Mounted the light outside and it worked well. After a hard (but not unusually hard rain) the light stopped coming on. When I removed the light to check it I found that the insides were filled with water and a lot of rust. Light is now unusable. Would have thought that a light designed for outdoors would stand up to rain. In fairness, I should say that I have four of the single Mr Beam lights (have had for a few years) and they have always worked, rain or shine. ... show more

    • I didn't want to return this product because the LED lamps are truly bright . . .

But the problem is the motion-detector sensor. The problem is the narrow range of the sensor, and also its extremely short range. The sensor will only trigger the LED lamp if a body in motion is within 3' of the sensor. Even sometimes if I put my hand over the sensor, it won't activate the light. I do understand that Mr Beams is pushing the envelope of retail LED product. I wish them luck. In my case, mounting these lamps in a stairwell simply didn't work. Maybe I should have tested the sensors with Andre the Giant :) ... show more

    • GREAT LIGHTS for part of our driveway with many pluses over Floods

We purchase several times of lights (all battery operated) to put in our long driveway to cover different spots needing different areas of coverage. As battery operated lights go and considering the price, this was my favorite of the battery operated ones. We like our Solar ones best and they cost much less, but those can't go in our driveway because it has a long 50' cover over it. These lights were easy to install, and work like a champ. What we really like about this particular model is 1) the area of coverage AND 2) the fact that you can easily move each side of the light independently of the other to shine the side lights in different directions and angles. The sensor is stationary in the middle. You just need to figure out for your own situation just how wide an angle of motion it will detect. For us, we installed it about 10' high and about 12-15' in from the street side of the driveway so it wouldn't go off with passing cars. The lower the height -- the lower the angle of motion detection. The lights are BRIGHT but not as bright or blinding as the floodlights on our back door, and for us, that's a good thing because of how we use them. We have them pointed such that they light up the entire area around my husbands car so when he gets home at night, the lights go off when he first pulls in the drive and before he gets out of the car. In our drive, that's important as we've had some crime here in driveways without proper lighting with thieves laying in wait by bushes along driveways. Their brightness is just right and he can clearly see all around the car and along the driveway when he gets out. We installed these quite a while ago and the batteries still work fine (6 mos or so). They only go off when there is motion and at the height we have them, we haven't had a problem with them going off from animals at night. We would buy these again. ... show more

    • 2 Units Failed in Less Than 2 Years

I purchase 2 of these so called weatherproof Security Lights. After a year and a half one of the units stopped working. I assumed it was that the battery life was done. The second unit quit working about 2 months later. When opening these units to replace the batteries, about 2 ounces of water poured out of both units. After cleaning and drying out both units and putting new batteries in each, neither unit worked. So much for being weatherproof. I had both units mounted about 13 feet up the trunk of pine trees. I never was satisfied about the dim light the these security light emitted. Needless to say, I will look to a different manufacturer for replacement lights. ... show more

Wanted to add porch and driveway lights without wiring. A pair of these MB3000's seem the perfect idea. In terms of build quality and light output, I'm very happy. The lights are adjustable and the beam is wide and quite bright. I have no doubt that the 500 lumens claim with fresh batteries is as advertised. However, the sensor range is appallingly short and, especially so, given it's advertised "up to" range. At best, it's 6-8 feet. I don't know whether the rated distance is accurate and my two lights are defective or if you have to be on fire for it to turn on from 30 feet. The top rated review on Amazon verifies the 30 foot range, but from my experience, it's much much less. When you see an "up to" claim, you know you aren't going to get that, but you'd expect to see at least half the range. The range is marginally adequate for my porch application, but in order to turn on the one shining on the driveway that's on a tree 10 feet off the edge, you'd have to walk into the yard to get it to turn on and by the time you get back to the driveway, the light will have turned off. Well, I guess that's why they are Mr. Beams, not Mr. Sensor. Update 12/17/17. When I bought these in late summer, I was disappointed in the range...as I noted in my initial review. As temperatures have started falling, however, the range has improved dramatically. Not sure we're up to 30 feet, but the range in cool/cold weather is definitely acceptable. Since the sensor detects temperature differences, it makes sense it would be better in cooler weather. For now, I am changing my rating from 3 to 4 stars. As we go into the spring, I'll check in again to see at what temperature the range starts to decline again...hopefully it won't. ... show more
