  • Great MotherBoard & Tips post-install
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
Works like a dream so far. Install of the board and components onto the board was very easy. After I swapped out my old motherboard with this one I was able to boot into the windows os that was previously installed on my SSD. After confirming that all the hardware was working correctly I attempted a clean install of Windows OS. This process did not complete cleanly. After a lot of troubleshooting and making sure all the hardware was still working I determined that the problem was an outdated bios firmware. Also, after the clean install was successful I had issues with the wifi not restarting appropriately after the desktop went to sleep and I turned it back on. After updating the drivers to the latest version on the MSI website this issue was resolved as well. Just posting this here in case anyone runs into a similar issue so they can benefit from my experience. ... show more

  • Ballin on a Budget
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
★★★★★ **Rock-solid AM5 board that just works** Picked up the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk to pair with my X3D chip and it's been a fantastic match. Exactly what I want from a mobo — reliable, well-built, and it gets out of the way so I can just game. The build quality feels premium without the crazy price tag of the high-end boards. VRMs stay cool even under load, so no throttling worries when the CPU is going full tilt. Solid heatsinks all around and the whole thing just feels sturdy when you're handling it during the build. Connectivity is where this thing shines. USB4 support, plenty of USB ports on the back, Wi-Fi that actually holds a stable connection, and 2.5G LAN for wired. Got all my drives and peripherals hooked up with room to spare. The M.2 slots with tool-less installation are a small thing but SO nice — no tiny screws to drop and lose. BIOS is clean and easy to navigate. Enabling EXPO for my RAM was one click, BIOS flashback made updating painless, and it posted first try with zero drama. If you've ever fought with a finicky board you'll appreciate how smooth this was. Layout is sensible, the EZ Debug LEDs are handy if anything goes sideways, and it looks clean in the case without being obnoxious about RGB. Great board at a great price. If you're building on AM5 and want something dependable that won't nickel-and-dime you on features, the Tomahawk is an easy recommendation. Zero complaints so far. ... show more

  • Outstanding board for AMD overclocking — BIOS is a game-changer!
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
This MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi is built for pushing AMD CPUs to the max right out of the box. Paired with my Ryzen 9 9900X and water cooling, it was hitting 95°C under load without even manual overclocking — way too hot for my taste. I dialed it back by limiting voltage and a few other tweaks, and now temps jump to 75°C when the CPU kicks in but stay stable there. My system feels much more reliable now. The BIOS is hands-down the best I've ever seen — super intuitive, bomb-proof, and updates are a breeze. Love the 4 M.2 SSD slots with heatsinks and tons of USB ports for everything. Minor gripes: no native 5.1 audio and only a couple SATA ports for HDDs (had to add a PCIe card with 6 SATA). But overall, killer board for high-end AMD builds — highly recommend! ... show more

  • Feature-Rich, High-Performance, Great Value Motherboard for VR, Streaming & Content Creation
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
I chose the MSI MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI specifically for my VR content creation, streaming, and home network PC, and it has exceeded my expectations. This is my fourth AMD build since 2021 & this board feels like a high-end motherboard, yet it’s available for under $300, which is incredible given the features it packs. Why I Picked This Board: 🔹 Lower PCIe 16x4 Lane for My Capture Card – The single-chipset controller allows for a lower latency for my Elgato 4K Pro, whereas the X870E version routes through two lane controllers, making this board the better choice for my streaming needs. 🔹 LED Debug Code – Typically found on $500+ X670E motherboards, this sub-$300 board includes an LED debug display, making troubleshooting and system monitoring far easier. The last thing I want to do is spend hours troubleshooting. 🔹 Clear CMOS & BIOS Flashback – Essential for Tweaking – Having both Clear CMOS and BIOS Flashback buttons on the rear I/O was a must-have for me. These features make updating or troubleshooting easy-peasy. Performance & Features: ✅ Handles High-End Hardware – Running a Ryzen 9 7950X, 2x16GB DDR5 6000 CL30, Arctic Liquid Freezer III 420mm, RM750X PSU, and an Inland Performance Plus 2TB NVMe SSD, this motherboard delivers rock-solid performance for streaming, video editing, content creation & everyday workloads. ✅ EZ M.2 Heatsink – Installing my NVMe SSD was incredibly easy thanks to the tool free EZ M.2 heatsink, which securely locks the drive in place. A small quality-of-life feature that is greatly appreciated. ✅ Networking – 5G LAN and a single-chipset design ensure fast and reliable connectivity, perfect for my home network & high quality live streaming. ✅ USB 4 – Having USB 4 support is a plus, especially since I plan to use this for many years to come. With new VR headsets and accessories launching constantly, it's just a matter of time before it becomes a necessity. This ensures maximum compatibility for next-gen devices. ✅ No RGB – The lack of onboard RGB was actually a positive for me, as I built a No-RGB system with the Fractal North XL for a clean, minimalist look. Final Thoughts: I can’t believe how feature-rich this motherboard is for the price. It delivers high-end performance, premium features, and all for under $300. Whether you're a content creator, top 1% streamer, or power user, the X870 TOMAHAWK is hands down one of the best bang-for-your-buck AM5 motherboards available. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Good for high end rigs
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
I recently upgraded to the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi Gaming Motherboard for my new gaming rig, and overall, I’m quite impressed. This motherboard supports the latest AMD Ryzen 7000, 8000, and 9000 series processors, and it handles them effortlessly. The support for DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0 is a huge plus, ensuring my system is future-proof and ready for high-performance gaming and productivity tasks. The inclusion of M.2 Gen5 slots, SATA 6Gb/s, and USB 40Gbps ports makes it incredibly versatile for storage and peripheral options. The performance is top-notch, and I haven’t noticed any bottlenecks in my demanding applications or games. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity are fantastic, providing super-fast wireless connections with no noticeable drops or lag. Another highlight is the 5Gbps LAN, which delivers fast and reliable wired networking. The HDMI/DP outputs are handy for those who might want to use this motherboard for content creation or multi-monitor setups. My only gripe, and why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is the size. It's a bit on the larger side for those with smaller PC cases, so double-check your case compatibility before buying. Overall, the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk is a beast of a motherboard with great features, performance, and connectivity. It’s a solid choice for anyone looking to build a high-end gaming or workstation PC. ... show more

