I purchased the B450 Gaming Plus ATX motherboard for my recent budget build. The motherboard came is an attractive and secure box with all the hardware required for installation. Note that I purchased the ATX version so I did not have any issues with CPU cooler installation like others have stated with the mAtx boards. As you can see in the pictures, I have a fairly large cooler attached to the board without issue or interference from neighboring components (Ignore the cable routing, was not done routing when this picture was taken). This board states it is compatible with Ryzen 3 series CPU's out of the box, I can verify this as my Ryzen 5 3600 booted up without issue and no driver updates were needed. The locations for the ports on the board are fairly well thought out, the only thing I would like to see is more fan headers but luckily my cooling fans also had a plug to directly wire to the power supply. Downside to this is you lose fan control but that is not an issue for me as my fans are static rpm. Cons: The bios boot time for this board is extremely slow. I would guess about 10-15 seconds for the board to post and boot the computer. While not a deal breaker it is definitely an annoyance. Good news is that MSI has addressed this and released an updated firmware that resolves this issue. I would recommend this motherboard for budget builds or PC builders that do not care for all the flashy RGB and RGB controller components. This has been installed for over three months of daily use and I have not had one issue with this motherboard. You will notice in the pictures there is an RTX 2060 GPU, unfortunately two weeks after purchase this card was freezing and failing. I made the switch to a RX 5700 and do not regret that decision one bit. This motherboard performed well above expectations in all tests that I have completed. I upgraded to this motherboard after purchasing a Ryzen 5 3600 and, man, does this board work incredibly well. This board was recommended to me by a large Youtube channel and I think he knows his stuff. PROS: 1. Easiest installation ever. The motherboard instructions are great for any first time builders, or you can watch many of the MSI sponsored build guides on Youtube. 2. This motherboard came Ryzen 3000 ready out of the box, and for only $5 more than a non-max version, it's very much worth it, and it even comes with a Bios flashback button anyways. 3. Plenty of fan headers; would be very hard to run out of space for fan headers. 4. Pre-marked "No-standoff" zones on the motherboard. These spaces do not have places for standoffs and I appreciate that they marked them so you don't stab your motherboard with standoffs. They've managed to save space by doing this to allow more features on the board as well. 5. Plain old looks. No fancy LEDs but I don't need that. Very well put together and it's aesthetically pleasing to me. 6. Extremely simple software and BIOS. Software was super easy to navigate for drivers, and the BIOS was easy to use. OC'd my RAM very quickly and with no issues. CONS: 1. Nothing much besides the motherboard seems to be slightly bigger than other full ATX boards. Just make sure you have good case clearance since mine was close, but fit fine in an mATX case. - Buy this board if you have the $100 for it, MSI has great customer support, easy software, and sturdy boards.

This is the second MSI motherboard I've used (previously an FM2-A75MA-E35 that still works flawlessly 7 years later). Once again, MSI has nailed it. Installation was a breeze and the board is well-labeled. The manual is consice and easy to follow. For me, this board was very nearly plug and play. The BIOS is user friendly and similar in design to my old FM2 board (meaning they got a good design years ago and have only needed to make minor changes) which made this upgrade significantly easier. Using the MSI Live Update tool made updating drivers quick and simple. I have not had to use them in anger but the EZ Debug LEDs are a great troubleshooting feature. This board has 4 case fan plugs which is a major step up from my old board's 1 case fan plug (this resulted in me removing my old front panel fan controller and savings tons of wiring headache). Setting the fan schedules in BIOS was intuitive and provided a few options for fan management. The one downside was using MSI Command Center for fan management; the profiles never seemed to remain after a reboot. This was easily fixed setting the values within the BIOS instead. The SATA ports are located in a manner such that they can all be used. My old FM2 board would have at least two ports blocked with a moderately sized graphics card. With this board, no issues. I don't yet have an m.2 drive so I can't comment on that. Some other reviews have mentioned issues with other components fitting (e.g. RAM or case fans) but I've had no issues in a HAF 912 with a 200mm top exhaust fan and a 120mm rear exhaust fan. The AMD cooler fits perfectly with no interference. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with this board.

