Easy to use and set up inexpensive DVD player, but the DVD spinning when it is playing can sound like one of those old school film projectors so you might want to set DVD player in a cabinet to hide the sound.

Very unsatisfied. I had it hooked up and playing and a week later it has one of my DVD stuck inside of it and it doesn't play at all. This player isn't worth the money.

The main reason I chose this DVD player is that it plays DVDs that are coded for other regions of the globe. There are so many movies, old and new, that just do not make it to the US. And of these, there are quite a few movies that I found to be outstanding, and many others quite good but definitely not palatable for an audience entrenched into Hollywood’s ruts. Many such movies have been picked up and made available by streaming services, but many others are still not available in any other form but physical, usually DVDs coded for regions outside US so that they do not play in the usual, single-region DVD players. And if you are more into the contents than perfect image quality, DVDs would do; otherwise, Blu-ray and UHD Blue-rays are always there, at a premium both for the disks, and for a Blu-ray player which this DVD player IS NOT. Still, Blue-rays are region coded, too. By the way, just for people not in the know: disk units for computers (which are a rarity these days) are by default single-region, but do allow changing the region for up to five times over the whole life of the disk drive, enforced in the hardware. So, this DVD player is in a different league: it plays any DVD from any region, disregarding how many times it has to switch regions, unlimited. All functions work perfectly, as far as I tested. The features I appreciate the most are the control of the screen aspect ratio and upscaling (and also downscaling, if needed) of the resolution, both of these features working surprisingly well. Also, if you need to hop between NTSC and PAL video systems, this player accommodates it. Also, big plus, very good audio quality, definitely high quality circuitry going into this small player. The build looks good, and the layout of controls and connections is well designed. The buttons on the unit are real good, not the usual cheap buttons that almost all, including expensive units have these days. Great versatility, this player provides three ways to connect to a TV and a dedicated RCA pair of outputs for an audio stereo setup. The mechanics are silent and, so far, work smoothly and reliably. The one thing I do not like is how crowded the remote is. Sure, makes for a small footprint, but it also makes it hard to use in the dark. And there is not enough tactile differentiation for the main, most used buttons like the navigation arrows. Otherwise, the remote does work perfectly, and the quality of the buttons is very good. The instructions / manual that comes with the unit is well written, comprehensive and in good English. Well written, easy to understand and easy to read, in normal sized typeset – very well done. I would say, this is one of the best DVD players I have seen in quite a while, across all price ranges. Truly a good surprise, well deserving of a full five stars rating in my opinion. ... show more
