  • Spoiler-free review
Yeah, a spoiler free review for an album Kendrick goes places here, tons of layers of interesting vocals/instruments/lyrics that are open to interpretation at times, which makes for a slow burn. It's DEEP in the musical sense and also the lyrical sense. One of those albums with huge replay value (well maybe except for We Cry Together). Mr. Morale is one of the hardest beats I've ever heard, with some dead serious lyrics on top of it. This touches some subjects that a lot of people are uncomfortable with and I applaud Kendrick for 'steppin'' to them. I won't take a star off because of this, but 'The Heart Part 5' isn't included here. It's the last track on the Spotify album, clocks in at like 8 minutes, and is easily the best conclusion to the whole album. (8 minutes is probably why it's not on this double LP) I get it, but am disappoint. It kind of ties everything together, in a way, but explaining why would be a spoiler. Do yourself a favor and listen to that after this. ... show more

  • Vinyl pressing has problems.
Five stars for the content. Pressing has issues. I’ve unfortunately been through multiple copies of this album before giving up and settling for the one with the dish warp over the several with non-fill or groove distortion issues. One version had multiple spots where the grooves became heavily distorted; another was full of clicks and pops; last copy seems to be minimal on the sound quality issues, but is warped. Doesn’t seem to impact play as of now, but it might be worth waiting for a second or third pressing to see if the pressing issues are taken care of ... show more

  • New Kendrick Lamar!!!
MMATHS is the highly anticipated new Kendrick CD. I have to give him credit first of all for never repeating himself on any album, everything he submits to his fans is guaranteed to be different than what came before. That being said I love the sound of it, but it may be hard to digest right away for a casual fan. One of his strengths is wrapping his albums up, and he does that well again here. But some of the middle tracks are just good, but he's been held to a standard of greatness. Still a very worthwhile purchase, may just have to be patient to fully absorb the experience. BTW major shout out to Kodak Black on this album, was not familiar with him in any way aside from his shenanigans, but the kid clearly has skills and is nice! ... show more

  • Decent
Some may say “Album of the year.” And while I can understand that opinion, I just don’t agree. Was this album complex, personal for Kendrick and with a lot of emotion and depth? Absolutely. But album of the year it is not. For me to vote an album, album of the year I’ve always thought that there shouldn’t be any skippable tracks, which this one has plenty. Great for Kendrick fans for sure and definitely needs more than 1 listen to actually catch what all is happening on this album. ... show more
