  • Eye Sockets are deep enough for elderly eyes with cataract surgery
I can hold these binocs up to my eyes and it is very comfortable to have the cups around my eyes. I can see well with these binocs. I used them for the symphony concerts, which are indoors. I bought a different brand and it turned out to have very shallow eye sockets so I could not hold it to my head and see through the eye sockets. This pair worked very well with elderly eyes, and the eyes do not touch the lens because the eye sockets are deep enough. I had no idea that the eye sockets could be a problem. ... show more

  • Nice set of inexpensive binoculars
They are compact light and easy to use. They are inexpensive, though a more sturdy lanyard would be on my wish list.

  • Not sure advertisement pics are accurate.
I’m not sure the pictures in the thumbnails for the item are accurate. It says seeing a bird and boat at 500 and 1000 yards. I’m not sure about that but it definitely allows me to see deer at 500 yards. I’m not sure what 1000 yards would look like. It’s small and easy to use. Definitely worth the price. ... show more

  • Compared with updated model.
First of all my primary use for these binoculars are for theater glasses. I purchased both these and the updated version for $10 more as I couldn't see the differences on the listings. The older version is smaller (shorter and narrower and lighter than the updated version, however both fit into a shirt pocket. Older version a little more comfortably. Both come with a case and cleaning cloth. Updated version comes with lens caps, but difficult to put on but not impossible. Both sets have the same magnification 8x21. The updated version is able to capture more light so the image appears clearer with slightly more detail, but the older version is still very good. This light capture is the main difference I saw in comparing the two. In one sense I thought it worth the $10 extra for theater applications, but on the flip side that $10 is 60% more which I don't feel the updated version is 60% better. I ended up going with the updated version. ... show more

  • Excellent Value at $12.99
I bought these as a potential gift for a 5-8 year old child. I wanted to compare it to the more specialized kidz binoculars that cost around $20. Getting the right interpupil distance for children is tricky, and this double hinge compact design covers a broad range. In the past, I have used the Bushnell H2O 8x25 waterproof compact binocular with kids. It is quite sturdy and with larger 25mm objectives, it is a little brighter and easier to look through. It also costs more like $50. These binoculars are quite small but work well. The diopter adjustment on the right eyepiece is very stiff so adjustment is a little fidgety, but that is not all bad; once you adjust, it you want it to stay there. The eyecups are not adjustable, except that you can fold them down if the user wears glasses. This makes eye placement a little less intuitive. In this price range I would expect significant variation from sample to sample, but the sample I have comes to sharp focus in both barrels, and the collimation between the barrels is decent, though not perfect. The focuser is smooth and easy to turn (important for children). Unfortunately, the close focus is around 15 feet, which is a bit further than I would like, but typical for this design, and there is excess focus travel beyond infinity focus. The field of view is again decent but not great, I would estimate ~50 degree apparent field of view. I see no serious internal reflection or vignetting beyond what you'd expect for non-phase corrected BAK7 roof prism binoculars. The exit pupil is more like 2.5mm rather than the advertised 5.2mm, but I assume that is a typo from the description of a larger binocular. Theoretically an 8x21 binocular should have a 2.625 mm exit pupil All of these critiques are minor quibbles at this price point for an 8x21 binocular. This little binocular is performing way above its price point. ... show more
