As someone who suffers from sciatica problems, I've been looking for a decent back brace to help alleviate the pain, especially when driving. I tried several, and this one with the lumbar support really does the trick. I tried a couple of other brands, but Mueller overall produces a great product for a reasonable price. Construction is excellent - seams are tight, ample velcro, easy to put on and take off. I have a 34" waist and this fits fine -- could easily accomodate several more inches. I started with the basic Mueller brace (the one without the lumbar). Nice, but didn't really help all that much in terms of pain. The higher end Mueller (the one with the laces on the back) was also very nicely made and a snap to adjust, but again, it didn't offer the support I needed. The lumbar pad on this model makes all the difference. They have videos of several of their models on their website which are very helpful, but they are hard to find -- I just stumbled across them by plugging in the model numbers. Good info, but a very poorly organized site. Everyone's back is different, so unfortunately you'll need to try out various models to see what hits the sweet spot for your condition. All three Muller braces that I've tried were all very well made and a good value, so I can highly recommend the brand. I ended up buying two so I could keep one in the car and one at home. I found that using both lumbar supports next to one another makes the support even better. The lumbar pads attach with velcro, and there is room to fit both on the same belt side-by-side. That works best for me when driving. A single lumbar pad works well for when I'm mobile. I also want to pass along some advice I received from my physical therapist regarding braces. While they can be huge help, you should not wear one constantly since it can lead to muscle atrophy. The ideal situation is to build up your core muscles so they do the job on their own. A brace is just a stop-gap to help cut down on pain on the bad days or when you are stressing the muscles (which, for me, occurs when I'm driving long distances). Used judiciously they're great; used improperly can make the situation worse. If you're reading this you probably have back pain, and I very much hope you find the right solution that helps make the situation better or at least more tolerable.

I rarely ... RARELY ... write reviews, but just had to in this case. I'll apologize in advance for all the specific details. I suffer from back spasms. A few times a year I bend over to pick something up or what have you and my lower back on the right side just seizes up. Sometimes I am left flat on my back on the hard floor for a few days before things get better, sometimes I'm able to move around a little bit, but it's always super painful. In the mirror, I look like a question mark. Beyond the spasm, the rest of me starts to hurt because the non-spasming side has to compensate. I also have a lot of weakness in the lower back. Just so you know, I don't have the issue where the pain goes down my leg ... it's just in my back. I treat the back spasm with the usual: Ice, heat, ibuprofen, back massager. In the end, treatment helps but really time is the only thing that really works; eventually my back just heals. I bought this brace the last time I had a spasm. I picked it for no other reason than it was "Amazon's Choice" and it's under 20 bucks. I figured I had nothing much to lose. Best under 20 bucks I ever spent. To be clear, the back spasm wasn't instantly healed. I did not strap on the brace and immediately feel 100 percent. A spasm is an injury. Injuries take time to heal. A brace doesn't change that. But I immediately felt better when I put it on. All that stress on the non-spasming side was relieved. The support lessened the pain on the side that of the back spasm. Before I put it on, I could get around my house a little bit, but after I put it on I was able to take a slow walk around the block. While it didn't "heal" the spasm, I believe it sped up the healing process by providing needed support. As I write this, I'm back to about 95% of where I was before the latest spasm. I'm able to go for a walk and am even back to going for a run (I have been wearing the brace on my runs. I'm slower, but not that much slower.) The brace is super simple to wear and very comfortable. I don't sleep in it, but I could if needed. I mostly leave it on while I'm sitting at my desk working even though I'm mostly better because why not have the extra support given I have a weakness in my back? It's perfectly comfortable and adjustable. I really do recommend this brace. I put the details in above so that those considering it would have reasonable expectations. If your symptoms are like mine or similar, I really do feel that this brace is worth a try, especially give the reasonable price. (After I wrote this review, I bought another brace so I'd have one for working out and one for the rest of the time.)

My lower back problems stem from aging, that is to say Lumbar disks are showing signs of age degeneration and authuritus is building up where the spine rests on my pelvis....not an uncommon condition considering my age of 77 years. Several times over the past 25 years I've pinched a nerve in my back while bending over to tie shoelaces or making sudden turns to one side or another ( again, not an uncommon thing) sending a disk banging into the spinal nerve bundle and horrible shooting pains in the back and down the legs . Used to be able to recover in a couple of days by laying flat with bent knees and doing some strengthening exercises. But lately with a few more years under my ample belt, recovery time is getting longer and longer. Doctor visits and pain pills help but this last session seemed to go on and on and on. The flimsy stretch braces didn't help much, what I needed was something much more substantial. Checked out the listing of back braces on Amazon and selected this version by Muller. Got what I needed. This thing really keeps my spine straight, preventing the disks from slipping around,irritating the nerve bundle and allowing the inflammation to subside on it's own. It really helped! Back pain is gone and I no longer need to wear it all the time. Will keep it handy as I know I'll need it again before too long. You can really cinch it up tight so that you sit up straight just like your mother wanted you to...way back when lower back pain was unknown and a thing of the future!! I'm a big guy; played defensive tackle and still about the same size....6'4" and 275 lbs. A bit heavier than when I was playing, of course, so I ordered the "Plus Size as my waist is now 44" to 46". The Plus Size fits perfectly. If I have any negative remarks to make it's that this belt is rather bulky, stiff and a bit heavy. Need to wear it over a T-shirt or something, not directly against the skin. I wouldn't recommend trying to wear it underneath fancy dress clothes, though. But wearing it with jeans and a sweat shirt when you need it, works just fine. It's bulk is why I rated it 4 instead of 5 stars. Nevertheless, I really like this brace and recommend it to anyone who has a problem with lower back pain, that and some therapy exercises will help...and sit up straight, no slouching; it's sloppy posture that leads to much of the lower back pain problems. Worked for me!!

