  • Works excellent and huge payload
The media could not be loaded. I'm a huge fan of motion lapse videos and my old motorized tripod head gave out after several years, so I ordered this one as a replacement. I absolutely love the new technology using the app to control the motion of the pan head. First, this pan head is heavy. It holds up to 22lbs horizontally and 4lbs vertically which is beast mode. It comes with a NP-F550 battery and charger, which I like because I already have a couple of these batteries from other Neewer photography gear, so I can switch them out if I'm doing a really long capture. You can also power it by type c cable if you want continuous power. One note, if you want to do time lapse photography with this pan head and your DSLR, you will need a shutter cable that is not included. I did a couple quick tests with my iPhone in both timelapse and manual mode. In the video, you can see the app functionality for each method. I sped up the timelapse footage in post to 2X regular speed for purposes of keeping the attached video short. I sped up the manual footage in post 4X regular speed. The speed is something you can dial in on the app, but I recorded everything in the slowest modes which doesn't look as good when sped up in post. The timelapse was done in regular iphone timelapse mode so it took a shot every 30 seconds. The timelapse footage is laggy, I think because it's really set up to take a photo and string them together for a smooth video. While taking a video in timelapse mode, you can see the movement of the pan head and how it slows/speeds up for the shot. However, if it's video as in the 2nd example, it's smooth as butter. Next test is is to set up the DSLR with the shutter cable and take a photo time lapse. Live Stream mode is cool because you can set up the direction and degree of movement, # of loops and run time. This is a wonderful option for live streaming because you can program exactly what you need to film in advance and see the count down on the screen. If you choose the loop option, it will run one direction for 1/2 the time you set, change direction and run for the last 1/2. You can see the countdown timer on the app as it runs. I had to mount it on top of my ball head, instead of having the ball head mounted on top of the pan head. This is because I was unable to move the thumbscrews on my ball head mount due to it sitting flush on the motorized pan head. It looks odd, but worked like a charm. The motor is absolutely silent. I'm stoked to have found this wonderful piece of gear to add to my arsenal. It is priced higher than some I've seen, but the 22lb load capacity is worth it. WOW! Highly recommend. ... show more

  • Powerful Head for TimeLapse
This thing is built like a tank. It's heavy and swill support some serious weight. That's awesome in a motorized head. The construction is metal and hefty. It is powered by an NP battery (included). I like this as I use them frequently, so I always have a fresh battery ready to go. It's a way better option than a built-in internal battery. It is quiet. Crazy quiet. And it is smooth too. The app and controls are a bit unintuivite. But once you figure out what it does, it's a breeze to use. The unit has a power button that doesn't give you an indicator when it is powered on. Look for the small LED light on the side to know if you hit the power button. You can place a piece of gaff tape over the LED if you need it blacked out during use. The app is the same on Neewer uses for all their lights. Its nice to have one source for all your control needs. I prefer using the app and interface for control as it lets you customize and control your settings easily without having to touch the camera or head. The settings are pretty limited and are geared mostly towards time lapse video. There is a manual mode where you set the direction and speed. There is a video mode where you set the angle, number of rotations, and time. There is a photo mode that allows you to trigger your camera for a desired number of images. I'd love to see the app updated to give non-timelapse use to this motorized head. A constant ping-pong effect would be great for continious streaming (you can set up to 10 back-and-forth motions, but nothing continious). Simularly, it'd be great if in manual mode you could set the angle (start and stop) for use during live video (rotate to point A, point B, point C) with a memory in the app for smooth panning. It's a cool tool. An app update geared towards live video would DRAMATICALLY increase the value of this. ... show more

  • A smooth motorized panning gimbal for my MFT DSLR set up
The GM16 rotates very smoothly in both panning directions. When you do a loop panning, the gimbal doesn't jolt when it needs to reverse direction. While the gimbal works very well with my MFT DSLR set up, I'm a bit skeptical about how well it would do with a heavier camera and lens kit. The downside to this gimbal is the app. While the GM16 seems to connect to the app right away, it was excruciating to set up the connection. Every now and then, the GM16 would lose connection to the app and there would be times when it becomes unresponsive. Though it doesn't happen constantly, only randomly every once in a while. I do wish that the GM16 comes with an actual remote as a backup option. In a scenario when you're in extreme cold weather and your phone doesn't want to work, it would be nice to have a backup way to control the GM16 and not lose the photoshoot opportunity. If I come across anything else, I will make sure to update this review. ... show more

  • Never had tripod heads like this before and my initial experience is great!
The media could not be loaded. Behind my house is a park with an unobstructed view of the mountains. It is quite beautiful and I've always wanted to do a time-lapse pan of the area. Well, I ordered this Neewer item, not knowing what to expect. Initially I was pleased because I could see a great Sony battery and charger. I already have several for my lights but always nice to get another to make a complete kit. Then I snapped the battery in (very easy), downloaded the app ad read the directions about how to start everything up. First thing to know is that the device is listed as the GM16 in the app. Just look for that model number and you'll be okay. It is fairly straight forward about how to control this unit, now just need to watch some YouTubes to get an optimum photographic experience. I also ordered this one because it can hold a lot of weight. My mirrorless and lens alone is almost 5 pounds, so I needed something robust. Thank goodness for Neewer! ... show more

  • Neat gadget
The media could not be loaded. Neat gadget to add liveliness to video. The base is made of metal and it is so quiet when it move slowly.
