A fast f/5.6 constant aperture gives your shots beautifully out-of-focus backgrounds across the entire zoom range. • Takes good photos
Takes good photos. As with any telephoto lens it is heavy and can be a challenge to use but much better than any I've had before. Probably not as good as more expensive lenses but this one I can afford (apx $1k) versus the others (apx $6K). Great for amateurs.

  • Sharp. Sharp. Sharp
This lens is sharp the build quality is Nikon of course. This is a heavy lens due to its constant aperture of f4. It has a zoom lock so the lens is easily carried without creeping. Remember you have to carry the lens not by the camera. Get a case to carry it. Strips or monopod is a great idea. It HEAVY. ... show more

  • Excellent lens, at less than full price
I was a bit leery of buying a "renewed" lens, but after multiple outings taking nature photos I'm glad I did. When the lens arrived, the original box looked funky but I didn't care about that -- it went into the recycling bin a while ago. The lens itself looked pristine, and meshes perfectly with my Nikon D5600. The lens is larger and heavier than I expected! I keep the tripod mount on at all times and use it as a carrying handle. If you use the tripod mount that way, be sure it's on tight. Before buying the lens, I wondered if the 200-500 zoom was enough to document fairly distant birds. Short answer, it is. Between the sharpness of this lens, the megapixels in my Nikon D5600, and shooting in RAW, I can crop fairly heavily to reach farther than the nominal maximum zoom of the lens. I've also had good luck in low-light situations. I'm really glad that I put my money into a higher-quality "renewed" lens, as opposed to a brand-new "kit" lens. A final bit of advice: keep the shade on the lens whenever you're using it. Not only does it shade the front of the lens, it protects the lens from accidental bumps and scrapes. With the shade on, I don't bother with the lens cap. ... show more

  • Incredible lens
This is an amazing lens, for what it is. It does not compare to a 500mm f4 lens, but it’s a fraction of the price and weight. There are times I wish I had that extra stop of light, but it’s a fair trade off. The lens is very sharp, and focus is really fast. I highly recommend it.

  • Great zoom and build but this thing is heavy
This is my first large telephoto lense. It adds a lot of weight to my camera. Still trying to get use to that. Good news is image quality and performance is amazing. Love it so much, it's worth toting around.

  • fast, crips, robust, great pictures
I’ve taken this lens all over the world and it continues to amaze me, super fast, great for birds, sports, racing. Anytime i am using this lens people stop me to ask me questions or i get awkward stares like I’m a spy or something lol

  • Seller didn’t mention item was defected
I bought this in January 2024, it worked fine for a month or so, then the zoom ring started getting stuck. Then I realized something was scraping the neck ring. I looked it up and apparently this is a common defect with this lens and there was a solution of removing the plastic ring, and tightening the little screws. So I did remove the plastic ring to realize one tiny screw is actually missing, and other was have been worn out. Now the lens completely stuck between 200-300 and I can’t turn it back to tighten the screws. ... show more
