Base
I'm not going to get into the stats of this camera. There are many other reviews and websites that already have this information available. The Nikon D5200 is a nice camera. It has a swivel screen which is useful for video or weird camera angles. It has a lot of nice features, one of my favorites being all the auto-focus points and the low noise at high ISOs. The stock lens is perfect for a beginner. You can learn on the kit lens and still have quality pictures. You will want to upgrade eventually though. I think this camera is great for people who want to actually learn photography. If you're just going to shoot in Auto mode all the time, get a nice point and shoot and save yourself a lot of money. If you're actually interested in learning how to manually control your camera, then get a DSLR. The D3000 series (D3300 is most recent at the time I wrote this) is another great series by Nikon with a few less features. Also a great starter DSLR. ... show more

  • Great camera for the price
Color: Black Style: Body Only Configuration: Base
This is simply a great camera. Low light is not a problem with this bit of kit, especially while using a F1.8 35mm prime. Even without a low f-stop, this camera performs very well in low light. Noise with ISO 1200 and below is almost non-existent except for black areas. Feature set is very nice and 4-5 frames a second is no problem. Video looks great, although there is just a bit of softness that can be cleaned up in post. The audio leaves a lot to be desired, especially when the source is at a distance. Somewhat be expected though. Neewer TT560 boot flash for about $30 is a great addition to this kit and definitely recommended. Articulating screen is great for tough shots, although there is about a 1/4 second delay with the shutter in the mode. Live mode and video will eat your battery though. Overall I am extremely happy with this camera. ... show more

  • Great camera
Color: Black Style: w/ 18-55mm Configuration: Base
I have used the heck out of this camera. I love the size, weight and functionality. I've been shooting with Nikons since the days of Nikormats. I really like the way this one feels in my hand when I'm shooting and it's a joy to use. I actually sold the first one of these I purchased and replaced it with the D7100. I didn't enjoy using it so I sold the D7100 and just purchased another D5200. I just got the new smaller 18-55mm lens and it really feels good with that one on. My favorite lens to pair it with is the fast 35mm, especially for portraits indoors with natural light. It's great with the 55-300 for wildlife, concerts and sports. ... show more
