I have been eagerly awaiting the 22nd of April, ever since I pre-ordered this CD on Amazon over a month and a half ago. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait! That's because Anne Wilson is one of those rare artists, whose music I connected with instantly, upon hearing her played on Christian radio during recent months. Anne, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, was a mere age of 19 when this album was recorded (having officially entered her 20s a couple months back). But there is no doubt, that she is far beyond her years. Both her poise, and the ingenuity of her musical craft, belie her physical number of years on this planet. I previewed this entire CD just now, and there is not a bad song anywhere in sight, and with a heap of instant classics to boot. There is a fairly wide range of musical styles on offer here. I was absolutely blown away by opener "Scatter," which is a weighty pop rock number with heavy guitars and delightful hooks that is truly cracking, and that might not sound too out of place on an Alanis Morissette or Billie Eilish record, for example. "Sunday Sermons," on the other hand, has that classic country twang, and a chorus you will not get out of your head for days after listening! And then, there is of course the smash hit title track itself, which is a perfect showcase for Anne's unique and distinctive vocal delivery and phrasing. Her voice is truly one-of-a-kind and instantly recognizable. She truly sounds like no other artist performing today, other than Anne Wilson. And let's not forget that all of her lyrics are heartfelt and sincere and richly saturated in scripture. They explore themes that are relatable enough to pretty much anyone. Ever felt down in the dumps and limited and imprisoned by other people's opinions of you? On "Hey Girl," Anne sings, "Letting everybody and their mother try to tell you what you're worth.../I'm a blood bought, battle fought, all my shame long gone/Made new child of the king/I'm an amen, testify, holy water baptized/Went down and came up clean/I'm a soul been saved/ By that amazing grace." Perhaps the overriding theme of the album, though, is one of heavenly power harnessed out of the ashes of adversity and the waters of affliction: "I had to lose hope/To finally stop runnin'/And I had to feel alone/To learn I wasn't/In every hour that felt too dark/In every moment He felt far/Every time I felt like He forgot/Didn't know I was closer to God" -- from track 14 "Closer to God." All in all, a brilliant debut from this beautiful and mega-talented young woman, that should rightly catapult her into the upper echelons of today's female contemporary Christian artists, the list of which includes names such as Lauren Daigle, Francesca Battistelli, and Riley Clemmons. I wish to thank you, Anne Wilson, for witnessing to the world by sharing your gift and inspiring words, at a time when we seem to need it most. This album is in a word, YES. Get it. Her voice is powerful and soul stirring. These songs are triumphant and heartfelt. The lyrics are clearly born out of tears and a heart that said no to defeat. I love that Anne pressed in to get to know Jesus. Keep pressing in, girlfriend! This world needs you and your (and my) Jesus. ... show more

It's rare that I like nearly every song on an album, but Anne Wilson has pulled off an incredible debut album here. Love the country vibe and strong Christian lyrics. It's a refreshing change from the average, cookie cutter, mainstream radio-friendly pop songs so many Christian artists put out. Liked it so much I literally purchased a second one for a gift immediately after listening to it the first time. Hope she puts out many more albums! ... show more

I was already a fan of "my Jesus", we sing it in church and everybody loves it even the kids! I'm starting to learn the words and singing along to the other songs as well. I love the mama song (so pretty) and Sunday sermons

Great album for sure, my only thing is, is that if I purchase I should be able to get a free download to my phone. I have bought other cds and there was an instant download so why not with this one.
