  • NOT for Saltwater
Style: Outboard Motor
As other reviewers have noted, while the description and the manufacturer’s feedback say this is good for saltwater, it simply isn’t. Not only is the hardware not stainless steel and will rust out, but the electronics are all exposed in the interior, and they WILL get saltwater on them regardless. (Funny how water tends to find its way to various places on a boat…) As shown in the photo on this review, the battery tester (which was a nice feature, while it lasted…) is just a bare board with exposed components (no potting or anything), and it both physically and electronically disintegrated. Even worse, I believe the circuit breakers (and particularly the 60A one for the motor supply) can start to fail due to even minor saltwater ingress, which starts to cause random power cut off that is essentially uncontrollable (the reset switch does nothing in this situation) and can leave you stranded. I myself had this happen while out on the water, and had to resort to just bypassing the box and connecting the motor directly to the battery terminals, keeping a sharp eye on potential prop fouls so I could act as a human circuit breaker to disconnect the Anderson connector I use for the battery hookup. Also, even before the box’s electrical components failed, I ended up momentarily stuck (again, solved by bypassing) at one point as a result, I later found, of many of the electrical connections inside the lid having come loose, likely due to vibration. While I ended up being able to fix that, this really shouldn’t be something that happens with a product that costs what this does. The bill of materials on this thing can’t be more than $20, and the least they could do would be to construct it so that the thing doesn’t start coming apart on the inside when it vibrates (again, funny how boats tend to shake a bit…). I’ll probably just strip this thing out, put a real marine grade 60A breaker to mount in the lid, and call it a day. I’ve actually gone through two of these before reaching this conclusion, so call it $150 spent on an injected molded plastic box… ... show more

Style: Outboard Motor
The box its self works well on my individual pontoon with trolling motor setup. Like many have already said, the lid fitmen is not very good. The lid sits loosely on the box and even with the strap tighten up as much as I can get, the lid still moves around.

  • Top Does Not Fit 100%
Style: Outboard Motor
I'm using a 12V Opitima (blue top) which is about the same measurements of a standard 12V deep cycle, or smaller. And due to the internal compartment of the top that hides the wires, causes it to stick up a bit. The strap it came with allows the entire case to be more secure, but not completely flush. The battery meter & external connections are sweet features. I wouldn't be using either two of the 12V accessory ports, and concerned of extra corrosive parts in the future, especially in a saltwater environment. Maybe have a couple different options, with or without ports... And I'm super glad the 3 huge stickers came off easily for a clean, black case. It also came with strap mounts & screws, not sure I need them but great to have in case I decide to. ... show more

  • It's done the job for me, so far
Style: Outboard Motor
I installed this battery box in my sailboat a month ago, along with a Minn Kota Endura C2 55 trolling motor. I have had no problem so far. Be aware that this is only the container--you need to buy the battery separately. The term "Power Center" is misleading and seems to have confused a number of people (myself almost included, before I did a little more online research). To avoid confusing the consumer, it should be called "Battery Box with built-in circuit breakers and charge indicator." The box conveniently contains a 60-amp circuit breaker (recommended for use with the trolling motor) and a battery charge indicator. It can hold a Group 24 or 27 size marine battery. The box also has a cigarette lighter-style plug-in jack for accessories, protected by a 15-amp breaker. Manual reset buttons for both breakers are conveniently positioned on the top of the box. The exterior terminals are well made with good-sized, rubberized wing nuts. This allows easy disconnection and re-attachment. I disconnect after each sail, to reduce the chances of accidental drain or vandalism. The wires for connecting to the battery inside the box are well-designed and easy to use. The battery charge indicator is badly positioned for my application. I place the battery box in the transom storage area of my O'Day Daysailer, where it fits snugly. However the battery charge indicator cannot be seen in this position. To read it, I have to maneuver the box out of the tight fitting spot, with twists and tilts. Perhaps locating it on one of the down-sloping panels of the lid would make it more visible for all applications. I agree with the reviewers who point out that the top closure could be improved. The lid is only held on by a strap with a plastic latching mechanism. To tighten it, you have to yank on the strap by hand, after latching it. I also agree that the box material could be stiffened. It does flex under the heavy load of a Group 24 or 27 battery. This has not been a problem for my application. I put it once into the transom storage area of my O'Day Daysailer, and have not had to move it. However, for someone who must remove the battery frequently, a stronger box would be a big plus. Some sort of adapter to hold the smaller Group 24 battery in place would also be useful. One of the reviewers reported corrosion of the wiring after only 10 months of use. That would be a reason to lower the review to 1 or 2 stars. I have only used it for 1-month in fresh water and have had no problems so far. Delivery took just a few days with Amazon Prime. It arrived before I was even ready to install it. ... show more

