I am a NICU nurse and see everything that can go bad with a newborn. With my first u used the owlet, but now it no longer tracks oxygen and is more of a sleep monitor/sleep training aid. I bought the Nanit camera and their special swaddles and sleep bands because that’s how that system detects your babies breathing, but my baby hates their swaddles and the sleep bands only work with their arms up- so there goes that monitoring system. The Snuza hero was okay, but it has to clip onto the babies diaper and the alarm was too quiet. Finally I bought the babysense on sale- and we LOVE IT! it’s very accurate and the monitor is nice and loud when it goes off. I put a 3mm basswood board between our cribs metal bottom and the mattress so the babysense disc was on a firm surface. It’s so easy to turn on the monitor that I don’t have to worry about anyone else putting my baby to bed not being able to work it, you simply place baby in the crib and push on the monitor to turn it on. If I forget to turn it off when I take Ace out of his crib, it makes a few clicking sounds and then alarms. It’s been extremely accurate. I feel so much better knowing I have the babysense monitoring his breathing, and I love how easy it is to use without him having to wear anything. I spent hundreds of dollars on different monitors due to my paranoia of him randomly going apneic or something, but this monitor finally puts my mind at ease that I’ll be alerted if he does. ... show more

I read a few reviews that said that if the fan was on, it would mess with the performance… that is false for us. We live in AL and it’s hot here and we sleep with the ceiling fan on and it doesn’t affect it at all! (We tested it to make sure)… this product WORKS! We used to use the owlet sock but the wifi issue caused us to have to find something new and I’m SO thankful we found this! It gives us peace of mind at night and during our baby’s naps. The battery life has been fine for us! We are over a month in to using it for naps daily and its on all night and it’s still doing great! There’s been no false alarms and it goes off as it should when we forget to cut it off when taking her out of her crib. The price is fantastic also compared to other similar options on the market. The light is very dim and doesn’t affect her sleep.. and the sound it makes when it does go off is super loud so you’d definitely wake up to it if it went off for an emergency situation. You can’t beat it… and it 100% worth the money to be able to sleep with reassurance at night. We definitely recommend this! ... show more

We purchased this movement monitor and the Angelcare monitor when our baby started rolling over onto his belly at night to help quell or fear of SIDS. Now, every possible online source says that once baby starts rolling onto his stomach, risk if SIDS goes way down, and you do not need to reposition him on his back again (although you are still supposed to lay them on their backs when you put them down). Additionally, many, many sources say not to get movement monitors because they can't prevent SIDS. Maybe so, but after my son started rolling, I was a wreck. I was waking up every hour to check to see if he had rolled onto his stomach and if he was still breathing. This movement monitor has given me peace of mind and let me get back to sleep. we have been using it for over a week, and had one false alarm (presumably because the baby had moved to the very edge of the bed, and the monitor didn't pick up his movement there). The false alarm does not bother me at all--I'm happy to know that the unit is working and monitoring my baby. We were hoping to like the Angelcare movement monitor better (we had ordered the one without the sound monitor, and it was much cheaper than the BabySense monitor). However, the BabySense monitor won hands down. We found this model to be much more sensitive than the Angelcare model, and liked that it has two sensor pads. The pads are sensitive to environmental factors, so you really need to tune it when you are setting it up. Running the ceiling fan and AC impacted the level we needed to set. We also liked that the monitor is located right on the front of baby's crib. The Angelcare monitor has awkward cords that you need to run to a location at least 3 feet away from the crib. For us, tripping over cords and having yet more wires around to worry about was not a good option (the AngelCare units cords have solid plastic covers that snap together--a must to reduce risk of strangulation, but hard to know where to run them in the nursery). This BabySense unit has one button on the front that you push to turn on and off. It flashes a blue light when baby moves, and a red light when the alarm goes off. The alarm is loud, but not frighteningly loud. During our one false alarm, baby slept through. We can hear the alarm easily because the crib is in our bedroom right now. We should be able to hear it when the crib moves next door into the nursery, too. However, from other parts of the house, it would be more difficult to hear--especially at night if you were sleeping. If your baby's room is far from yours, you may need to pair this with a sound monitor to keep in your room. Overall, this was a good purchase for us. It gives my anxious brain a chance to rest, and was a clear winner over the AngelCare model. ... show more

I was hesitant to buy this at first due to how negative the bad reviews were. It seemed there wasn't a middle ground- either people loved it, or it was a total waste of money. I was concerned when I first put the batteries in because it didn't seem to want to turn on. After rearranging the batteries, it was still not turning on, but once I actually hooked the alarm to the sensor cables, it worked fine. So far, every time I have forgotten to turn it off when removing my child from the crib, it has alarmed at me which is reassuring. It is very easy to use and hook up. Another reason I was willing to give it a chance is because we also have the Babysense baby monitor with the cameras, and it has worked wonderfully with no problems at all for almost a year now. ... show more
