I am very excited about our new Birdfy Bamboo Feeder. We have had an older Birdfy feeder for about a year and have enjoyed watching the local birds come and enjoy it, while being able to get the different birds identified within the app. My daughter particularly loves when they do something silly and loves scrolling and looking for fun videos. The bamboo feeder is big, sturdy and much better looking. I like the fact that it has 2 separate seed bins, if you want to separate your seeds. There seems to be a lot more room for seeds and thus far, the video quality seems great. I am also excited to have solar for this feeder. The old one would run out of battery and just sit idle for weeks before I noticed it. And where I placed it, it wasn't easy to run a power cable to recharge it. Maybe there was a way to get a warning notification in the app, but I never found it (nor did I look very hard). But with solar, this should no longer be a problem. A few minor negatives to be aware of - since this is so big, it's also a bit heavier than the old one, and thus requires a bit more planning for mounting it. It comes with lots of mounting equipment, so that's great. But the obvious place for me to mount it was right on a squirrel super-highway, and they had a field day last time I did that. So I had to be a bit more creative this time. I had a few problems getting it set up initially, but once I allowed the app to access my location, it went smoothly. The updated app is more intuitive than before. But be aware that this will only work on 2.4GHz wifi networks. I noted that other reviews mention the quality and how it seems to fall apart once exposed to the elements. I am surprised about that, as it feels like good materials and seems to be already stained to reduce weathering. I will monitor that and update this if it seems to be a problem.

This product is a solid step up from the original NetVue Birdfy Lite! Amazing materials and well crafted. It was very simple and easy to put together. I would advise that one has a solid spot to place the feeder, as it is bulkier and heavier than the Birdfy Lite and requires a solid foundation for its placement. The feeder allows for two different types of seed to be put in separate areas and keeps it safe from the rain and other elements. The perches are larger which allows for some of the medium to large birds to be able to perch on the feeder which is nice in allowing for a larger diversity of species to show up. You don't have to worry about batteries or plugging in the product because it comes with a solar panel that has always kept my feeders at a 100% charge. The video quality is really nice and the motion detects every time a bird comes to the feeder. It's awesome that the app allows for downloading of the videos that it captures very easily. Even when it rains and rain gets onto the camera lens it washes off on its own without human intervention! The AI has come a long way since I first got the Birdfy Lite, and now the app is very useful for helping identify the birds that come to the feeder. It is not always 100% correct in the IDs (not even Merlin bird ID gets them 100% correct because of angles of the photos taken and multiple species looking similar from similar angles) but a large majority of the time it is getting the bird correct, which is a solid job and I've seen continual progress overtime so it is heading to even higher levels of excellence. Overall an amazing product with continual upgrades and enhancements.

The media could not be loaded. Overall, I think this feeder is terrific. I love the look. Sleek, natural, and attractive I just hope that it weathers well. Time will tell. The two separate seed bins are a nice touch and it holds much more than I would have expected. I also like the side-opening lid. Makes access easier than earlier models. The camera is well-protected and gets nice sharp photos and you can zoom it if you wish to avoid the fish-eye effect created by it being recessed for the sake of protecting the camera. It has only been up a day or two. So far, my cardinals haven’t discovered it but the cowbirds are going nuts for it. The doves wanted to check it out as well and today a squirrel had his turn and a sparrow as well. It is fun to watch the birds up close and personal through the camera and I think that the notification are a plus though if there is a lot of traffic at the feeder they can get to be too much. Also very happy with the solar charging. I’ve got an earlier model of the bird fly feeders as well and that has stayed fully charged for ages with the solar panel. I would note, though, that I wrapped the cord for the solar panel in a split sleeve protector (Alex Tech available on Amazon) because I had squirrels chew through the cable on a earlier solar panel. .The only reason I gave it a four is that when it came out of box the black veneer on the side panel was peeling away (see picture). It was an easy fix with a bit of wood glue but it does have me wondering about the durability of the materials (though the quality of the construction seems good and it feels very solid. Instructions could have been a bit better too, especially regarding the solar panel mounting.

Day 1 of setting up my second Birdfy feeder. Overall impression is that the quality is better than the plastic Birdfy, but we will see how it weathers. There are instructions that mention it can be sealed or to expect it to need to be cleaned every 3-6 months, I’ve decided to do the weathered look and see how that turns out. I am a little concerned about it balancing on the pole I have, because it is heavier than the plastic versions. Set-up is just as good as it was with my first feeder with easy to follow instructions and prompts in the app. I will update this review after a couple days & rainstorms pass.
