First, the part was late by about a week, but we are all getting used to that now day. Second, the part was broken. I'm a good enough mechanic, and it was a simple part to fix, so I called MotorGuide tech support, thinking they would send the part out to me. Well, they wouldn't they told me I had to take it to an authorized shop, which was a 6 hour drive for a 25 dollar part, or buy the part outright. This all happened the day I got the trolling motor. I called Amazon, and they were willing to give me 300.00 back to buy parts, which was great. I stewed on it for awhile and decided MotorGuide could just eat it, and sent back for a full refund. Pros- price for performance is perfect for any kayak fisher. It's remote control ability is really useful l. Already cut down from manufacturer and doesn't require voiding warranty. Cons- the thing has a mind of its own sometimes. Decides to really want to stay on spot lock or destination lock and won't let you unlock. Lower speeds can be a hit or miss with light wind sometimes you need a in-between speed and either is too fast or too slow. ... show more

I put the motor on a Jackson Coosa with a 100ah lithium battery. Motor pushes the kayak fully loaded at a top speed of about 4.4mph. The spot lock feature is a must have when fighting the wind and waves and you want to stop and fish or when taking pictures of your fish to submit for a tournament.

I would not get this brand if I could do it again. Worked great last fall and was stored inside all winter, 1st time out this year and motor would not turn. Got home and started checking wiring and all the usuall stuff and found no issues, upon removing the long lower unit bolts dirty water started pouring out. once drained i cleaned housing as good as I could and reassembled and it started working again but this will not last once its in the water again.. For something that cost 1300 and is meant to be used in water to not last 6 months of very minimal use is pathetic.. I would steer clear of Motorguide products ... show more

Bought this xi3 gps in April, it broke (turn motor) 1 month later. 2 months for warranty, 200 calls, 50 emails in they still owe me $3000, and no end in site. Worst purchasing experience of my life
