  • Excellent Motherboard
I bought this motherboard round about a month ago, and it’s working great! I highly recommend it for anyone who needs a quality motherboard with good specs, easy installation, and ease of use. SPECS: This motherboard is a brand-new board using the LGA1151 socket, great for new 9 series Intel processors. The other specs are held in the page above, and I don’t feel like copying them here. It also has built in Ethernet, WiFi, and Bluetooth, all of which work flawlessly. Don’t buy a separate card if you get this motherboard. On-board communication between parts is fast enough that it will never be the bottleneck in your system. BUILD QUALITY: This motherboard is excellently built, with a nice, solid feel to it. I’ve handled boards before that feel like they’ll break in your hands, but this one felt solid and build well. There are of course some plastic pieces, but those felt nice as well, and looked good. The PCIe ports were reinforced and will hold even heavy graphics cards. INSTALLATION: Motherboards are never easy to install- if you’re looking for one here, you obviously understand that. This wasn’t worse than any I’ve done before, and it has nine holes to allow you to mount it solidly to the interior of your case. There is also a nice CD that comes along with it to install drivers and other utilities. This installer crashed three times before I could get everything and contains a bit of bloatware (that you can opt out of), but it installs drivers that Windows will install by itself and utilities that only gamers will want. AESTHETICS: This motherboard looks pretty nice. It’s black, but you can see that from the picture. One thing I didn’t realize until I plugged it in is that it has some LEDs on the bottom of it! They’re not in the most useful place, being on the back side of the board, but if you have a clear case, I’m sure it’s fine. This motherboard also supports RGB on many components and has a nice control panel for such that can be installed. BIOS: MSI put a lot of effort into their BIOS to make it look futuristic and appeal to gamers. You probably won’t need to use it much unless you’re into overclocking (although this can be done with their DragonCenter utility), but if you do have to, it looks pretty good, has tons more options that you’ll ever need, and is remarkably stable. I/O This motherboard has lots of ports out the back, many of which you won’t need because they’re on the back and supports lots of stuff for the front. The front maxes out at eight active USB ports, depending on the internal connectors. MISCELLANEOUS: I’ve had problems with motherboards not knowing how to wake up properly from sleep. This motherboard does not have that problem. I appreciate that. This board supports water cooling. Also, the dragons are cool. All in all, this is an excellent motherboard for anyone who needs a 9 series Intel CPU and excellent functionality. ... show more

  • Polished
I've been building computers for more than 20 years. This is the first motherboard in all that time that did exactly as advertized without having to fight it. Motherboard resources and onboard goodies worked out of the box on Win10, although I did update everything once it was running. The BIOS is UEFI, so mouse and keyboard work. Flashing the BIOS is simple, and you can keep backups of configs. The available tools allow for expert-level overclocking, or you can push a button to make safe performance boosts without a fuss. It took an i7-9700k to 4.9GHz with the MSI Dragon utility on easy mode. No reboots necessary. The Intel tuner was able to go above 5GHz with stable power; the electrical feeds on this thing are excellent. I'm using air cooling so I didn't push it further than that, but the board has a header for a coolant pump and a third 12v CPU power socket for the ambitious. It took my Ballistix DDR4-3600 ram without a hitch. You'll need to get into the BIOS to turn on XMP, but once enabled it ran smooth and solid at the advertized speed. It's not even on the QVL (list of confirmed compatible parts). (RAM model is BLE2K8G4D36BEEAK) The only hitch I ran into is that the test header has exactly the same pin arrangement as the front-panel header and happens to be right where the manual says the front-panel pins should be. It took a little bit to notice that (after I ruled out other issues like a PSU problem.) It supports way more IO than most people will need. Some of the SATA ports aren't usable if you have an M.2 drive, so if you want to build a massive storage box then get a NAS. It was worth spending extra on this over the low end of the Z390 options. ... show more

  • Ran into some issues..but is working fine since Oct of 2018
When I first purchased this product it was DOA. Amazon sent a replacement immediately. It was disheartening at first, but I was glad to get the replacement. Following this, I have had several issues with the motherboard. I am an avid computer nerd with tons of experience building PC's. When I first installed this board it took quite sometime to get Mystic Lights working. There are BIOS update's and Software Version match ups that need to be aligned in order to get this to function properly. Ultimately I ended up using a 3rd party RGB LED setup, but mystic light does work despite the many hours I had to put into it to function properly. Following this, fast forward to these days, now I am having Audio Driver issues. I don't know if it is a problem with windows v1909 or what, but no longer is any of my onboard audio ports being detected. Realtek/MSI is now working the Nahimic or something and it's an audio disaster. I am going on two days with no on board audio. I have no issues with USB installed head phones, but head phone jacks, audio jacks, mic jacks are no longer being detected with the latest driver releases. I am still troubleshooting this. I always opt for MSI for everything, from monitors to GPU's and this has been the most troublesome thing I have ever experienced with MSI so far. If I cannot get this to work I will be really saddened with MSI, so I will post if I do get audio back. This is my 5th personal MSI build and the most troublesome. I will be in contact with MSI if MS10 v1909 and Nahimic drivers do not work. So in all, Mystic Light only works with Certain BIOS versions and Mystic Light Version can take time to setup properly with appropriate BIOS version. New audio drivers with Nahimic is a huge disappointment and not user friendly. (Also at the time of this review not functioning at all) Outside of these two issues, audio was working fine prior to the new Nahimic Audio Driver Implementation. Everything seems to work as presented, all in all this is an excellent Mobo. Just make sure you are willing to put some time into troubleshooting and setting things up. This is MoBo is not very user friendly. I would definitely recommend this product to all MSI fan boys like myself. My last gripe is MSI Live Update | MSI, please fix this application. Despite registering and downloading updates it is really buggy software in general. ... show more
