  • Very Easy To Install and Enable
Decided to replace the Xfinity rented modem with one of our own. I read a lot of reviews and this is the one that I decided on. It literally took 3 minutes for the Xfinity Rep. to enable the modem. You simply unplug the Xfinity modem, remove the cable and (if you have a seperate wifi router) you unplug the ethernet cable and that is that. You then plug in the Netgear modem, attach the Xfinity and ethernet cables and you are off to the races. You only have to call Xfinity and give them the serial and MAC address numbers of the Netgear modem that is that. The wifi signal is stronger and we are having absolutely no issues of any kind. The modem is also less than half the size of the Xfinity modem, making it easier to tuck away and out of sight. The best I can say is that it simply works.... which is what you need it to do. And, yes, we are getting over 300 kbs in the house with little fluctuation. ... show more

  • Had it for about 2 weeks no issues...BUT Had it for about 2 weeks no issues...BUT
UPDATE 08/23/2019 - I got this modem because I wanted to upgrade my internet and just have my own modem. Well it seems that, according to the Spectrum tech, it wasn't compatible with the speed that I was getting (400/20). While I have my suspicions about that, they don't charge me for the modem anyway (at least here in LA), so I opted to go with their modem and return this one. It didn't really give me any issues but that doesn't account for its longevity. If you want peace of mind from the PUMA 6 chipset, go with something else, but in my short experience, I had no issues with it. Got it installed today, had a wee bit of trouble activating it, but was Spectrum's fault. Once it was activated, it ran as expected. I pay for 100/12. I get 118.46/11.80. About one megabit faster than my usual of 117Mbps up I heard about the PUMA 6 debacle and how much it can cause a lot of latency. My modem happens to be a hardware version 2.0. not sure if that means that it's not Puma 6, but I ran the online test (Google Puma 6 Test) and it seemed to be well within nominal ranges. So I might have lucked out and got a version that doesn't have the PUMA 6 chipset. So, you may be rolling the dice here, since others report that they indeed received a unit that does use the PUMA 6 chipset. If you want to be sure, go to the test page and check, return it if it's mostly red. Check my screenshot for reference. I'll update as time goes on. ... show more

  • This Cable Modem is a Winner This Cable Modem is a Winner
I bought this cable modem after some study and evaluation of popular cable modems for sale. I decided to buy it because I don't like the preset configuration of the Spectrum cable modem that comes with the Spectrum subscription. I prefer one that is not pre-configured and I'm glad I bought my own cable modem now that I have it. I went to the Spectrum website to find pre-approved modem models that are compatible with Spectrum equipment (you can do this with any cable company). I found that there are a lot of modems that are compatible, and I selected one based on the speed of my account and the price. I run about 300 MB/s speed, so I selected the Netgear Cable Modem model CM700 because it's rated for at least 400 MB/s and the price was very reasonable when compared to the competition. I was pleased with the CM700 right out of the box. It's much smaller than most other cable modems, and like most, it's mindlessly easy to hook up. It has a power plug that goes to a 110 volt AC outlet, a cable plug that goes to the cable outlet on the wall, and an ethernet plug that can plug into a PC, or a router/wireless router, or even into a network switch (gigabit switch). Once I took the CM700 out of the box, I looked at the quick-start guide, and I had the CM700 set up and running in less than a minute. I tested it, and it gives great speed too. The CM700 plugs into my wireless router (the uplink plug). It feeds the wireless router and a PC that is wired directly to one of the wireless router ethernet output plugs. The wireless speed I get from this set up is excellent, and the direct-connect speeds I get exceed my expectations. Look at the pictures, and you'll see from the quick-start guide how easy the CM700 sets up. The only criticism I have of the CM700 is that it seems to run warm, but then again, it has no malfunctions whatsoever. Also, I'm guessing that it has a great internal heat-sink, and I see that it has lots of holes for air ventilation, so that keeps it within the operating temperature range. Overall, I rate the CM700 a 5 star unit, based on both performance and price. ... show more

