  • I wanted to love you, I accepted your flaws, and we are now togther in sweet harmony! I wanted to love you, I accepted your flaws, and we are now togther in sweet harmony!
I was really happy to get this unit. I was trying to work through a few issues with this it. First, I really like NI products. I have the Audio Kontrol 1 for years. No problems. It was time to upgrade. I was toying with Focusrite Scarlett but went with KK6. Purchased this unit. I choose it for its build quality. Its solid, great flexibility with inputs, outputs. I wanted the Cubase software. That was a deciding factor. Cubase AI 6 did not install properly on Windows 7. Was able to install on Mac. But the software was very "buggy!" Okay I got over that. The additional NI software is pretty good. Within a day a screw came out of one of the rubber feet. Screwed it back, no problem 2 others were loose, tighten that. Moving along.... Had problems registering the hardware. Contacted NI, been a week no, no response. Okay I accepted that as well. I want to upgrade my Apple OS to Yosemite. I want to purchase Final Cut Pro. Problem is NI hardware (as stated on the web and in forums) at this time will not work with Yosemite. This has been an issue with NI for some time. Other brands/interfaces have updated working drivers in Yosemite. I had to then decide about returning the unit. There is no date, 5/27/15, as to when NI will have driver updates. Would like to get in FCP and I require an interface where the drivers are upgraded timely. I really wanted to keep this unit. I am going with the Focusrite unit (don't like red gear) and it just looks plain. However its a good unit, and the drivers are up to date and will work with Yosemite. Then I can work my video editing on FCP. Sorry NI..... Update-O! I really want this unit to work. I love NI. Decided before I send it back I will upgrade my MacBook Pro to Yosemite and see what happens. I upgraded my OS. Not only did the Komplete Audio 6 work (YEAH!), so did my old Audio Kontrol 1! What is the lesson to the story? Have faith in your relationships and "feel the fear" and upgrade anyway! There is always a solution! I'll keep you posted. One more thing. You can't always go by what you read! Yeah!!!!! Just some more notes. This unit is very cool I really love it. I registered the unit as NI did get back to me to complete. I di get the Focusrite Scarlett to try. I was not impressed with it for my purposes. Thanks NI and thanks to Amazon for a great return policy. ... show more

  • Dream hardware (after a couple of system setting tweaks)
I've been craving this device since the first release reviews but I already had an excellent Roland (Sonar-branded) unit. Aesthetically this is a wonderful unit: LED lights respond in intensity to levels and change color to show overloads, solid as a brick and hefty enough to stay put but as small as a thick paperback book, attractive black/aluminum contrasting exterior, satisfying tightness to the front panel knobs (feels high quality), locking combo jacks for front panel inputs 1/2, easy to understand routing and monitoring (enhanced by those LEDs), and just all around classy. The inclusion of 4 ins and outs plus MIDI in and out (for those of us with legacy synths and drum machines) combined with the visual appeal and solid construction make this a top choice in this price range. Installation tips: for Windows systems, reboot the computer after running the driver executable file (that you download) or your system may not see the device as a sound option. At the NI website, you may need to log out and back in to see your KA6 added to your account as an activated device. YOU WILL NEED TO OPTIMIZE YOUR SETTINGS to avoid dropouts (which you may see mentioned in other reviews); for me, that involved changing the fast/save buffer options from within my DAW music software (even though I wasn't using the software to playback my sound files, it was only there that I could get to the buffer setting. NI states that their own control software is downloaded along with the drivers and installer, but I could not locate it.) CAVEAT: I am not noticing any appreciable sonic difference on WAV files through a pair of Sony MDR-V600 sealed ear headphones between this unit and the Realtek hardware/software built into my Acer laptop, but I can't do a true A/B comparison because I need to change the Sound settings in Windows each time. Youtube music uploads sound crisper and better balanced with the KA6, again with the same juggling act of changing the Sound settings before I can A/B each source. ... show more

  • Perfect entry-level digital interface for eager novices and advanced amateurs
I'm a digital music-production wannabee. I have been for more years than I want to recount. Just say I remember the days when we set a radio next to a mainframe and used program behavior to make music from its radio-frequency interference. And then there was programming output to a printer so the hammer noises were melodic. When microcomputers became available, I purchased my first sound card, and of course then there was 8-bit speaker music. My first serious setup was with an E-MU 1840M with PCI board, daughter board, and an external dock. I mastered it a bit, and I learned to make simple use of digital audio workstation software with it. But my computers outgrew it. Newer computers were more powerful, but didn't provide for the 1840M boards and Creative/E-MU did not keep their drivers and software current with later versions of Microsoft Windows either. When I went searching for a replacement, I had to lower my expectations. I was concerned about using USB as a connection to an audio-interface dock, although I understand the benefit of an external dock for its isolation from the interior of the computer and the ubiquity of USB. My minimum requirements were at least one MIDI pair (for use with an existing control surface) a microphone channel, and a turntable input, as well as great outputs. The Komplete Audio 6 was both best in pocketbook terms and in terms of the capabilities. I took a chance on the USB aspect, also realizing that keyboard-style MIDI controllers are now mainly USB-connected too, so that would be available as well. I have since added a little phono preamplifier, and that provided line-in for my work rescuing 78 rpm records and later vinyls. The microphone/instrument inputs are used with my acoustic-electric guitar. I can use the second input for a microphone when I am brave enough to sing. The software that comes with the Audio 6 is an introduction to the software side of Native Instruments. A gratifying aspect of NI being in the device and the software business is that there is constant upgrading and the Audio 6 is not left behind. It is also terrific that the software components that are provided and others made freely available will integrate into commercial workstation software, such as Ableton Live and Cakewalk Sonar. And the Audio 6 remains their entry-level digital interface. It is superb and I expect it to serve me through my continuing part-time adventures into digital music production. The unit, the software, and some inexpensive or free DAW software (such as Ableton Live Lite) have served me through the Coursera Introduction to Guitar and Music Production courses created by the Berklee College of Music. I supplemented my guitar and the Audio 6 with an M-Audio Oxygen keyboard controller and everything worked together seamlessly. I could use a better keyboard, but only as a reward for completing the Coursera specialization in Modern Musicianship in the future. I expect the Audio 6 to be a keeper. I intend to use if more. I have already expanded my use of Native Instrument software, especially as bargain offerings are made from time to time. The interface has served me perfectly as a determined novice. ... show more

