The engine I received DOES NOT fit a John Deere gator. The exhaust manifold is different, as pictured. I have an 835m, but that doesn’t really matter. All the 835s and 825s share a common block, per deeres parts lookup.

    • Better than expected
Vine reviews John Deere engine*, I bought this engine to replace the tired one in my ranch John Deere 825i after it started burning oil bad last spring. Swapping it out took most of a Saturday but the mounting points lined up perfect and the wiring harness plugged right in without any cutting. Still running smooth even with a couple hundred hours on it now. Fuel economy seems a little better especially when hauling feed across the pasture. The only real headaches was the exhaust manifold didnt match the stock setup so I had to fab up a short adapter pipe to mate it to the existing muffler. Also the oil pickup tube was different length which meant pulling the old pan to swap it over otherwise it would have sucked air. Once those were sorted though its been reliable and pulls strong. Overall it’s held up well for the price and does what I need it to on the property. ... show more
