  • Nice Pieces
Style: 5x 5-6 Inch Cholla
I was a little confused by some of the reviews but decided to take a chance to use these in my tank for clown plecos. I am highly satisfied with the 5 pieces included and their quality. I bolied mine for 90 minutes to get the tannins out. All 5 pieces sunk to the bottom by this time. Placed them in the tank and have not had any discoloration in my water. No complaints with this product and will buy again at some point. ... show more

  • Brings a natural look to the aquarium
Style: 5x 5-6 Inch Cholla
They turn a purple reddish color after they've been in the water awhile. I like it. These work great in my tank to add a bit of a natural touch and the baby fish love hiding in them. They will float at first but you can either soak them in a bowl and weigh them down to soak in water or let them eventually sink on their own. ... show more

  • Big Chunky Wood
Style: 3x 5-6 Inch Cholla
These were a nice find. for less than $5 a piece you get nice chunky pieces of cholla wood that sinks in about 2 days. Good sized hollows for baby shrimp and crayfish. will reorder but these will absolutely last a while! Buy with confidence. I got the 4x5-7" pack.

  • Pretty Good
Style: 3x 5-6 Inch Cholla
I like 2 out of the 3 pieces I received in my order. I ordered a 3 pack that were supposed to be between 5-6 inches and that is what I got. The third piece had a chunk missing and inside was what looked like a chunk of mud. Not using that one. The other two are good and my shrimp seem to like them. I wanted the smaller size hoping that my coryadoras wouldn't be able to fit inside them (they're curious and have to check out eveything). Mission accomplished. My corys can't fit and leave it alone. I have one in my 10 gallon and one in my 45 gallon and both are fine. No problems. Soaked them in boiling water before adding to my tanks. I think overall they're pretty good and I would order again. Plus with prime it's risk free. I gave away the third piece since I didn't need it and didn't feel like messing with it. ... show more

  • Definitely Recommend but……
Style: 3x 5-6 Inch Cholla
Pleasantly surprised at the circumference of these! I knew I ordered larger ones than in the past, but these are nice. As much as I hate boiling anything hardscape-wise before I’ll put it in my tank (Mopani wood…looks great but the worst of them all when it comes to boiling imo) I did as I usually do and will boil these at least twice. If I wanted super crystal clear water, I’d be boiling, repeat, boiling, repeat. Been there done that and sometimes even then it will release some tannins in certain types of wood. But no biggie, it’ll filter out and if it’s overkill, just add some filter floss to my filter. Previous cholla wood I’ve purchased has always been shorter and much smaller. Then after thinking I was looking for my dead betta on the floor bc it wasn’t in the tank (she somehow managed to get herself possibly wedged in the smaller cholla piece I already had whether by choice or accident still not sure if she was actually stuck), i ordered these larger ones. Immediately visually pleasing, into the pot of boiling water they go and I realize the bigger the cholla, the larger the holes. And if my betta could wedge herself in the shorter/smaller size of cholla wood, i definitely don’t want some of my other fish, nano or not, to get stuck. As I’m boiling I’m just making sure I can see through them all and there isn’t any obstructions or something I won’t want in my tank. And yep sure enough…one was obstructed by dirt/clay. So I recommend using something while you’re boiling it to poke through and get any debris or junk out. I used a chopstick which worked well. A good amount of small chunks of dirt/clay came out and I know I would’ve been pissed if I put that into one of my tanks for my water to muddy up. I actually don’t mind the tannins since its good for some species of fish. So the water being slightly discolored doesn’t bother me because its healthy for some of the fish in my tanks and helps re-create their natural environment. But mud water is a whole different issue. So if you don’t have something to get any gunk out and don’t have chopsticks….go get some chopsticks. Otherwise, definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Will NOT stop producing dirt/color in tank?!
Style: 5x 5-6 Inch Cholla
Arrived on time, looked very good in packaging. I choose these over others due to the disclaimer that they did NOT need to be boiled/soaked to achieve to sink, nor did they need other PRE treatment before placement in the tank. But as I was cautious w everything, I DID soak in boiling water prior, was VERY glad I did due to the dirt/brown output found. I also soaked/replaced about 8 times over a 48 hour period until I thought the water was finally cleared. First, as shown? Some STILL floating, but that NOWHERE NEAR as provoking as the brown water caused by! Water was crystal clear when setting up. Ran new pump & filter for over 24 hours, even after scary heater malfunction (see the review on, TERRIFYING) tank water was clear. Placed the logs? Less than 24 hours the water looks brown murky from, and I included a picture from a NEW filter that I replaced AGAIN from the unsolved water issue caused by the wood. I can't get it clear w use of, so I now have to find something else to replace w that the ghost shrimp can hide out in, as well as useful in. If anyone knows what I can do to resolve? Greatly appreciate. I even raised the stars from 2 to 3 as they ARE lovely to look at, but if produce such that I can't remove the dirt, or whatever the "brown" causing the water discoloration in and the build up so heavy 2 new filters later it's STILL not clear? Then should be noted NOT FOR USE IN WATER AQUARIUMS. Very frustrated w all of this attempt to upgrade my poor turtle to larger, and more enriching surroundings. ... show more
