There are a lot of mixed reviews out there, but I thought this camera and monitor screen meet my needs. Super easy to set up, just plug it in to the power outlet and wait a sec for handheld monitor to find the camera. I used the monitor in hand while I found the perfect camera position for keeping an eye on baby. I have a 2 story home with a finished basement and was looking for a way to keep an eye on baby sleeping upstairs while I'm down on main floor in the kitchen or down the basement watching a movie. I have no problem with connection of the handheld monitor to the camera throughout my home. The monitor has an antenna that folds up from the back, I find that I need that up to get rid of interference or backfeed noise. The camera microphone is sensative enough for you to hear the baby breathing on the monitor and sometimes sounds from other rooms get picked up and echoed through. At night, I turn the volume off because it is hard to sleep listening to all the baby noises. The camera has night vision so you can see the baby just fine, but know that by definition - night vision is black and white. The only way you'd get color picture at night is if you shined a light on your baby. The monitor has a limited battery, which i usually just leave plugged in or know I've only got a few hours unplugged. All and all, I think this is a great set for single camera use, it has the option to expand to multiple cameras but the monitor only lets you see one camera at a time. Have to click into the menu to choose the camera you want to see so if you were watching two kids you'd have switch back and forth.

Update: below is a review I wrote for the MPB33, Motorola contacted me and allowed me to return the 33, and replaced it with the 36S. I like the 36S, the pan & zoom control from the parent unit is nice, and there are no issues with hissing or hiccuping. The cons now: the battery dies pretty quickly. I leave the charging cord at my nightstand and the parent unit is plugged in all night long. I take it off the plug in the AM and it operates for about an hour off the plug. It loses at least 1, if not 2 bars of power in just an hour. When my daughter goes to bed at night and the unit is off the charger for a few hours, like right now, I am down to 1 bar. Why? I click on the image every so often, but I don't leave it on for more than a few seconds. Why does it have to turn on when you plug the parent unit into the charging cord? Kudos for Motorola for reaching out to me to replace my defective unit, but I am still convinced that companies that make baby equipment don't test their products on people with babies! It's 2016 and humans have landed a rocket on a comet, why are we still stuck with baby monitors that hiss, hiccup, and are all-around aggravating? Pros: The camera can be adjusted (by hand) up & down and side to side to achieve the right view is great. The image quality is very nice, especially in daylight, it's quite beautiful. That's about it! I like the zoom in function of the camera, too, but the baby's face has to be in juuuust the right spot in the crib, or else you get a close-up of a zipper or onesie logo. Cons: You have to either press the on button several times or hold it for 5-10 seconds to turn on, and that's when the buzzing and beeping starts. The buzz is constant, the beeping goes away once the screen is turned off. These sounds do not decrease in volume even if you turn the volume of the unit down. In fact, it often times will jump to a louder beep and buzz, then fall back down to the normal level. Once you get past the beeping and buzzing there is the matter of the screen being on and off. You don't have to have the image of the baby on the monitor screen all of the time, and you'll save battery power, of course, by leaving the screen dark except to check in on the sleeping kiddo. When you do want to check in, however, an annoying red image appears across the screen, to tell you that the image will continue for 5 minutes. This warning disappears eventually, but I don't want it there in the first place! I am just peeking in, and don't need a giant warning about the time. I don't want the talk function, it's scares the kid, in my opinion, and I have accidentally pressed the button once or twice, which could seriously disturb my sleeping bambina. I also don't see a need for a music function. Every other baby product makes music, I swear I've seen a wipe dispenser that played a tune!?!?! Really, does the manufacturer need to waste the space, and increase the cost of the unit, by including the music? Seems totally unnecessary, but I don't think you can buy a monitor without it. Maybe I'm the one Mom who feels this way... All in all the monitor does its job, but it is clumsy at best. If you normally sleep with a sound machine then pack away the canned rainforest and enjoy the white noise of this Motorola!

