  • They need some twicking
Color: Extended Dovetail Jaws
First off; Yes they fit Nova chuck body. Pictured is a Nova Midi. Now the main issue is, the recess for the mounting screws is .5mm too small in diameter. As you can see in the pictures the screws sit flush which leaves maybe a thread to secure onto the chuck. Overall, not a deal breaker. I used a 10.5mm drill to remove what was impeding the screws. Please note your mileage may vary. ... show more

  • Should include screws
Color: Power Grip Jaws
It was not clear from the listing that the jaw thickness is more than the Nova jaws, so new machine screws are needed. Screws from the nova chuck are too short to hold this thick of jaw securely. I have not yet used these jaws, so can't yet comment on how well they work.

  • Runs pretty true
Color: Nck-3.75zn
The media could not be loaded. Like clamps, you never have too many chucks. Most times, I have a bowl or two in progress still mounted on the chucks I do have. This chuck is actually part of a complete kit that includes more jaws and even a small version of the Cole jaws. However, this sale item only includes the chuck, one set of jaws, a worm screw, the jaw tightening wrench, and an Allen wrench to remove the jaws. I was very pleased to see that the chuck is compatible with the Nova line of chucks and their jaws. This will expand its usability by leveraging those jaws. In fact, that is one of the more important selling points, you can maximize an investment you've already made and increase your ability to have more than one piece in progress. The one set of dovetail jaws can expand with from 1-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches and inside grip range from 1-3/4 to 3-1/8 inches which provides a wide range of foot sizes. The biggest concern with chucks is if they run true, i.e. no runout. I first put a dial indicator on my spindle to ensure it was contributing no wobble; there was zero movement whatsoever. I next setup up my dial indicator on the chuck itself after finding a completely smooth circumference. Much to my amazement, there was a minor 1/100 of a millimeter runout perceived. I also thought that even if the chuck ran true, the jaws might not be concentric. First, I put the dial indicator on the jaws and ran the lathe at 250 RPM. This proved too fast and the seams between the jaw sections created too huge a bouncing effect. For my second attempt, I turned the lathe manually. As you can see in the video, the result was a minor fluctuation of about 1 tenth of a millimeter (-.02 to +.08 off zero). I find that perfectly acceptable. Check out the short video. This chuck is not inexpensive, as are many of my other chucks, but it is worth every cent. ... show more

  • Nice but with very slight runout at the jaws
Color: Nck-3.75zn
The media could not be loaded. Ok, I have several lathe chucks from Wen to Nova. We have a larger home shop that my wife and I make sellable projects out of. This chuck is good, but priced too much higher than the better and similar WEN chuck. It is a good chuck, hence the 4 star. It lost 1 star for price and about 1/32th of an inch of runout. All the WEN Jaws and plates fit this chuck if your wondering. While turning I noticed it has a very small amount of runout, but more than my WEN or NOVA. Its only really evident if you take the workpiece off the chuck and then put it back in a new orientation. The run out is not at the body but at the jaws internal and external. So, if you clamp or expand into a work piece it has the runout. I tried this on both our nicer Nova Saturn lathe and our smaller mini lathe from HFT. I observed another persons review with what appears to be Zero runout so this my be more of a quality control issue with mine. I did not have a device to measure my runout but it is clear and I was able to perceive it during turning. I also like the WEN style chuck body that has no collar at the thread which keeps it closer to the lathe spindle. This has about a 3/4 collar which when using an adapter puts the chuck even further away from the spindle allowing for more runout or vibration while turning. It is still a good value if you have priced chucks you know this. This company also sells an entire chuck kit with multiple jaws and faceplate and case which is a really good value if you try to price all the pieces. ... show more