  • I think this is a good product, but...
This review is specifically on a REFURBISHED Netgear CM700 modem. I post my process in case it might help just one person in the future because I know it is easy to get frustrated with tech when it doesn't work. Long story short, after several hours on the phone with tech support from Spectrum, we concluded that the ethernet port was faulty. Long story, long, I thought I would save a bit by buying a refurbished model. Amazon typically does a great job at certifying refurbished equipment, and I've bought several things as "very good" or "like new" before with no issues. This, however, did not end well. Physically, the modem looked fabulous. It is also almost fool-proof to set up. There are 3 ports on the back of it: one for a power cord, one for a cable and one for an ethernet cable. I'm pretty savvy on tech set ups, and this was straightforward. I unplugged my router. Unplugged my Spectrum modem and removed the cabling from the back. Replaced the ethernet cable with a new one (included in the package from Amazon, thanks). Screwed on the cable to the back of this modem. Plugged in the power cable. The unit powered up fine and went through its start up phase. There are 5 lights on the front of the modem; power indicator, download confirmation, upload confirmation, connected to the internet, and ethernet connection. All 5 lights need to be green to operate completely. I got to 4 of 5 lit and figured now was when I needed to turn on my router. I plugged my router back in and it went through its start up phase. At no time did the ethernet symbol turn green. No internet. Spent a couple of hours on the phone with Spectrum (my internet provider) billing and tech support. They had to add the modem to the account so I gave them the MAC address, printed on the bottom of the modem. The tech guy pulled up the user manual on both the Netgear modem and my Linksys router to help troubleshoot. After changing out the ethernet cable to the one I knew worked before, plugging it directly int my laptop, with no change, several resets and restarts, we concluded that the ethernet port on the modem was physically faulty - most likely the reason it was returned to Amazon in the first place. Amazon was great about the return. I will continue to purchase refurbished items in the future, but in this case I have ordered a brand new one. I expect it should be straightforward and connection should be simple. Fingers are crossed. UPDATED: I purchased a new one and it arrived the next day. Sure enough, it was easy-peezy. The Ethernet port light operated like the other 4 lights and connected almost instantly. Yay! ... show more

  • Easy, seems reliable, potentially long set-up time
Reminder: it's just a modem. If you want Wi-Fi, you'll have to get a wireless router (and make sure it can handle the capacity of the modem or there's no point in having a relatively high-capacity modem). This was very easy to set up. It took a little while to get everything up and running, but that was because I had to call my ISP (RCN) and have them validate or recognize the modem before I could use it. That was time-consuming, but I can't dox this product for that. The modem is very small and kind of cute in a Darth Vader sort of way. The signal seems very good and reliable. A few notes on setup: the instructions assume you do not have an ISP already, so the first bit of instructions are about getting one. It's a little odd. Depending on the phone response time of your ISP, which, let's face it, is rarely very quickly, you might want to get on the phone with them before you start setting up the modem. That way, you can spend the time waiting for tech support physically setting up the modem and connecting it to your cable, getting the power supply how you want it, getting the ethernet cable plugged into your computer, etc. They recommend plugging the ethernet cable into your computer before you plug it into your Wi-Fi router. I have to agree, but you can still get everything ready to go once your ISP validates the new modem. Note: you may think this whole process will not take very long, but remember, if this is replacing something, you will also have to reset any device that you have linked to a previous router and wi-fi system. One suggestion I read said to change the name and password of the new system to be the same as the old system so that, for example, your smart items (plugs or whatever) will just transfer over. But that didn't work. I had to reconnect all of my smart items and redo all of my Wi-Fi connections on my phones and tablets and laptops. It took time. ... show more

