An Outstanding Boom Mount! As someone who films a lot of automotive content, I own many boom arms and use the all the time, and have to say this is one of the best I have ever owned, aside from one other from a big well known Hollywood professionals choice kind of brand, but to be fair, that other boom cost more than 10 times what this one does, so it should be a lot better, and it really doesn't provide any noticeably better footage than this Neewer boom does. From the suction cup base to the camera mount, this hydraulic boom arm is made with top quality parts and was very well designed. The suction cup uses a pump to attach style for a strong grip, with a clearly visible white line to indicate if there is enough vacuum applied for the mount to hold properly. It grips very well to most any automotive surface that is flat enough to allow the cup to grab it, it works on hoods or roofs with far more curvature than most others I own do. One very important thing here is surface preparation for the area the cup is going to be mounted, the surface needs to be as clean as possible to get the best grip. As I shoot cars all the time, I typically carry a small cleaning kit with me that consists of waterless car wash, dry use car wash mitts and dusters, and some isopropyl alcohol for cleaning glass if that's where I will be mounting. As well as a lot of microfiber rags, I keep some for clean use only and dedicate other for dirty use only, easily done by using different colors for me, and wash them frequently to keep them clean. I also use a dedicated clean microfiber rags for cleaning the suction cup base as any dirt or grit in here can not only scratch the cars paint, it also abrades the rubber and creates vacuum leaks over time. Once mounted this base has a really nice and useful 360° oan base with full markings for great shot repeatability as well as various framing options. A Nato style rail is on the top of this pan base, so it can be used with a ton of other things besides the boom arm. A solid arm with serrated tabs if used to bridge the base to the boom arm and allows for a lot of flexibility to get the camera where you want it. It is a well made arm with big easy to use them screw levers that let you lock it down quickly. It holds very well thanks to those serrations that don't let it move even on the roughest roads you can find! The arm can be removed as well to let the boom mount directly to the cup pan base for even more flexibility. The Hydraulic Boom part is fantastic, with thick and rigid aluminum side plates and solid aluminum action rods, this is built to be abused and last while doing it! The entire hydraulic cylinder is made from metal, with an easy to adjust dampening tension ring. Other boom's I have like this often skimp and use a cheap plastic cylinder here and that has been the failure point of many of them for me. This boom also includes an adjustable counterweight at the back end of the boom, thats lets you really fine tune the balance and dampening even further than just the coilover springs adjustment for getting it to be rock solid. The camera end of the boom is also really well thought out, with a nato front mount, that includes options for both 1/4" thread and a claw or prong style action cam mount. With a little creative thinking I can mount 2 cameras to this arm at once, and still be well under its weight rating and be able to get the full dampening effects. An outstanding hydraulic boom arm with suction cup base, that truly stands out as the best among the others in this same price range!

I had so much fun with this. I was going to use the action camera mount with my Insta360 Go 3S, but this also had a 1/4-20 mount thumb screw. The max supported weight is 500g or a little over one pound. That means it could support the Sony ZV-1 ii or the new Canon PowerShot V1. That is if the 1/4-20 had enough space to reach under a mirrorless camera. It does not. The attachment point for the camera mount and to mount the arm to the base are both NATO rail types so you may be able to rig something. It's main purpose is to support phone and action cameras and that works great. Pros: Removes so much motion jitter. The suction cup plunger has a safety line to tell you when you are safe to stop pumping. The base has a lock knob and pan function. Change from driver to passenger without having to remove and reseat the suction cup. The cup and base have multiple other mounting options for use with other rigs. the counterweight adjustments is intuitive and easy to dial in. Two pivot areas to get the angle right. The camera mount lock has a knob that can pull out and reseat to turn if something is in the way. No cons and I'm now wondering what else I can add a NATO rail too to use this on?

This Neewer car mount is very sturdy, following the design of some others on the market. The large suction cup promises a heavy payload capacity, much larger than the hydraulic arm that recommends staying below 500 grams. And I'll say that the footage from my Insta360 x4 is incredibly smooth, even on semi-rough terrain. The mount comes with no instructions on what to adjust, and Neewer doesn't offer any tutorials online (at least at the time of writing this). The arm should be horizontal to the ground, which is what the adjustment knobs are designed to tweak for different weights. While the suction cup does what it's supposed to, you really need additional mounting points for safety. Neewer includes a string which I believe is to somehow "tie it onto the car," but with no instructions-- and I really don't what my camera and mount to fly off and smack the car on the string either. The additional mounting threads allow you to attach addition suction of magnetic arms, which I recommend. On my first outing, ten seconds after I pulled out onto the road I noticed that the white line was already visible; for some reason the suction hadn't held. I managed to get safely off the road, and the second attachment worked well, keeping full suction on the mount for the duration of the shoot. But you don't know when the cup might lose its compression until you're already in the danger zone, which is why a second mount is crucial. This is a good car mount, but you're not done.
