  • Fit and Finish Could be Better
I ordered this spanner wrench to disassemble vintage lenses. If you've got a mirrorless camera, then you probably know that (with an appropriate adaptor) you can use all sorts of vintage lenses. Although most vintage lenses will require you to shoot manually -- you have to focus manually, set the aperture manually, etc. -- they offer excellent performance for pennies on the dollar. While not always as sharp as modern lenses, many vintage lenses have a look that photographers value. Unfortunately, many lenses from the 60s and 70s have flaws that negatively affect their performance or make them unusable. Often, these lenses can be fixed, or parts replaced. You can't open up a lens without a spanner wrench. Taking a sharp object and holding it a millimeter away from a polished glass surface while you apply pressure may seem like a bad idea, but that's exactly how a spanner wrench is used. I don't have difficulty getting a good grip on this Neewer spanner wrench. But, the overall fit and finish makes me a little nervous. You basically hold the whole thing together with a couple of knurled screws. If one of them loosens up while you're working on a lens, it could be catastrophic. If I'm working on an inexpensive lens with a scratched element that needs to be replaced, or one with a nasty fungus infestation that needs cleaning, I won't hesitate to use the Neewer spanner. But for an expensive lens, I don't think I'd chance it. ... show more

  • solid build quality
This is an extremely well made spanner wrench. It's surprisingly heavy and stout. Straight out of the box it's in pieces and assembly is required, but that was to be expected. Unlike the version with different tips, this wrench has fixed tips on each reversible arm. Like the version with different tips, you'll find all kinds of uses for it aside from working on lenses. As mentioned, the build quality is top notch. The threaded holes were all clean and without burrs, and the thumbscrews threaded perfectly into those holes to hold the tips and parallel bars. I am so far beyond impressed with this tool, it's just one of those tools you know you'll pass along to your kids for their kids. If there's anything I could knock then it'd be that there is no storage solution for the various bits and pieces that comprise this wrench, so breaking it down for storage means finding a small box or the like to keep it in. Given the build quality and attention to details, I would pay a bit more for a commensurate storage box, but that's nothing to knock the quality of the tool itself. Extremely satisfied! ... show more

  • Not all Stainless, and the stainless parts seem lower quality stainless
I wanted a decent-quality spanner wrench and thought I'd give it a try at a fairly cheap price. By the description, I was expecting an all-stainless tool but the tool looks more like cheap chrome-plated steel. The spanner beams are definitely not magnetic steel and could be stainless or brass, but these have the same cheap chrome plating. The screws seem to be stainless but are of questionable quality. I used these for removing an internal ring from an internally threaded tube and on some old camera lenses and they did a decent job, but like another reviewer noted I would not use these on fine optics for fear of getting flaking chrome into the internals. So these are quality-like the H.F. type tool I consider disposable and one I would expect better quality at the current price point. ... show more

  • This is the tool you need to loosen stuck lens protectors and filters.
Seems like I always get the lens protectors and filters stuck. I probably over tighten them. When they do get stuck, it is frustrating to get them loose to unscrew them. Moreover, some outdoor cameras get stuck lenses that you need to get off the clean, or replace. This spanner wrench to the rescue! It works perfect! This has full adjustability to fit every lens I have. It is solidly built but has fine tips to fit into the tiny lens slots. It adjusts to get a good grip towards the outside of the slots, so I'm less nervous of it slipping and scratching a lens or aluminum ring. I can get enough torque to loosen very stuck lenses or filters. Very Nice! The machining and finish are perfect. The spanners slide nicely on the rods. The knobs are easy to tighten and loosen. This is really a high-quality tool given its price and quality. An exceptional value. ... show more

  • I like size range. I just wish..
I like the size range. I work on watches and cameras and so far it hasn't slipped or twisted on me. I do manage to damage things from time to time, so I wish the tips on the spanner were changable. That way if I were to damage one I could get a new tip rather than get a new spanner. I happy with it but I'm giving it four stars ,which is still good, because the tips are not changeable. Hope my review helps you. ... show more
