  • Definitely bright. But a little wonky.
OK, I'll just start out by saying this thing is bright. That said, it's kind of a funky setup. First of all, there's no glass in front of the LED chips. They're just covered in the typical yellow plastic-y looking stuff. So there's a little more potential for damage there. And I wonder if this contributes to the significant hotspot the light has in the center, when using the supplied reflector. From case to stand requires a few steps. The handle/stand mount affixes to the bottom of the light, and gives you an umbrella "hole," and a little mini v-mount for an NP-battery mounting plate. It has a couple of little extrusions that lock with the light, so things won't swivel around. This design feels a bit "ten minutes ago" compared to other LEDs hitting the market today. The power input is a fat barrel-design. Nearly every manufacturer is just going with USB-C, as high-wattage chargers are ubiquitous. There's a provision for using a V-Mount battery via a strappy thing, but it all feels like a lot of inconvenience to hit a certain size-point. And I say that because there are other lights competing in that "uber-small but professionally usable" market space, who seem to do it a little more ingeniously. I am always going to worry about plastic stand mounts. Something worth mentioning is that the included reflector looks like a Bowens mount, but it's actually smaller. There's a Bowens mount adapter that can be placed on the light to hold standard issue modifiers. But that's where the lack of solid metal mounting parts really comes to bear. You have to pay significantly more these days to get solid, yoke-type mounts, where you can crank down on them and keep things still even if you're mounting a large modifier. That just doesn't work with these type of lights in my experience. You can put on a modifier up to a certain size, like, say, a snoot or one of those Joel Grimes Beauty-dish/softbox hybrids. But if you get much larger or heavier than that, there's just not enough there there. Ultimately I would rate this 3.5 stars but there's no provision for that. And I may learn to love it. At this point, there are other lights I'd grab first. This one would come out if I needed one more. ... show more

  • NEEWER MS150B 130W Bi Color LED Video Light, Mini COB Portable Photography Lighting
As other reviews have said, this is bright. Generally speaking, I really like NEEWER products, this one is no exception, mostly I like their products because they seem to put more thought/effort into making products that do more than just the minimum. By that I mean for instance; this light has a battery option, and it uses something that is not going to break the back (moreover it uses something you might well have on hand anyway). This light can either be plugged in or if you are on the go and not near an electrical outlet it can use the same Sony battery that is used to power a camera monitor. I like that because standardization is a great thing, that way if I want to take some shots in a remote location with no electricity, I am not left having to bring batteries for the camera, batteries for the camera monitor, and batteries for the light as well... I need only bring them for my camera and the ones that power this light and the monitor. Another thing I like about this, it is small for what it is and that means that packing it up and carrying it to a remote photo shoot is not a nightmare undertaking, it gives off a lot of light, is not heavy, and packs up very small. That makes this a great option for portable lighting. It definitely fills a niche in that regard. That being said it has both a proprietary and a bowen light mount (and the idea of something proprietary is kind of meh to me since it means more or less that by not buying everything standardized, I could get stuck with accessories I couldn't use on everything, so the other mount is kind of wasted effort to my mind. Also, as another reviewer pointed out the led light is not as protected as in some lights so there is that to worry about. All that being said I do like it and until I find something better/more versatile this would be my choice on portable lighting of this type. I recommend this product. ... show more

  • Ooooh battery option
The design is really, really sleek. I really like the way it looks. That's not important when it comes to a video light though. It's got big grills on the top and bottom to vent off any heat but I didn't see it get all that hot in the first place. What I seriously liked about this light is the option to use two Sony batteries for portable use. Instead of having to break out the whole power brick and find an outlet I just busted out the battery cradle and two batteries instead. It's too convenient. Even just recently I pulled out a bunch of lights but gravitated towards the equipment that didn't need to be plugged to the wall, the MS150B being one of them. ... show more