  • Good product, handy to have, worth buying, could be improved.
Style: Outboard Motor
I purchased this MinnKota Trolling Motor Power Center for use with my MinnKota trolling motor and my canoe. I received this product last week and I immediately set out to purchase the largest marine battery that would fit. I was pleased to find that although the product literature states it is made for series 24 and 27 marine batteries, the series 29 battery fit with about 1/2 inch of space all around. Before I got to use this product with my canoe, I experienced a two day power outage. The power center came in handy during the power outage and I was able to use it in conjunction with an inverter to keep my family's cell phones charged and to power our computers and wireless router. This made the two days pass easier. Some things to keep in mind: (1) Don't attempt to lift the power center by the top handle with a battery installed. My series 29 battery weighs 60 pounds and the strap and top handle simply won't handle this weight. You will lose your foot when the battery falls on it. Use two hands to hold the power center by the two side handles on each end. (2) When lifting by the side handles, a pair of gloves will prevent the sharp edges of the plastic from digging into your hands and causing injury. (3) This box would be better if it was made out of heavier, tougher plastic and better yet if made out of aluminum. (4) Use a ratchet strap in place of the provided cinch strap. The ratchet strap won't work loose, but even so, still don't lift the battery box by the top handle with a battery installed. See point (1). (5) It is nice to be able to charge the battery without removing the lid of the power center. (6) Built-in circuit breakers for trolling motor and accessories make this a good value although it is still pricey. (7) The power center is designed to prevent accidental shock by providing insulated wingnuts on the battery terminals. This is a good design and it could save your life. If used as intended, this power center makes a very handy trolling motor battery box for a small boat. It is also now part of my emergency preparedness equipment kit since it functions nicely as an emergency power center during a power outage. I will update this review if I experience any product defects after further use. If you're on the fence and wondering if this power center is worth the money, I think it is. Go ahead and buy it as I am getting my money's worth. ... show more

  • Outstanding Price and Quality for What's Included. Fits my 29 Battery too!
Style: Outboard Motor
This is an excellent product for the price point. If one were to buy all the components separately this product would cost nearly double the price. I paid $56 dollars for this product. The circuit breaker and power level gauge alone cost about that price. Throw in a rather sturdy case and two dc outlets with circuit breaker make this product an easy buy. Oh, and the outside post terminals are extremely convenient Pro's: 1.Battery can be charged from the outside post. Thus you never have to open the top of the case. 2. Power gauge/meter is a great feature. 3.The 2 DC outlets work great. Before I bought this power center I connected a DC outlet to my battery and it fried my charger. No issues with this thus far. 4. Case is rather sturdy and built of decent quality. Con's: 1. Battery gauge/meter only works accurately if the motor has been off for 60 seconds. This is written on the box itself. Not a big deal but it would be nice if you could test the battery while the motor is running. 2. As some have commented I wish the top snapped onto the bottom of the box. The strap is what is used to connect the bottom and top box together. It doesn't feel secure so I just grab the box by the bottom of the box. Not a big deal. Overall, this product is excellent. The con's are me just nit picking and for the price this is a no brainer. I did several hours of researching this type of product and buying the componets seperately. This is the best product that I could find that has everything you need and is the best overall value I could find. Hope that helps. Battery Info: For those individuals who where wondering about 27 batteries and bigger fitting into this product. This Minn Kota Power Center fits my EverStart 29DC Marine Battery from Wal-Mart. However, it is a tight fit and this case would not hold anything much bigger. Many have commented that this only fits 27 batteries or smaller but this is not true. Wal-Mart lists the dimensions of my 29DC battery at 13 inches x 6.75 X 10 (L x W x H). I am not recommending getting a 29 size battery and Minn Kota only rates this to fit 27 or smaller sized batteries but this product is excellent considering the price point. Closing the top on the 29DC battery takes a little caress but this is not an issue since you never really have to take off the top cover since you can charge the battery from the outside posts. ... show more