I've owned this monitor since July 2015 and have very few issues with it. I purchased the parent unit with two cameras as I have two children in separate rooms. I have very few complaints about the cameras or parent unit. The sound quality is great, with multiple settings. Even the quietest setting is still loud enough to hear while sleeping. The cameras in the rooms pick up even the quietest of sounds (such as a child sniffing in their sleep or even rolling over!). The parent unit allows you to choose two options when using multiple cameras: a screen-in-screen, which provides visual of both rooms (or however many cameras are in use), but sound to only one room. The other option is a cycle of video and sound between rooms, which occurs about every seven seconds by my count. In the year I have owned it, the seven second cycle was never a problem. The infrared and regular imaging provides a fairly clear picture if you need to view your child, but I usually turn the video off at night unless I'm checking on a child. There are multiple brightness settings if you use it at night next to your bed so the video imaging doesn't keep you awake. The parent unit also allows you to choose lullabies to play in your child's room, but you will also hear it over the parent monitor. Both cameras can be mounted to a wall allowing a full view of the crib/bed. The power cords for the cameras and the parent units are long enough that they can reach your nearest outlet or even one slightly further away. The cameras are equipped with temperature monitoring, so you can tell how warm the room is (and you can choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit). If the room is too warm, the temperature will appear in red instead of blue. There is a built-in microphone so you can speak to your child in their room. This sound only goes to the camera selected, so it won't go into another child's room. This is very helpful when transitioning to a toddler bed and you have a little escape artist on your hands. I appreciate that the camera does not require a wireless connection through a home wifi system. The signal is through the parent unit and cameras only. The battery life of the parent unit is pretty great when unplugged. I use it for nap time and then the hours once my children are in bed until I go to bed (I always plug in at night), all unplugged. In total, the battery will usually last for about five hours when cycling between two rooms. The imaging will shut off after five minutes when the parent unit is unplugged, but you can switch it back on if you need to check on children. When the battery is almost spent, the parent unit will beep to alert you. This beep does not extend to the cameras. If you ever lose signal, the parent unit will also beep then. The sound remains the same when the video imaging is off. The range on the monitor is strong enough to work anywhere in your home, but not too far if you step outside of your home. But to sit out on your patio/deck in the Spring/Summer once the kids go to bed, it will work fine. I have had a few instances where the monitor shut off or stopped cycling at night, but that has happened maybe three times since I purchased the unit. I've chalked it up to a very, very rare fluke. Overall, I've been very satisfied with this mentoring system. So satisfied, in fact, that I'll be purchasing a third camera to combine with the unit when my next child is born.

This is a decent monitor. I like all the features like the remote swivel cameras and the two way talk. I have a full signal from all over my house and I've noticed the picture is choppy, kind of like when you try and watch TV and there's interference from a bad connection. It's very VERY annoying. I would expect this if I didn't have a full signal from the cameras, but I do. We don't have any steel beams or tons of metal in our house either. So I don't really think its coming from our house and has to do with the cameras. Granted, when the kids are sleeping, its no big deal because they aren't moving. But when I've put them down for nap and it takes them a while to fall asleep, they do move around a lot. My last video monitor was no where near as nice and advanced as this one and even it had a more fluid picture. There are buttons on either side of the parent unit for controlling things like volume, which camera you are viewing, the two way talk, and the controls for swiveling the camera. It would have been immensely helpful if these buttons were backlit. In the middle of the night when my 8 week old wakes up to eat (he sleeps in his crib in his room), I like to lower the volume so it doesn't disturb my husband while I am in there. Since I can't see the buttons, I have to turn on the flashlight on my phone, so I can navigate the right buttons. I suppose this will improve with time as I get more used to using this monitor, but it's still super annoying. Finally, and maybe this is just me not understanding but it seems like the battery life on this thing is really poor. Last night we used just one of the cameras ( I got the other one set up today). This morning when I went downstairs, I had the parent monitor with me. It had been plugged in all night and I had it unplugged with me for maybe 20 minutes. It went down by 1 bar of battery life. I feel like for 20 minutes, that that is a lot. When I just set up the second camera, I had the parent unit with me obviously so I could place the camera in the right spot on the wall. (it had been plugged in all day long up until this point) I had it unplugged for about 45 minutes and it used up 2 bars of battery. Its been plugged in now for 15 minutes and is still charging! I did follow the instructions and charged it for 16 hours before using it... actually it was more like 24 hours, so it's not that it didn't get a proper charge before we set it up.

I picked out this baby monitor because I was looking for a video monitor with mutie cameras. This one met my criteria. The sound quality on this monitor is excellent. I can hear every sigh or noise that my baby makes. I love that the camera is adjustable so I can look around the room when I'm not in it. There is also volume control which is a standard feature, but has a great range. I would buy this monitor again, but there are some cons that prospective buyers should be aware of. The range is somewhat limited. If the babies are in my bedroom which is on one side of my house, and I go to the other end of my house, then it starts to cut out. If I take one step out my front door (which I was doing to grab something from my car), then it stops working. I do have a larger home and don't really often run into this problem. The other drawback is that the battery will say it is fully charged and then drop suddenly to no charge. It also does not stay charged for long. I have to keep it plugged in when not in use.