  • Wanted to love it...
When you unpack this device the heft and feel of the controls as well as little touches like the top mounted LEDs, the retaining locks on the XLR connectors and the tight USB friction lock make you fall in love with it. Have to say, that the drivers seem very stable under Win 7/64 and the control panel is very useful. And having SPDIF I/O and 4 analog in-outs in this small a package are great. So you really want to love it. Alas, the HW engineers at NI did not execute as well as the software engineers and the marketing department that came up with the concept. Although it should come as no surprise to those who read the spec sheet, the THD as looped back reported by both ARTA and RMMA6 is about 0.01% at the best combination of input and output levels, dominated by 2nd and 3rd order harmonics, so this unit might sound a little "tubey". But these distortion figures are about 10x what you can get from a Focusrite 2i2 Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2 In/2 Out USB Recording Audio Interface for less money (I measured 0.0007%). You can forgive the Audio 6's moderate distortion, but the mic gain controls only have 36dB of range which is way too low. So, you are going to lose out with low sensitivity mics. 50dB is kind of the minimum gain range any interface should have, preferably 60dB. This is OK if you use outboard preamps for low sensitivity mics, but this is supposed to be an all-in-one unit. After doing some measurements with a voltmeter it was confirmed that the Focusrite 2i2 is indeed 17dB more sensitive Komplete Audio 6 when using the mic inputs (and the Focusrite does have 50dB of gain control). But here's an important defect: In previous reviews many folks complained about clicks and pops and almost everyone assumed that this was due to buffer underflow in the drivers that is latency related. I can't speak for all the units out there, but the one delivered to me had issues caused by 48V phantom power being engaged. I would get a random low frequency "thump" every few seconds that disturbed my noise measurements in an otherwise quiet unit, but sometimes it would cease for long periods of time (hours). Perhaps a more severe manifestation of this would cause the clicks others heard. I also noticed that the distortion of the loopback results was affected by the headphone output level. Driving my Sennheiser PMX60 phones this was noticeable and would drive up the distortion to 0.12% when the mic sensitivity was high. This is just plain weak, no such affect with the Focusrite. All the above said, the unit and drivers are solid even at 24b/96k, most (nearly all) won't notice the distortion and it does have a lot of features, so it could be a great choice for a home or traveling studio if your mics have enough output. My needs are focused on measurement of loudspeakers, specifically distortion, so it's going back even though I love the feel of it. ... show more

  • Lots Of Awesome In A Small Package
After upgrading my old speakers to a pair of KRK Rokit 6G3's and some Audio-Technica ATH-M50X's, I made the right choice with buying this audio interface. It works great with my Mac, with minimal setup and easy usage. Not to mention, the product itself looks FANTASTIC! Sound is also crystal clear, and for my needs, all the I/O is more than capable. It's USB-powered, so it's extra portable for those of you who like to move around. Physically, one of the nicest features about this unit IMO is the big volume scroll wheel. It's much easier to be detailed with volume! Thanks for the awesome interface, NI! ... show more

  • Awesome device, fantastic value
Better than expected.. I have a bunch of NI gear and it has never disappointed. Loud and clear sound, the best set of IO for a device at this price, and I love having separate volume control for my main monitors and my headphones.. my previous device only had a single volume control for everything. And it's bus-powered, so no extra power adapter needed. Very low latency on my Win 10 desktop workstation and my MacBook Pro too. Solid build, with an aluminium shell around the front and back. The $25 NI gift card helps bring down the purchase price. ... show more

  • love it
I’ve been using this interface for three years now and it hasn’t had any issues on Mac. I use all the inputs and midi ports too. I love the huge volume knob and it looks modern. The sound quality is great. I’ve recorded a lot of music and podcasts without issues. The only problem is that it has a switch for monitoring inputs 3/4 that doesn’t work... like on any interface. Idk why Native Instruments would include that switch if it doesn’t do anything, but honestly doesn’t have an effect on what I’m doing with it. Still love it and it works on my iPad too ... show more

  • Literally the worst customer service I've ever encountered.
So you come to expect difficult installations at times with deeply complex products like this. I've been using complex computer products since the 1980s. I'm not new to the dance. I was using computer based video and music editing software in the 90s and had to spend a lot of time on the phone to Canada to make the software and hardware work. I've used customer support online and by phone. NI has the worst most appalling customer and tech support of any product I've ever used hands down. I have spent the last 3 weeks sending an email. [wait 3 to 5 days for response] only to receive a stock copy and past answer. "Try reinstalling the software." Do you think I'm stupid? It took 3 days to tell me to reinstall the software??? Email back that didn't work. [wait 4 days] Receive stock copy and past email that does not help. If this company has phone support, I can't find it and they aren't giving it up. All I'm getting is automated responses that don't help one bit. There are times you need a human, or someone who can do log-me-in to fix a problem in no time. This has been appalling. I know many people are pleased with the product. If it worked I'm sure I'd be very pleased. I can't get it to work. So I'm not. For those interested, my computer can't see the ASIO drivers, the most basic required element for this product to work. So, I'm going to have to return it if I can't solve it ASAP. Bummer. I was really looking forward to using it. ... show more
