Well made, simple and priced right. I use mine in the Pacific off the coast of Costa Rica on a large fishing kayak. No problems whatsoever. Not sure why a spare propeller is so expensive though!! Regardless, I highly recommend.

Good motor for kayak. I like the short shaft. It also runs a long time on a 50ah LiFePO4 battery. My battery has its own charge indicator and Bluetooth capability so I don't have to use the motor's charge indicator. I ran it over 3 1/2 hours and when I got back to the launch ramp I had only used 25% of the charge! I was pretty impressed. I am using it on a 10 ft kayak with a side mount setup. I ran it mostly low speed, but some at higher speeds. I have two cons that I didn't deduct any stars for but still worth noting. The biggest one is at the lowest speed it goes a little fast for fishing. I wish low speed was only half as fast as it is. Not a huge deal but something to consider. Might be partly because my setup is pretty light weight and doesn't take much to push it. The other thing is that the motor is on the heavy side (I think about 20 lbs.). Not that it's a problem to handle, but on a side mount setup it sort of tilts the kayak a little so I try to shift my weight slightly to compensate. This is a minor issue but if that is how you plan to use it you should be aware of this. My battery is so light that it doesn't counterbalance the weight much if I favor it's weight on the opposite side of the cargo hole. Anyway, I'm really happy with it so far. ... show more

Pretty good motor! Put it on my lifetime kayak with a bit of modifications and it'll get me going 6-7 mph at top speed. The lowest setting will get me going around 2-3mph which is a little faster than I wanted and hard to troll with. Definitely heavier than some alternatives but a good motor nonetheless. Great little motor. I mounted on a universal kayak mount. I relocated the speed controller to a remote unit by extending the wiring, very simple. Very happy with it and get lits of looks and thumbs up at lake.

Lightweight and worked great on my 10ft kayak. Used for about 4 hours off and on during my last fishing trip and barely battery meter still indicated full, check battery with a meter and sure enough it barely used any power.

Perfect motor for my Coracle! Speed 5 with the 36 pound thrust as about as fast as I would want to go. I went out for a couple hours and the motor worked perfectly for my experimental boat. The battery indicator lights indicated a full charge after a couple hours of fun, but the battery is taking some hours to recharge, so I don't know if the lights are accurate. I'm going to try it on my canoe next. I think the 55 pound thrust would be even better, but probably would drain the battery more. But the 36 is definitely perfect for the Coracle. ... show more

I wanted to upgrade from my watersnake 24lb thrust to the Newport 36lb thrust because I wanted to get more speed out of my kayak for long distances..It was no faster, and actually a tad slower.. not enough pitch on the prop I’m assuming.. super difficult to try and get it to fit through peddle drive slot on a Bonafide ss10.7, plus it weighs 3x what the water snake does which makes it a real PITA. I expected to go from 4mph to 5, but actually only got 3.8mph out of it. Three bladed prop may help a little, but then it definitely won’t fit through any kayak hull. Returned it, probably going to try the watersnake 34lb thrust instead ... show more
