This review is for NICE-POWER NP610 Moisture Meter (ASIN: B09XTX8BLT). I ordered this because there are times when I am dealing with water in homes and need a way to measure what's wet and dry. This one is rated for 5-70% for wood. The tool seems sturdy and well made. It runs on 2 x AAA batteries, which are included. The battery cover is secured by a Phillips head screw. The meter is ergonomically shaped and easy to hold. It has a cover for the sharp probes at the top. The screen is backlit and easy to ready. I thought I could just turn this on and be ready to go, but that's not quote the case. You have to select the wood species before you test. You have to select the group number on the meter. This means you need to keep the owner's manual with you, since this is where the chart is. They should have printed the chart on the back of the meter. Once you select the wood species group the meter is easy to use, and I'm guessing it's accurate, since I don't have anything that's finite to verify it with. Overall, this is a good moisture mete, and it's a very good value for the price. I just wish it had the wood species chart written on the back or if it just had the names on the LCD display.

I tried this moisture meter on several different types of cut and split firewood including Tamarack, Douglas Fir, White Fir and Lodge Pole Pine using the suggested Mode settings. All the wood was cut green and had been split but had been seasoning for a couple of months. The moisture readings (when I could get them) were never over 10-11% moisture which were more likely in the 20-25% range. So the unit did not work for me.

Worked when I first turned it on. Then it would not read anything. I put in fresh batteries and it kept reading 0% no matter what I tried to test. And it didn't matter what setting I put it on. It really is useless.
