Building on the tried and true design of our NV Series trolling motors, the kayak Series features a height adjustable 24-Inch shaft for proper depth placement. Five forward speeds and three reverse speeds allow for a smooth and efficient ride, a 5 LED battery indicator ensures you know how much run time is left on your current Charge. The media could not be loaded. Perfect motor for my Coracle! Speed 5 with the 36 pound thrust as about as fast as I would want to go. I went out for a couple hours and the motor worked perfectly for my experimental boat. The battery indicator lights indicated a full charge after a couple hours of fun, but the battery is taking some hours to recharge, so I don't know if the lights are accurate. I'm going to try it on my canoe next. I think the 55 pound thrust would be even better, but probably would drain the battery more. But the 36 is definitely perfect for the Coracle. ... show more

Overall, it's a beast. I replaced my aging Watersnake 24 lbs with Newport Kayak series 36 lbs - it pulls amazing, I caught 10 stripers within 2.5 hours yesterday by trolling, turns out 5th speed is the one they love chasing lures at. Two issues - the battery indicator shows 100% charge even though I had 20%, per another tester for my LiFePo4 battery. That's the main issue. Second, the speed indicator is hard to see - I put the motor through the pedal drive hole, handle facing me, can't see speeds unless I stretch myself forward quite a bit. Will be placing waterproof labels around the handle. ... show more

I first purchased a Minn Kota Endura 50 and when it arrived the motor had a horrible grinding and popping noise. As stated on the packaging I called Minn kota rather than returning to Amazon for service. The nearest service center is about an hour away so I informed them I would rather simply return the faulty unit than drive an hour both ways twice to drop off and pick up. I then purchased this Newport 36 and when it arrived there was a huge hole in th box as if the whole motor was pulled through the box (thanks Amazon driver) however when I hooked it up to my battery it is whisper quiet. Another thing I noticed about the Minn Kota was that the transom mounting bolts on it were very sloppy where the Newport mounting bolts are tight and secure. Having examined both up close I would purchase the Newport over the Kota every time. Just my 2 cents. ... show more