Style: Outboard Motor
Decent battery box, the only real short coming is the strap is not strong enough to use the top handle once a battery is in the box. It slips and requires the box to be carried by the bottom section with two hands.

  • Easy and simple for a newbie.
Style: Outboard Motor
First I want to specifically mention that I am new to using trolling motors, rafts, fishing, and anything else that goes with such activities. I'm a middle aged divorved woman who always left these things up to my ex husband to handle (my fault I should have taken more interest in such things) So my review is from the viewpoint of a total newbie who knew nothing of boating. With that being said, this power center is PERFECT for me!! Very easy to use and understand. I bought this along with my Minn Kota Endura C2 trolling motor and deep cycle battery for use on my intex excusion 5 man raft. Things I learned on my first day out: If you put the lead wires on wrong your motor runs backwards (my mistake - the box is very clear as to what is negative and positive- I caught that really fast and fixed it in a snap as the wingnuts make it very easy to disconnect and reconnect the wires. If I had to do that on the battery itself it would have been a pain. Regarding Carryinng and the Handle. Do not use the top handle once you install the battery, it's heavy use the two SIDE handles (on bottom half of the box) as they were designed to do this. The top handle is for carrying when it's empty or to lift off the top. On my first trip out we were caught in a heavy downpour and this box worked wonderfully to keep the battery bone dry. Out on the water, I noticed that checking the battery charge indicator was a little difficult to read in the sun. Also because I'm a noob I didn't realize that checking the battery while the motor was running wasn't accurate... my battery is smaller so I was concernened. I can't really say if it's accurate or not as I have nothing to compare too nor do I fully understand all that yet (I'm learning) Finally, when o got home charging was a breeze being able to hook up the charging cables to the box. Overall. For a beginner like myself who had no idea how useful this box would be I have to say i was very thankful I bought it. I haven't used the accessory ports and I'm still not sure about the breakers but I'm sure when or if the are needed I will be greatful to have them. After one day I'm a huge Minn Kota fan. I'll be sure to update my review later once I'm a bit more seasoned :). ... show more