  • Excellent product and at a great price point!!!
Seems extremely fast, and was at a good price point! We will be able to continue to use this product as we upgrade our speed from Comcast! My advice to anyone installing cable modem, get the fastest, very best one you can afford. 32 channels down and 8 up means NO latency! A speed test shows we are getting 96% of the available bandwidth, which, is about the best you can, there is always "overhead" from the data packet itself that comes along for the ride. We were broadband internet cable users when it first came out in the early 90's. We went away from it in 2007 because of the unpredictable internet speed at any given time, and went to DSL and then ultimately, U-Verse technology when it was available. While DSL is consistent in it's speed, it is slower. In our area, U-Verse could only offer a max of 25 mbps speed, which is definitely too slow to stream video and maintain an internet connection. Comcast sure has fixed their unpredictable speed problems with "channel bonding". So far, we have NO issues and at 100 mbps, can easily have multiple streaming video channels at once AND decent internet speed. And, the higher speed service from Comcast is about $25 mo cheaper than AT&T, who provides terrible customer service. Comcast is much better at that. Hope to NEVER do business again in my lifetime with AT&T. The planet needs to shake that foul company off itself like a wet dog. Good day!!! ... show more

  • Does NOT WORK with TDS Internet Service.
The Amazon site FALSELY claims it works with ALL internet providers. My story: My old modem and router combination was not working well (with TDS Service) (Fall 2020). The old ones had worked fine the previous 2-3 hears. The TDS tech recommended getting a Netgear Router (N600) and Netgear Modem (Sept,2020). I received the router on Sept 11, and the Modem on Sept. 12. I set them up and started using them on Sept. 13. The results were terrible. The connections continuously turned off. Sometime I could restart, and sometimes I would give up--and then after a bit, I would have a connection. On 9/21, a TDS technician came, checked, and could find nothing wrong. But the problems persisted. Although I could get a connection intermittently, I often could not use my email, and it would stop working in the middle of a project.-- Sometimes able to reconnect, and sometimes not. Two or three times, I called TDS, and they would fix something, and it would work OK for a couple days. On 10/13, a new TDS technician came. He said that NETGEAR modems would not work correctly with TDS. He gave me (trial basis) a new modem/router combination. The on and off problem persisted. On 10/14, this second technician came back, found there was something wrong with the modem and replaced it with a different modem/router combo unit (ARRIS). He told me to send back the NETGEAR modem, get a modem from another company (ARRIS, and one other, but NOT Netgear , but I could retain the Netgear router. The TDS Modem/router (ARRIS) has been mostly working (95%). And the speed is much faster than it had been--25% faster and about 100-110% of what I am paying for. Today, 10/16, I game to Amazon to attempt to return the NetGear modem. It tells me I should have returned it within a month of when I bought it, and I am a few days too late to return it. I haven't contacted Netgear yet, and that is my next step. It's very annoying that I have wasted a month trying to get the Netgear equipment to work, and now I find out its too late to return it to Amazon. ... show more

  • Works with Optimum and works well
If you're here looking to see if this works with Optimum, you're probably in the same boat that I am in. I've been with Optimum for over 15 years and never ever paid modem fees, then last month I get the bill and Bam, I'm now being charged for it. I called probably like you did, stayed on the phone for 50 minutes, just to be told that it was something that they had to do... Which meant that it was nothing I could do. So the second I was off the phone I came to Amazon to find the right modem that will indeed work with Optimum and this one does and not only does it work, but it's 300 times better than the one that optimum offered. I have the 400 speed package which in the highest that they offer for the Bronx. I was getting no more than 355 on a good day and once I connected this modem I was getting 455, and even the customer service agent was shocked and let me say this, it has been consistently giving me those numbers. Netflix and my Amazon TV has been working without delays or those slight annoying hiccups, and everything has been working so much smoothers when it comes to streaming and also a major notice of improvement on my Xbox one x which for some reason would lag even with the speed I am getting, so it was a headache to play state of decay. Not it works so smoothly, so I highly recommend this modem completely. Don't hesitate , this is the one to get ... show more