A lot of research went into this purchase. This article[...] was a huge help in identifying features and pitfalls of most baby monitors. You want peace of mind when buying something like this and you want to be sure that you can return it if it doesn't work. With every baby monitor, each person's experience is going to be different, based the layout of their home, distance between crib and monitoring station, interfering devices, etc. In general, however, better products will have mostly positive reviews. For this particular unit, it helped that Amazon had a Lighting Deal , even though I wasn't completely convinced that I needed to spend more than $150. Once it arrived, it sat in the box for a couple of days as other baby things took priority around the house. Eventually, our need to keep an eye on baby from the living room made me crack open the box and set it up. Setup was a breeze. There were two units in the box - one camera and one monitor. The monitor was already paired with the camera, so all I had to do was plug the camera into a power outlet and then turn on the camera. The instruction manual said to charge the monitor for about 16 hours before use, but who really waits that long to use a device once the box is opened? That's half a star dinged. The camera angles available are fairly limited. The camera rotates up-and-down but even rotated all the way down, we still could not see the crib when the monitor was placed on top of the dresser. Multiple thick books stacked under the camera didn't help either. The crib (actually a co-sleeper) had to be moved almost to the foot of the bed in order to see baby. Before going to bed each night, the crib needs to be moved back up to the head of the bed. Another half star dinged. Overall, though, the feature set of this unit are pretty good. The microphone picks up a great deal of sound, so every noise the baby makes is audible. The camera can be zoomed in to 2X, but it's not a continuous zoom like on a digital camera - there are only two choices, either 1X or 2X, and the zoom is digital, not optical. Night vision is pretty good. Even with all the lights off, we are able to see baby clearly. Picture quality is definitely not HD, so we sometimes have to look very closely in order to tell if baby is awake or asleep. The unit comes with two-way communication so you can hear baby and also talk to baby. Talking to baby means having to keep a button pressed on the monitor, like a walkie-talkie. There are five built-in lullabies that you can play for baby. You cannot add additional lullabies. One cool thing is that you can turn on the monitor, start a lullaby and then power off the monitor, but the lullaby will continue to play. The monitor would need to be turned on again in order to stop the lullaby but if the monitor died because the battery ran out, the lullaby could continue to soothe baby to sleep. Another nice feature is that the monitor displays the room temperature, so you can make sure baby is comfortable. Didn't think of looking for this in a baby monitor but comes in useful during colder times of year. Bottom line... I'm very happy with this purchase but considering the price, it should perhaps have come with some additional features like sound activated monitoring, adjustable sensitivity, more camera angles, pan, optical zoom, to name a few. UPDATE MAY 2015: So, the monitor base unit stopped charging suddenly. You plug in the cord, wait for the battery charging indicator to start flashing, but nothing happens. Called Motorola Support. They want the unit shipped back to them before they ship out a replacement. They did assure me that it would be a new unit, not a refurb. What are we supposed to do in the meantime, though? Being without a baby monitor was not an option, so we had to "buy" one from W**Ma** and return it later. Anyway, the replacement process was easy to understand, if rather inconvenient. They emailed me a return shipping label, USPS postage pre-paid. I just had to go drop off the package at the post office. About a week later, the replacement unit arrived, hooked it up, paired with the camera and we were back in business. Lost one star (down from four to three) for this mishap. UPDATE APRIL 2016: The replacement monitor has now stopped charging too. Actually, it charges only intermittently and you have to jiggle the plug in the port in order for it to charge. Once you put it down, the plug moves again and the unit stops charging. Reading through a bunch of newer reviews, this seems to be a huge problem, which didn't seem to be the case when I first bought this monitor. BUYER BEWARE. Charging seems to be a major issue. I'd stay away from this. Initially, Motorola wanted to charge me $90 for out-of-warranty services. Needless to say, I balked and the agent quickly (without any efforts from me) offered to send another replacement at no charge. It almost seems like they are aware that this is a major quality issue for them. I have to pay to ship the item to them, call them with a tracking#, then they will ship out the replacement. If I'd wanted the advance replacement option, they would have placed a $150 hold on my card, shipped me a replacement first, then I'd have to return the defective unit within 28 days. The fact that two monitors have had the same issue after less than one year of use is extremely disappointing. Lost one more star (down from three to two). At this rate, will have to ask Amazon for a negative star option soon.

My friend recommended this video monitor and I was a bit reluctant to spend this much on one, but I am so glad I did! I just had my first child less than two weeks ago and was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I felt like I couldn't leave her in a different room because I feared something bad would happen to her. The quality of both the audio and video on this thing are AMAZING! Now she sleeps in a bassinet in our bedroom, and I can mount the camera to the bassinet and can get such a great closeup I can literally SEE her chest moving up and down, and of course can hear any disturbances. It really offers me peace of mind since I am a full-time student and have lots of things to get done around the house on a daily basis. I also love the fact that there are pre-programmed lullabies you can play as well as the option to speak to her through the monitor if I am out of the room. Great product! Totally worth every penny :) ***UPDATE*** While the quality of the audio and video are still just as good as the day I purchased this, I am finding the port for the charger cable for the monitor portion no longer holds the cable in the way it should. I am always very careful with this device and it hasn't been knocked over or dropped. Unfortunately it is difficult to get a decent, full charge with this issue and in the middle of the night it beeps at me telling me it is almost dead even though it is plugged in. :( Very disappointed as I am so careful with my electronics but it is past the return window now.