  • Really nice. Versatile.
Style: Outboard Motor
I bought this for my open-bow Lund Alaskan S-18 to power the bow-mounted trolling motor. There are similar products in various locations online but none of them is designed for the 27-31 battery size. . .even though they say they are. So, be careful ordering similar products online. That said, battery sizes 27-31 will definitely fit this box. In fact, the 27 needs a little padding on three sides to keep it from moving around (half-inch Styrofoam or similar). The box is pre-wired with #6 leads with terminals to accommodate threaded battery posts with wing nuts. The female 12v receptacles that you see on either end are wired behind a panel on the lid which is offset so as not to interfere with your battery terminal connectivity, (a downfall of similar online products). The real beauty of this pre-wired box are the circuit breakers: no need to fiddle with in-line fuses between your trolling motor and the battery - it's all taken care in those breakers. Literally, all you gotta' do is insert your battery, connect the terminals, close and latch the lid and connect your trolling motor wires to the external terminals. Another pleasant surprise was the strap buckle. I was thinking it'd be one of those goofy buckles that almost nobody knows how to thread or tighten and always ends up slipping - those things remain a mystery to me. This one has a male/female adjustable clasp like a law enforcement duty belt. It does not slip: take it apart by squeezing the sides of the male end, adjust it and plug it back into the female end.. The one complaint I might have about this box is the quality and thickness of the plastic. It does feel week when you're carrying a 50# battery around in it. And I don't doubt that the plastic would fatigue if left in the sun for a few years. On the other hand, no one that I know looks forward to carrying 50# batteries and when they do it's a two-hand affair: the side grips/handles on this work great. Anyway, this thing will likely spend most of its life in the boat being moved short distances. This is the best deep cycle battery box I've seen. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • don't like the look all black and the bottom of the ...
Style: Outboard Motor
This is my first battery case i ever own. I was looking for battery case that fit my brand new 51R car battery that just been sitting around my house in case of emergency. Although, it doesn't fit well. i had to purchase things from Home Depot to make it fit just right. Also, if i decide to add things in the box, i can put accessories on the go with slots divider. I figured, i put it use for Bowfishing with my 12v led lighting. I honestly, don't like the look all black and the bottom of the case part look too cheap plastic that will crack very easy and break (drop one star). So, i decided to do some custom work on it. I purchased Plastic dip black for the bottom part of the case inside and outside. As for the top cover part, the battery TEST doesn't work and looks as the Red wire, that connected circuit breaker from the inside snapped off. I was going replace it, but I already got started paint for the bottom case. I should of test first, before painting it. Now, i couldn't replace it. Lesson learn...sigh I would of drop another star since the TEST doesn't work and the circuit breaker wire snapped, but Amazon customer service issued some credit back to my account for the inconvenience for non-returnable item. Anyways, i got started painting the top cover with another plastic dip in Blue color. I ended up soldered circuit breaker to the white connector back on. I think it work, but didn't know if it work or not. WARNING: Please keep the this battery case inside your house after every use, because it will rust from the inside, because the cover have vents, water and humidity. Over all, it is great battery case. I wish this product offer more colors and better plastic with rubber feel. Here are some of the images with my custom work and see the inside of my set up. • Melted plastic and burning life jacket :-(
Style: Outboard Motor
I've owned this for a few years, but only recently started using at high amp draw for my C2 50 Endura trolling motor. Yesterday I was using it and smelled something burning. The negative terminal had gotten so hot that it melted the plastic coating on the wingnut, was melting and deforming the battery box near the post, and was burning a hole through a life jacket that was thrown on top of the battery box. Took it apart (2 screws from the outside top), and sure enough, the internal electrical connections were super loose. I took them all apart cleaned off all the carbon/oxidation, and re-assembled with stainless steel lock washers added to keep them snug. The battery box looks pretty ugly now, but is still usable. I still give it 4 stars because I am not aware of a better option, and as long as you know to take this apart as soon as you get it and fix it, it is a nice unit. But I agree with other reviewers that this should not be necessary. Poor design and fabrication. ... show more

  • The box works well, once you rebuild the connectors inside.
Style: Outboard Motor
The box is excellent design and works very well, once I had to open it up and reattach the positive and negative cables inside. The box has an outer red and a black lead for attaching device to the battery system. The problem was the bolts inside the box were not well attached and were loose. Removing the covering device from the outer lead caused the two nuts on each lead to come off inside the box. There are several washers on each as well holding the inner cables that run from the battery. It should be a simple task to restore the nuts and washers and cable to those outer leads. It is NOT at all as there is an inner plastic covering to protect the connections. The plastic is very rigid and it is difficult to get the cable, washers, and two nuts tightened. It took about an hour wrestling with this simple task and regular ratchet and other tools were useless. The space is very constrained. A box end wrench would have been useful perhaps. I got it all reassembled, installed the battery, charged the battery and it works great. The two external attaching ports for plugging in devices like phones or whatever work well. The only other criticism is the handle and the band they use to hold the top and bottom of the casing together. With a 52 pound battery, the fabric band will not tighten enough to really hold top and bottom together well. When you lift the encased battery by the handle, the band stretched a little and it is a bit shakey. Makes one wonder it the band may come off while carrying and the whole thing come apart. They need a better solution for the two parts of the case coming together. But, it works well, I will keep it and use it. But, I have had a Minn Kota tilt trolling motor for 25 years that is a good as new. I expected a bit better in the craftsmanship of this ... show more
