    • Great but with two warnings

This product does exactly what it says; it is a neater way of feeding cats. That said, it's also a bit more work. I have three cats. One likes to dig in the water dish for a minute or so before drinking, making water puddles on the floor. Another can't seem to keep food in his mouth when chewing and ends up spreading dry food out in a foot diameter. The last, thank goodness, doesn't have any messy eating quirks. I bought this because I am constantly having to both sweep and mop around the kitchen where the food dishes are. Usually it's daily but sometimes it's multiple times a day. Because I get both food and water everywhere, the food gets wet and starts turning to mush on the floor and it's really gross. So we bought this in hopes it would contain the mess and save my floor and sanity. My first warning is that the bowls are so tiny. The one we use for the food doesn't bother me at all but for water, it's just way too small for three cats. If we didn't have a messy eater who drops food bits into the bowl causing me to clean the dish and refill it a few times a day, I would probably have to refill it once or twice a day as it is because it's so small. My second warning is that while it does contain the mess, there still is a mess and cleaning it is easy but can be time consuming. I don't mind doing it once a day as it's much nicer than having to mop all the time, but if you have a messy eater and drinker like me and are looking for something to make it *easier* to clean up, this may not be what you're looking for. It takes me about ten minutes to clean both dishes, get all the food bits out from around where the dishes go and wash the darker bronze area and then clean up the bottom catcher portion. Sweeping and mopping took way less time but for my personal preferences, this way works better for me. Keep that in mind. Looks-wise, I really like it. It's discreet enough and small enough that I don't find it an eyesore in the least. The height is good for cats (although they do sell leg extenders separately) and two can easily fit their heads together in there side by side. My only non-messy eating cat is very skittish and paranoid and was very nervous about eating and drinking from this because the walls acted like blinders but after three days, he got over it and has no problems now. If your cat acts the same, give them a bit of time to get used to it before giving up. Overall, I would definitely recommend it as long as you are aware that this doesn't eliminate your need to clean up after your animals but at least contains the mess to a small area. ... show more

    • Make sure you get the bigger bowls

I have messy cats. They would tip over bowls, fling food everywhere, and generally make cages in a zoo that hadn't been cleaned in a week look cleaner than the kitchen floor even if I swept it every day. These feeders are amazing. They catch most thrown food (and what they don't catch often sits hidden under the unit until swept which maintains a clean appearance...I'm fine with that) and almost all spilled water. My cats are particularly hard on them and I have seen them pull the top away from the bottom a few times and knock water all over - this is enough of a chore for them it doesn't happen often. The grippy feet keep it from traveling far no matter what happens to it. There are a few cons: 1. Standard cat bowls are tiny. Maybe if you have one cat who eats like a bird this will be enough. My cats are free-fed on a super low-carb food so they are supposed to eat as much as they want. I had to go to their website to order big enough bowls for multiple cats. You can solve this by not ordering the cat version and ordering the small dog version instead which seems to have larger bowls. I had to buy the larger bowls separately for one unit and they cost almost as much as the unit itself on the Neater Feeder website, what a drag. 2. It does need to be cleaned. Small bits of food will fall into the grate (full kibble may not always fall down depending on the size, one cat loves to pick kibble out of the grate for fun and eat it) and if enough water is sloshed into the collection pan with food it can create a food paste. I clean this at least once a week and sometimes more to avoid mold growing in the pan. In very humid places you may want to clean more often. Overall it is very nice looking and does the job. It does require a bit of cleanup but is worlds ahead of free-standing bowls with a mat underneath. ... show more
