The Haunting of Castle Malloy is another well thought out programmed PC Game! I have never been disappointed with any of the Nancy Drew Series and this one is no exception. Again it educates in a most poignant way about the area or location of the world you are at. I literally had to search the internet to learn how to play and score in darts! And now I know how to play darts. I became quite the "Mixer" when I had to serve at the Irish Pub. Some parts are a wee bit tricky lass, like once you program the jet pack. If you are not in the location the game somehow needs you to be at you will explode and die but come back to life often.lol Also when you are jet packing about I thought I could fly up into the heavens...not so I lost fuel and had to be given another chance. Look I am an adult and I never leave any nancy Drew game without learning something about a part of the world i did not know. As usually I suggest you to purchase this game you will never be bored or disappointed. I did need the walkthrough on certain areas mostly getting to the hut in the bog. I died a lot of times then also but was given a chance at re-birth. Getting the chemicals in the right bins was a real "BLAST" literally. I blew myself up and many and several occasions but after being blown to smithereens I soon caught on just how cautious I must handle those chemicals. Nancy Drew Series Rule for sure! I've played all but 3 of the Nancy Drew games (Secretes, Old Clock and White Wolf). The Haunting of Castle Malloy is now my new favorite. It was formerly Train to Blue Moon Canyon. I enjoyed the visuals (eerie night scene of an old Irish castle perched on the ocean next to a garden, a barn and a bog), the new map that allows you to actually walk around the proprety rather than just pointing and clicking on a new destination, the lack of tedious chores or repetitive mazes that is typical of previous games, the more interesting and brief dialog with other characters that doesn't bore you, the multitude of many different puzzles rather than a few large ones, and the general story line. Normally, I am ready for a game to end, but this one had so many twists and turns that I was actually sad when it ended. Castle Malloy is a bit like Curse at Blackmoor Manor in tone and manner, but less frustrating because you don't have to go up and down stairs ad nauseum. ... show more

Oh my goodness, where do I start? For as long as I can remember, I've adored all things Nancy Drew. When I was in middle school, I used to save up my allowance year-round to purchase the latest Nancy Drew Interactive games, and would spend an amazing amount of time each summer engrossed in solving them. Some of my best childhood memories come from the hours of gameplay and friend/family involvement that made solving each case a thrill; but somewhere along the way I fell behind in HER Interactive's latest releases. Now in my third year of college, I stumbled upon the latest line of ND games when my younger sister insisted we learn the fate of our old beloved game series, and VIOLA - nearly a dozen games spanning several years that I never knew had existed. I was completely beside myself. After downloading a test trial of The Haunting of Castle Malloy, I had planned to purchase the entire game via download, which led me to Amazon.com. I must say, however, some of the reviews I chose to read while hoping to confirm my wonderstruck first impression of the game were incredibly negative...ARE incredibly negative. In less than five minutes, I went from scooting around in my desk chair with anticipation to spending an unnecessary hour and a half filtering through reviews and product data, wondering if I was about to make a bad choice. The reviews said things like, 'repetitive', 'dull', and the ever-fatal 'the ending will make you sorry you had spent the time on the game'. Well, I would just like to tell you that these were all silly things to claim, and I am exceedingly glad that I chose to purchase this game in the end. While I value objective criticism and honesty, especially as it pertains to where I spend my money, HER Interactive has come a long way since the first time I played Secrets can Kill. The Haunting of Castle Malloy was a beautiful, if understated, tribute to Irish culture, and many of the classic elements of Nancy Drew are there. Nowadays, we watch films like Paranormal Activity and aren't satisfied if our scares don't live up to such outrageous levels, so saying that this game is 'scary' feels ever so slightly dishonest. But the storyline of the game was spooky, and HER did a great job of balancing the fright factor with it's knowledge of it's younger fan base. You aren't going to have nightmares about it, but the jumps are something that you can believe in. In addition, the carefully contained environment that the gameplay functions within is elegantly detailed, challenging, and exploration of the interface is linear. It's nearly impossible to get truly 'stuck' anywhere because changes in setting and location occur only when you have advanced far enough to open another element into the game. As someone who used to spend hours and hours mindlessly clicking around older Nancy Drew games where this tactic was not employed, I was beyond thankful. Yes, the game occurs all in one night. No, for once there isn't a core theme that you walk away feeling much more educated about (Mayans, Egyptians, marine biology ) - and I truly did miss this. Yes, there is pretty much only one place for Nancy to explore, and for her to poke around in for the entirety of the game. You don't get to hop into a car, kayak or train and take off to a new town or city to uncover more clues. But in my opinion, the storyline that The Haunting of Castle Malloy bears would only be bogged down and lengthened to unneeded amounts if someone were to include any of the missing pieces listed above. As it stands, I find this game to be quite wonderful; and while not the very best Nancy Drew game yet invented, it is a worthy entry into any girl's HER Interactive library. So read these reviews with an open mind, because no one is exactly the same as you, and their favourite games may be your least favourite. Let your preference have the final say. But if you want my advice? Buy it. ... show more

I am a big Nancy Drew Mystery games fan. Some have been okay and others mediocre. This one is one of the best. The story line is interesting and being able to see Nancy is fun. Some of the puzzles were hard and I needed a walkthrough, but that is okay. I was glad not to have to make meals over and over again like on another recent game. That kind of thing really interrupts the flow of the game. This one went along smoothly and the puzzles were integral parts of the game. I have played almost ALL of the Nancy Drew games. Became hooked since I was 8 and here I am, 20 years old, still playing them. I found this game to be a lot like Ghost of Thornton Hall, #28 adventure. (as far as the plot goes) In The Haunting of Castle Malloy, the groom disappears, verses the bride disappearing in Ghost of Thornton Hall. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are many places to explore. The game "map" was a lot bigger than expected. The tasks are not mind cramping or frustrating, In fact, pretty do-able. Everything you do has a purpose and there are not many time wasting activities. The setting is very interesting, in a fire damaged castle in the middle of Ireland. Cool! I'm impressed with the game over all. Worth the time spent solving this mystery! ... show more
