  • The upgrade I've been waiting my whole life for
The media could not be loaded. First off, is it expensive? Yes. Is it worth the price? Also yes. Since I was young, I've been installing head units in my vehicles that allowed me to play music videos (sometimes forgetting to hook up the parking brake detection so it will play when you are driving). This thing turns your vehicle screen into an android tablet basically, and it works flawlessly. You can have Google maps running split screen while watching a YouTube video, or stream HBO or Netflix if you're so inclined. Is it safe? Probably not, but finally, freedom!! The options are limitless, anything in the Google Play Store is now at your fingertips. I also was able to hook up a super cheap e-sim cellular data plan using an e-sim adapter (9esim or 5ber work well) and the 4g works perfectly in the US. It boots up quickly and I haven't run into any issues thus far (make sure to update the firmware to the latest version using the built-in update app). My only minor complaint is that the touch/drag input is a bit laggy (see video), but it's a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things. If you've ever wanted to customize your vehicle display to your heart's content, this is it. They've done it. Thank you to the Korean Mgears team behind this product. It's a game changer. ... show more

  • Edit Review: A lot of potential but need some work.
Edit 5/20/25 I have to edit my review from 5 stars to 3. I am keeping my original review posted so you can see how my initial praise went away. After messing with this for a couple of weeks, here are some glaring problems I have discovered. 1 - Tidal, as of right now (and as far as I can tell won't ever) work with this device. You will encounter a message saying "You Have Been Blocked". The message also states the device appears to be a robot, javascript disabled or robot on the IP. I don't know if there is some kind of script running on this device that Tidal doesn't like or some kind of VPN that's hidden it is using. There is something running on the stick that prevents it from letting you login. This is with the app and the website. Different browsers, different methods. Same results. Blocked. 2 - The device will get really hot. There is update that address this problem but it doesn't fully fixes it. The excess heat will cause the device to thermal throttle, making the performance drop. You can find information online (mostly on the Korean forums) with people observing this and complaining about it. There are posts mentioning people attaching cell phone coolers with rubber bands trying to keep it cool enough to work properly. This leads me to the next problem... 3 - AV Sync/Video/Streaming Music App will either be slow to respond or just won't work. You can press the icon to go to the home screen and it will take around 7 seconds to respond. I have experience this with some of the cheaper devices so I know what happens to thermal throttle apps. I did not expect to see this on one of the most expensive of AI Carplay devices. I have watch the temp increase for no reason at all. There is something running in the background that are causing some of these problems. Some of this is hardware (due to its cooling system) but I am convinced there is something software-wise that is causing Tidal not to work and the temp to skyrocket for no reason. I have 2 more weeks to decide if I want to figure this puzzle out or just get my money back. When it works (besides Tidal), it works very well. Quick boot up. Great image quality. Terrific audio passthrough (because it is not transmitting via Bluetooth / wifi direct protocols like similar devices. Hopefully, some of these things can be address via software updates. You don't have to believe me. Make sure you have a good translation app installed or chrome and look up cafe.naver.com Mgear. I do still believe this can be a great device. It just isn't great at the moment. It will be nice if support would address or respond to some of these issues but they rarely answer questions on their reddit group. A little more on the naver site. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So far it isn't that bad. This first thing I have to applaud the manufacturer on is the presentation. It looks like you bought a premium product. From the initial setup to the included extra USB cables. Very professional. Feels like they spent some time getting this out to market. Especially compared to a lot of the other similar devices. This will be my fifth one. The setup is way different in comparison to other Android/Carplay AI types devices. This is more like a computer than a repackaged cell phone like others. I have no problem with the 4G LTE. I am using a US Mobile Dark Star SIM (which uses AT&T) and picks up high speed data without a single issue. I kind of like the other style interfaces in comparison to this because the icons are larger and has more of a car-like interface rather than this Chromebook appearance. It is fast booting. Options to work with more cars than other similar devices and the ability to smooth out the video in various streaming services. This depends on the car's display. I will try to remember to update this review to confirm how it performs on different makes/models. I am testing this on my Genesis G80 and a Kia EV6. A/V sync is awesome. I will say to restart the device after adjusting the sync. It will play worst after setting up and was fixed after a simple reboot. Only negatives are the price, the delivery time and some type of microphone error message that pops up on both my phone as well as the car display. I have yet to figure out what that issue is. I do feel that the current asking price is a bit steep for most people. Especially when there are cheaper ones that can perform decently well as this for half the price. I don't know if it is tariff related or what. Shipping took a long while as well. ... show more

  • Good overall AI box with a major flaw
This is a great Android AI box but has a flaw that is a deal breaker for my use case Starting with the positives, it is fast, has a great native launcher / user interface and many customization settings, including a mobile app. The main problem is that its mobile 4g connection when equipped with a SIM card does not work. I've tried SIMs from T-Mobile and ATT and they work well for only a few minutes after the device is started. It then goes into no service mode or falls back to EDGE network (!!). It only works again when you restart it. I've contacted their support and they have confirmed the issue and said it may or may not be solved via firmware update in the future. The device has lots of potential, but this flaw makes it not a great choice for my personal use case I am returning it. Edit 07Mar2025: Another bug to report: the audio from navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze fails to play through the car speakers. Customer support suggested switching to the device’s internal microphone instead of the car’s microphone as a fix. However, this workaround isn’t viable for me since I keep the Mstick enclosed in a car console organizer. Essentially, I’m forced to choose between having no microphone or no audio output for navigation, which completely defeats the device’s intended purpose. For context, I have it installed in a fairly standard Ford Explorer. Edit 12-Jul-2025: the latest firmware fixes the LTE dropping and it now stays connected to LTE. Found also a workaround for the audio issue reportes above by fiddling with the stick settings. I am boosting my review to 4 stars as it's been working well now. ... show more