  • You will be beta testing a motherboard
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
UPDATE: I ended up sending a ticket to MSI to see if they could fix the WiFi issue, after some back and forth, their solution was to buy a WiFi extended. The "fix" comes after them knowing my computer is less than 20 feet from the router. I returned it after that message and bought a Gigabyte x870 Elite WiFi 7. Haven't had a single issue with it since. Used to use MSI but after that motherboard I'll be returning to other brands that don't sell garbage. Where to start, I have built multiple computers and for the most part, don't have many issues. However, with this motherboard it has been nothing BUT issues. I was drawn towards this one because of its high reviews and MSI generally has a good name. However, I cannot recommend this motherboard any less. To begin off, this motherboard takes on average 1 minute to boot past the MSI logo. This is with OC RAM, some people have had better luck with out of the box RAM. This product should truthfully be labeled as "beta testing" and should not have a price tag of 300 dollars. Currently experienced bugs/issues: -EZ Debug constantly showing code 08 - "System Agent initialization after microcode loading" from MSI forums, this is a known issue that can only be solved by downloading a beta version BIOS update. Which one user stated that they lost all USB 2.0 connections after installing this -Motherboard does not detect some RGB components after waking up from a sleep mode. For instance the fans will still function normally but the LED's will not come back on. OpenRGB will not detect the components after the computer has been woken up from sleep. To fix this issue, you must restart the computer and make sure it doesn't go to sleep. -WiFi, it claims "WiFi 7 has ultimate low latency" I just upgraded this motherboard and now I am getting consistent packet drops, nearly every 2 - 3 minutes the ping will spike to 2000+ then immediately drop down to 20-40. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or a driver issue, doesn't matter either way. Having a disconnection like this is very disruptive for gaming. I have not been able to try ethernet cable, so I can't say if that does or does not work. -When this board comes in, it does not come with the wifi drivers, therefore you must already have a device that can download the driver then transfer it to a usb driver to install -Over 1 minute boot up times from the press of the power button -MSI bloatware known as MSI center, also it will try and install Norton Antivirus - another baffling decision from MSI -The wifi connection is not the industry standard RP-SMA, female to male connection. It is a plug-in type with the option to install adapters. If you want to use a wifi antenna that isn't the one that comes in a box, you will need to buy adapters. Most aftermarket on amazon use the RP-SMA female to male. In the box with the motherboard there is an incentive to review this motherboard, that is probably why there are so many 5 star reviews. This is in no way a good gaming motherboard, maybe I just got a bad board, but with all the issues above, I will be promptly returning this and buying something that doesn't make me feel like I work at a QA department. I did not buy a motherboard so I could tinker with the BIOS settings and installing/repairing drivers. ... show more

  • Awesome mobo, easy configuration.
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
This was great out of the box, I did end up flashing the bios but it was super easy. The cooling curve I have it on works great, the whole system runs pretty quiet and efficient. Everything worked and setup was a breeze.

  • MSI X870 Tomahawk
Style: MAG X870 TOMAHAWK WIFI
I recently upgraded to the MSI X870 Tomahawk motherboard and I'm really impressed. The power delivery and cooling system are top-notch, with extended heatsinks and quality thermal pads that keep everything stable even during heavy gaming or multitasking. I picked the X870 Tomahawk because it has a great reputation and got excellent reviews. It offered the right mix of performance, build quality, and features at a price that made sense. This motherboard has definitely met my needs and even surpassed my expectations. The BIOS is easy to use, and it handles overclocking really well. I've pushed my CPU and RAM further than I expected. Some of the main strengths are its strong power delivery system, lots of connectivity options, and solid build. I love having multiple M.2 slots and USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports. The only minor issue I’ve noticed is that the placement of some SATA ports can be a bit tight if you're using larger GPUs. Overall, the MSI X870 Tomahawk is a fantastic choice if you're building or upgrading your PC. It delivers great performance and reliability, and I highly recommend it. ... show more
