Description

Learn how to use a sewing machine while making fantastic projects! With 35 projects that you’ll love to make and a helpful techniques section, this book will teach you all about sewing machines. Start out with Clothes and Accessories, where you can make a felt collar and cozy scarf, as well as a pretty skirt. Then try one of the Bags and Cases, such as a cute bobble-trim coin purse, an MP3 player case, and even a sleepover bag. Transform your room with Things for Your Room—the wall tidy looks great and gives you somewhere to store all your bits and pieces, and you can brighten up your bedding with a patchwork quilt. Finally, why not have a go at the Toys and Games? Make a rag doll, and then clothes for it, too, to get a feel for dressmaking, or create a fabric games board for playing checkers and chess. Every project has step-by- step artworks to guide you, plus a skill level so you can start with easy items and move on to more challenging things as you get better at using your machine. Read more

  • Lovely book

This pairs perfectly with a mini sewing machine. It has patterns that are fun and easy to make.

  • We can use this book! We can use this book!
Format: Paperback
I got my 8 year old this book and a Janome sewing machine for Christmas - and have been very pleased with both. My mother was a sewer, so I've been around it all my life, but I no longer have her and do not have half the skill she had. But my daughter loves getting crafty and wanted to try it. It has been a good purchase. We just finished making these three projects pictured for our county fair - the Fox bag with felt, a pencil case out of scrap fabric, and a laundry bag. They are not perfect. I can point out a dozen flaws, but we had a good time making them (most of the time, ha!) and we have three items she can use and be proud of! I did most of the cutting and pinning, she did the bulk of the sewing. Definitely recommend this book if you are not a master yourself but want to just sew something. I'm sure we will make more projects out of this book, my daughter has her eye on the laptop case and the dolls. I should add the only direction I did not follow was to baste. We just pinned and sewed. I haven't noticed basting helping. ... show more

  • This book is perfect for my young sewers! This book is perfect for my young sewers!
Format: Paperback
My kids LOVE sewing and this book has great visuals and enough written instruction that it’s clear what to do. I’m definitely happy with this purchase. The projects are simple enough that they are approachable for kids. Hours and hours of sewing fun!

  • Good first sewing book
Format: Paperback
A pretty good first sewing book. Fairly easy to understand and not too long so as to lose interest.

  • Useful!
Format: Paperback
When I got my granddaughters started on sewing, this book was part of the impetus to get them going. The girls pored over the book and after receiving their fabric they started sewing up projects in this book. The fox purse turned out adorable. The apron was perfect for their mom!

  • Great book for our Grandaughter
Format: Paperback
Our 10 year old grandaughter wanted a sewing machine which she loves as well as this book. Found several projects immediately and got her mother to take her to the fabric store to buy materials to make some of the projects in the book.
