I got one of these to try on a window, and I have mixed feelings. Keep in mind, I've never owned premium blinds, but I have used / felt some of them. For $55 for one window, I was expecting it to feel a little more premium. I get that it's not even that expensive for window blinds, but still, they're nice compared to the basic old school style I'm used to. It's just that they're not that much better. They do an awesome job at blacking out and they do work nice smooth. I don't know, maybe I'm just old. I don't think this should cost more than $20.

Okay, let me be honest. When this box showed up, I figured installing new blinds for my daughter's bedroom window was going to be my Saturday project...meaning half a day of swearing, multiple trips to the hardware store for different screws, and maybe a leftover bracket stuck to the wall forever. Boy, was I wrong. I got the 33"W x 72"H size in black. First impression out of the box was solid. The fabric feels thick and substantial, not cheap or flimsy. The included metal brackets, screws, and wall anchors looked like they could handle the job. Installation was a Breeze: I'm a 43-year-old guy who works in printing, not construction. The included instructions were clear, but honestly, the online video tutorial was the star. I had the brackets leveled, drilled, and mounted in about 15 minutes. Hanging the shade itself just clicks into place. My wife appreciated how clean and simple the final mounted look was with no clunky cords or chains ruining the view. My 16-year-old daughter is a runner and values her sleep. These shades deliver on the "100% Blackout" promise. Once they're down, her room is pitch black, even at high noon. It's perfect for when she wants to sleep in after a morning race. It also makes her bedroom feel like a proper cave for her weekend Netflix binges. The thermal backing seems legit, too; that room feels less drafty already. The Cordless, Free-Stop Spring System is Genius. This might be my favorite feature. The mechanism is smooth and quiet, and the valance gives it a finished look that hides the roller neatly. Measure Twice, Order Once! This is crucial. The size I received fit my specific window perfectly for an inside mount. The product page has a ton of size options, so double-check your measurements. There's no trimming or cutting these yourself. The Spring Tension: Out of the box, the retraction speed was a tad eager for my liking. It snapped up pretty quickly. However, the product info shows there's a simple adjustment key (looks like a little white plastic tool) to fine-tune the spring tension. A few turns and I had it retracting at a calm, dignified pace. It's a pro if you don't mind a 2-minute tweak, but something to be aware of. I was sent this to test, and I’m genuinely impressed. For a DIY-friendly, safety-conscious household like ours (with kids, dogs, and a need for peace), these Niche Blinds check all the boxes. They look sharp, block light completely, operate smoothly, and were shockingly easy to install. The minor need to adjust the spring tension is a small quibble for an otherwise fantastic product. Overall I really love these blackout shades- they keep out light. One thing to keep in mind when choosing the size is to install it over the front of your window, not inside of the window box (I hope that makes sense). You want the sides to overlap every edge of the window, which isn't going to happen if you think you'll install it on the inner side of the window. So you can guess what I did. It still fit pretty well and keeps my room dark even with a little crack of light on the side. Easy to install and easy to use. If I close them during the hottest part of the day I can feel that my room stays cooler, though then I don't get sunlight in my room, but it's good for when I'm not home.