Let me start off by saying that I hold MSI in very high regard. Their boards have you to do me wrong… that said I wish they would stop trying to over hype features. They advertise this board as having premium audio built in but it only premium if you compare it to a sound card from the mid 90s. The onboard audio has week and in detailed output. Do yourself a favor and use one of the ample amount on PCIE x1 slots on this and get a better sound card. My Audigy Fx V2 card blows the onboard Audio out of the water. The only othe complaint I have is the lack of an ARGB header. It has regular 12v RGB headers but the lack of an addressable(argb) header is truly baffling. Other mid range board have this header. This board is ideal for Ryzen 1000 and 2000. 3000 works just fine but you miss out on PCIE 4.0 support. Technically the board can support PCIE 4.0 but it’s locked out for b450 boards on the bios level. For 3000 and newer a b570 chipset or newer would be best. If your like me and want a Ryzen 3000 system on a budget just get this. PCIE 4.0 is faster but not much supports it at this point.

When I first ordered this board it was by mistake, I thought I selected the B450 Tomahawk Max. When I noticed I checked reviews and it seemed like i would still be ok. so the day comes and it finally gets here (thanks covid19) and i put my system together. I install windows and after it does its reboots I shut it down and jump in to the BIOS. I enable XMP (3600mhz CL16) and save settings. All giddy I wait for the computer to boot, click on the start button then BOOM! restart. I scratch my head wondering what happened. After toying around with things I ran it at stock, got it to boot and ran updates. Tried it again and same thing. After several attempts I gave up and orderd a 16gb Gskill Tridentz Neo 3600 kit. Eagerly waited for it to arrive, Installed it then enabled XMP. This time it would wait until I loaded a program and would crash. I manually tweaked timings to the same result. Tweaked the voltages.... Same result..... I'm fed up about to RMA the board when my brain started working........ I need to update the BIOS, so I download the freshest bios insert my usb flash drive and extract the file to it. I preceded to read over the directions several times to make sure I knew I wasn't missing anything (not my first BIOS update but every Bios is a little different)... Shut down the system and insert the flash drive, dower it on and enter the bios. I go to Mflash utility and it reboots to flash the Bios.. It loads and tells me to insert the USB. I tried every USB slot with no luck so I said screw it and exited and booted to windows. Staring at the screen the little voice in my head said to see how the USB is formatted. So i did and it was formatted ExtFAT, so I reformatted it NTFS put the file back on the drive and rebooted. Got into the Bios clicked on Mflash it loaded the utility and woohooo it was there. I flashed the Bios, and rebooted. Once windows loaded I ran 3d mark to make sure it wasn't still randomly crashing. Rebooted and went to Bios enabled 2nd XMP profile (new option) and saved and exited. Once windows loaded i ran 3d mark, and my far cry 5 bench mark and did not crash. I ran memtest all night with no errors so I was happy. So to any one looking to get this board I would say definitely worth the buy, but if you have any memory problems try updating the bios.

I want to share my experience as a user of an MSI product, I have been using it for a few years now and the truth is that the product as such is excellent, it has gone through different situations of use, /climate/removals/etc and continues to provide features and functionality like the first day I took it out of the box, it has everything indicated in its specifications: - Supports Ryzen 1000, 2000 and 3000 processors directly and 5000 after Bios update - Good performance at the level of heatsinks for its chipset. - Port for M.2 - 6 sata ports at 6 Gbps - 4 RAM slots with a maximum of 128 Gb at 4133MHz for the Ryzen 3000 series, with dual channel - USB 3.2 x 2 gen 1 - USB 3.2 x gen 2 - USB2.0 x 2 - 1 PS2 port - Bios flash button to update BIOS without the need for a processor in it. I was looking for a good motherboard that wasn't going to break the bank. After looking over the specs and reading reviews I felt this one had the features I was looking for at a good price and I wasn't disappointed. Looks great in my case, overclocks my processor and ram without any fuss and the BIOS while not the easiest to understand off the bat got the job done with ease. I'm still trying to figure out how to set the dram voltage manually and I'm not sure if it can be done but the Memory Try It! feature works great and did the voltage, speed and timings for me without having to mess around with them myself. I wish the BIOS was a little easier to understand from the start but after a bit of reading and some research it's not a problem now. I've always been an ASUS fan when it came to motherboards but I think this one has changed my mind. I don't plan on running a second graphics card so this board was by far the best choice. I recommend it and if I were to do another build as I often do for family members I would buy it again.