I'm 74, 6-4, long time heart patient. 3-1-19, I weighed 245 and started on a diet/exercise program of my own. I eat a healthy Asian/Mediterranean diet but way too many sweets and chocolates. I also started walking 90 minutes every single day. After being down 20-25 lbs I found lots of new energy and feel like a 40 year old. I'm retired and started to work on many projects and chores around the house and backyard. I weighed 202 lbs this morning, 7-22-19, down 43 lbs. However, about four weeks ago I began to have increasing mid to lower back pain/discomfort. It's not the walking, but lots of stationary standing morning to evening. Never had serious bad issues, but have experienced this lower back fatigue in the past occasionally when I accompany my wife shopping and end up standing for hours while she shops for clothes, etc. I had used a back brace years ago that helped when I was lifting and pushing heavy equipment. Last week I spent considerable time online researching back braces. There are many with confusing model numbers. I finally settled on the Mueller 255. Note, the model 255 (Amazom, etc.) and model 6721 (Walgreens, etc.) from Mueller are the same exact brace sold thru different types of re-sellers. Both have a removable lumbar support. I received the brace about 1pm on Monday, immediately put it on for house/yard chores for about 5 hours and then again for my 90 minute walk and until I went to bed. It felt great right from the start and only some very slight discomfort as I began to walk, but went away in about 30 minutes. I wore it again today, Tuesday, all day for home chores and shopping. Once again I did my 90 minute early evening and this time felt zero discomfort. I seem so far to prefer to use the brace without the lumbar support Thank you Mueller! This back brace seems perfect for me. I now have a 34" waist and a very slightly paunchy stomach, about 36" (35" average). My photo of the back side of the brace was taken in a mirror and thus reversed, sorry. It is good to realize that the back brace does cover the lower stomach some. See the my last photo where I'm pointing to my belly button. This is very important as I read here lots of complaints about sizing issues. If one has a stomach that is several inches or more larger in circumference than the waist then that must be taken into consideration. I'm think the 50" max is overstated. Note my photo colors are a little off. The brace is definitely black. I'm very impressed with the obvious high quality of this brace, functionality and the great support it gives my back when needed due to my long days of standing, bending and lifting. Highly;y Recommended!

I do not normally do reviews but I just hace to with tjis back brace. If customers could see my many many orders of back braces, cushioned seat and back supports, ointments etc. you would then understand Why I’m Over the Moon about this brace. A neighbor of mine suggested that I try it( he owns one as well). I have a pain Doctor that prescribes heavy duty pain patches and pills. They do very little to help me. I normally (because I have been dealing with extreme back pain for over 25 years) eat standing up or use a bar stool. The pain that I get from “sitting” and then try getting up I tell out hiw psinful it is each and everytime. I Sh…it you not, while I’m wearing the brace I have absolutely NO PAIN! I cannot believe after all these years that I have found a solution to my back pain. I give this 20 STARS. I cannot wait until my neighbor comes back from holiday to Thank Him for the suggestion. If you are having back pain this is the brace to use. Thank you Mueller and my neighbor Russ.

The primary belt with the male, hook, velcrow is 2 inches wider than the belt it overlaps so the exposed male velcrow can snag your clothes. You need to wear it over an undershirt. Other than that I like it and it helps my lower back pain.

Injured my back in 1995 and one of those real tight fitting neoprene back braces was the best I've every owned and back then I wore a size 34 paints and in decent shape. After 15 years of back pain and I'm 62 now, the neoprene ones will not work due to having a big fat belly. That's what happens when you live with a back problem and exercise goes out the window. Tto me the sizing in the listing was a bit confusing, so I hope this helps. Today I'm a size 46/48 pants and where they tell you to ,I measure 56" . Ordered a Regular and it fit perfect. When you get it and go to pull it out of the heavy duty zip lock bag you note it's weight, then the size. It kinda reminds you a one of those WWE belts. When looking it over you realize this company was not playing around when they designed this back brace. It is well stitched and a quality product. While wearing it you can bend over to pick something off the floor but it is restrictive because it want to keep you in a upright position. I've decided to sell my house and it needs painting, so for a person who 3 1/2 months ago had a Decompression Laminectomy (spinal surgery) where the surgeon cut all my back muscles, took out a section of my spinal column out, scrapped my spine and ground out the hole in the hip for the spine. Well I'm doing WAY more than I should be, did my laundry room first and it about killed my back. So I ordered this brace. I still have pain while I'm working, but I was waking in the morning feeling like I was beat by a baseball bat, sense wearing the brace that has gone away, and also like I said I'm still feeling pain while working, but feel more stable on a ladder, and when I take a break and take the brace off my pain is dissipating more quickly. So I gave it a 4 on pain relief, but if you have a chronic condition, by now you should know no one thing is going to return you to normal. Gave it a 5 on support, and 4 on comfort, because you should know it's not going to be like your comfy like you comfy Pj"s. One last thing, I do like the way they designed the outer waist bands so that the both attach and work independently of each other. All n All if your looking at back braces I'm glad I made this purchase, and if your small framed I'd get the small/medium one, if your and old fat man like me the regular one works fine and can be tighten as loose or as tight as you want.
