    • Best "pod" coffee you can make

I own this machine and one from DeLonghi. Both machines are great. I experienced leaking around the base of the water tank and think Nespresso could have done a better job on the design. A simple o-ring would solve the problem. For those contemplating a VertuolPlus machine. The leaking can be resolved by removing the water tank to fill and, when reinstalling, press it straight down firmly. So why 5-stars? Simple, because it makes the best cup of coffee for a pod based machine. I also have 2 Nespresso Original line machines and this coffee is better to me than the Americano I can make with either of those machines. And it's easier to do since you don't have to heat the water separately before shooting the espresso shot into it. This is one button, full cup. For those of you who aren't familiar, an Americano is simply a cup of coffee the way typical Americans drink it, made from a shot of espresso. We have this one at home and I have the DeLonghi in my office (it's a color thing). I did notice one difference between the two. The Breville put out more water at any pod size then the DeLonghi. That actually accentuates the bitter notes in the coffee because, as a matter of chemistry, coffee always pulls sour first, then sweet, and then bitter. The trick is balancing the sweet and bitter. If you reprogram this machine to pull a few seconds shorter, the results are a deeper finish to your coffee. For me that means leaving about 1/2 inch at the top of my standard cup. From the factory, this machine filled the cup completely. Taste is subjective and to each their own, but for those of you who get this machine and find the coffee slightly bitter, this will change the profile. I do want to be clear, I'm not talking k-cup bitter here. It's still a great cup of coffee even with default flow. Please remember, no pod based machine makes the best coffee possible. Nespresso VertuoPlus machines just make the best pod coffee possible today. Now for the caveat, if you use crappy chlorinated city water in any coffee preparation the heat will accentuate the chlorine. Don't complain about the results if you don't use good water. ... show more

    • Overheated, stopped working and ended in the garbage.

We received the machine on April 23rd, 2019 and it made coffee rather efficiently until June 9th, when the start button turned red and the receptacle where the pod is inserted wouldn't open and the machine was very hot to the touch. We followed the instructions printed in the accompanying brochure and found out that the company is aware that this situation might occur ("machine internal error" they call it) and we followed the instructions to solve it. We unplugged the coffee machine for some 30 minutes, plugged it and the green light returned. We tried to make coffee again and the same sequence of events took place and we finally unplugged it until this morning, June 10th. This morning we plugged the machine, the button lighted up green and the receptacle opened. We inserted a pod and pressed the start button and it turned red again and wouldn't make coffee or open. The brochure adds that if this happens we should contact a "Nespresso Club," whatever that is. The Amazon site says that the "return window (for our contraption) closed on May 23rd." The life span of this gadget was less than 6 weeks and was unceremoniously buried in the garbage, where it belongs, with a Glad plastic bag as a shroud. We briefly mourned the $170 we had given to Amazon for this defective contrivance, turned our back and walked away. Next? A Black and Decker drip coffee machine, not a Nespresso. machine, of course. ... show more

    • This thing makes great coffee.

We first tried a nespresso coffee while visiting a sibling's home, and we were blown away with the quality of the coffee. Everything about the nespresso was amazing: the smell, the look, and especially the flavor. After returning home from our visit, we took one look at our drip coffee maker and said we are to old for mediocre coffee. So we bought a nespresso machine. And it has been great. As previously mentioned, the coffee is just perfect: the different coffees available, tastiness literally to the last drop, and no grounds/sediment in the bottom. I also need to mention the milk frother. It works like a charm and makes amazing froth. A couple of problems, but they are minor. I was washing drip tray and it fell on the floor and broke, which was a bummer. Also, when ordering coffee, make sure to get the descaling packets. It was not long before we got the signal the machine needed descaling, and it will stop working if not descaled in a timely manner. Having them on hand is a necessity. So in conclusion, the nespresso and aeroccino forther are amazing and well worth the financial outlay. ... show more

This machine is incredible. I love that Nespresso recycles the pods for you which is why I went with one of these over the Keurig. Plus, they give you UPS return shipping paid bags for free to recycle them for you. I love that it brews espresso to regular coffee and it really tastes like quality coffee. It’s quick and the machine maintenance is quite simple and easy. That being said, my only gripe with it has nothing to do with the machine, but the fact that this “Vertuo” machine only brews “Vertuo” pods. Vertuo pods can only be purchased through Nespresso. So all the Nespresso pods you see in grocery stores or through your favorite coffee shops aren’t available for this machine. This was kind of a disappointment because I love Peet’s Coffee and Starbucks Coffee, but am limited to Nespresso’s collection. Which is good, sometimes exquisite. But unfortunately, from what I’ve found, the exquisite coffees tend to go out of stock quite quickly and don’t get stocked very often. So if you find one of the blends that you like that’s regularly available, this is a great deal. But you may want to look for one of the non-Vertuo machines if you want to go with the “Original”/non-Nespresso brand pods. ... show more
