Description

Duran's second album, Rio, was released in 1982 following the success of their debut album. Rio electrified the already-rising 'second British invasion', dominating the American charts with singles such as 'Rio', 'Hungry Like The Wolf' and 'Save a Prayer'. All of which remain as some of Duran's biggest streaming songs to this day.

  • Dancing in the sand
It's 23 degrees here in Pennsylvania as I write this review and believe me, I wish I were Rio, dancing in the sand with those cute Duran Duran chaps! Showing my age here--I had this on vinyl many many years ago and wore out the grooves. This album is just peppy and the music makes you want to dance. I even taped the album onto a cassette so I could listen in the car. (I am REALLY showing my age here.) Well, one of my younger sisters snagged the record, my cassette tape garbled and that, as they say, was that. Then I found this CD, handed over my money and it was delivered quickly--ON A SUNDAY! And my house has been shaking and I'm back in the 80s when I could still dance around without needing oxygen. Just sorry it took me so long to get me a copy. John Taylor, call home! ... show more

  • The album that really kicked them off in the states!!!
Hello, yes this is definitely one of if not the best Duran Duran albums...Here is where they became really big in the U.S. via MTV. "Hungry Like The Wolf" and "Rio" were early MTV staples as well as big top 40 hits. "Lonely in Your Nightmare" is a nice romantic song, as is "Save A Prayer", which was later released as a single that charted well in America. The album holds together really well, "Hold Back The Rain" and "New Religion" are good as well, with the latter providing the name for my late '80's high school garage band's name. "The Chauffeur" is an enchanting piece...you should see the video as well, although it is not for children. Nudity is what I'm saying here....Anyway I wore out my old cassette of this, and I now have it on mp3, so I can replace the Cd copies whenever I wear them out!!! Iconic cover art...what else can I say! If you love music that represents the best of the '80's, look no further than here! ... show more

  • Rio will make you want to dance and make you pay attention to its lyrics.
I was born the year this album was released. But because of my research on this group, research on this album, and my listening to Rio for the past nine days, I can tell you that Rio was the album that made Duran Duran worldwide stars. Rio possessed the vocals (namely lead singer Simon Le Bon) and the beat production to enable it to be one of the top hit albums of the 1982-1983 music buying season. Yes, Rio was meant to be a popular music hit album and it was set up to appeal to American fans and fans over seas. But at the end of the day, Rio was a good album that made you want to think pensively about relationships and make you want to get up and dance. I've heard of Duran Duran ever since about 1993 when I was in fifth grade, but I never gave their music much of a thought before March 2018. Now, I consider myself a fan of Duran Duran. My favorite songs on this album (in order): 1.) Track 4: Hungry Like the Wolf 2.) Track 3: Lonely in Your Nightmare 3.) Track 2: My Own Way 4.) Track 9: The Chauffeur In conclusion, Rio will entertain you and that's what I want when I buy an album. ... show more

  • Rio Reissue on Vinyl is Fantastic
I bought this album in 1983 in the US (on cassette, no less), and I don't think I had ever even heard the original mixes of the tracks remixed by Kershenbaum for the US release. I had always thought the first album sounded better sonically. However, this reissue puts that to bed--the original mixes of the Rio, My Own Way, etc., are fantastic, and the mastering is perfect (i.e., it sounds transparent to me). Together with the high-quality packaging, this release is well worth the money if you love this album. The inclusion of the Kershenbaum remixes on the "bonus" EP is great for the nerd in you. ... show more

  • Rise Of "The Fab Five"
I heard "Hungry Like The Wolf" a while back, but never listened to the rest of the songs on this album. However, I finally took the time to listen to the album in full and I'm proud to say that this album exceeds my expectations. This album was in fact the reason why Duran Duran rose to fame, so this album should be owned by any Duran Duran fan. ... show more
