Apparently, per Ford they have changed the labeling on these filters to a sticker. I initially assumed these were counterfeit but was assured they are not. Just FYI The paint doesn’t seem as thick now and one of my two had corrosion under the paint. I’m assuming they changed the labeling so they can source from multiple suppliers now. ... show more

    • Likely Counterfeit - Steer Clear

I strongly suspect that this was a counterfeit product. Filter was branded with a decal, Motorcraft filters have painted labels (see photos) additionally, the box was suspiciously beat up - which is an indication that the packaging was illegally acquired from discarded Ford packaging. A quick visit to Ford’s brand protection page indicated that counterfeit filters have been found to contain everything ranging from nothing to used shop rags. Based on this, I cut the filter apart and discovered that this particular counterfeit looked like real Motorcraft guts - which means it was likely an ‘overrun’ counterfeit - where products made by the real manufacturers but are either stolen or scooped up from quality control rejects and resold as ‘real’ ... show more

    • Upgrade for VW Bus w/Type IV engine

If you use this on a Type 4 VW, it will hold about a 1/2 qt more oil than stock, and because the filter is physically larger, that means there's more filter material to filter bad stuff without putting the filter into bypass. I would think the greater surface area of the filter body would also help with oil cooling too. I've been using these on my 1974 VW Bus with the Motorcraft Powerstroke diesel 5w40 synthetic oil and a can of 4 cylinder Restore additive for a few years and it works good with nice cold starts and no signs of over heating running 65-70mph highway speeds in summer. I still change my oil every 3k miles, and it does not look or smell overly burnt. I'm not someone who only runs a few tanks of gas through my engine a year. I usually run about 8k miles a year, and my bus has been from Montreal to Alabama and all over the entire east cost except FL. ... show more

The box looked old and worn and the filter gasket was dry. I oiled up the gasket before putting it on, as you should. After screwing it on and adding oil, it leaked. I took it back off and noticed the gasket had come loose. I fit it back in and more carefully screwed it on. Works fine now. I have to wonder how long these filters are sitting around. Might buy locally next time so I can inspect before buying. ... show more

Genuine Motorcraft Oil filter this is a very popular oil filter form the earlier days of Ford cars and trucks also fits some AMC and Chrysler cars and older Dodge trucks. I have been using this filter for over forty years on my pickup with out a problem and when you see some of the filters disassembled on you-tube you can see the quality that goes into Motorcraft filters. I'm sending all four filters I bought back because they are badly dented. One even rattles, which i don't care what they look like but I am afraid of them not working properly. I don't want to ruin a car engine over a $5 part. I guess the seller bought a bunch of cheap dented filters.

    • Good filter but rough shipping

They shipped a heavy oil filter loose inside a plastic bag. Rubber gasket came off in the bag and the metal housing had a nick in it that appeared to be a small crack. No way I'm running that on my engine. Since it cost so little, I just chunked it in the trash.
