the northstar engine in this car seems to always run kind of hot (200-210). I like knowing there is a failsafe thermostat that is definitely not the cause of this. it was the right part and shipped promptly. the car sensors indicate it is running kind of warm, even with a new radiator and thermostat and sensor. however the coolant temperature when measured with an independant calibrated thermometer tends to read about 20 degrees cooler than the dash computer, possibly a function of where gm located the temp sensor on the block. Anyway, worth it for the peace of mind. Why would anyone put a thermostat in a car that would fail in the closed position? that just doesn't make any sense.btw, replaced the 192 thermosat with a 180f part. car runs fine. some gm cars dont run too well when using a lower temp than specified thermostat but ok in this case ... show more

    • Buy Genuine GM Thermostat for your NorthStar Aluminum V8
Our Olds Aurora with the 4.0 Northstar V8 started overheating. Flushed the cooling system, replaced the 26 year old Radiator. Replace the Radiator reservoir Cap. New Thermostat, new coolant. Overheating was worse after all the new parts were installed. Was about to give up and then found a post on the Cadillac Owner's site. Someone there said to "Only use a Genuine GM Thermostat". So I Ponied up the money and put in the GM Stat. Car now runs cooler. I tested the Motorad and the GM stat on the stove. They both started opening at around 180 -182 degrees. What I noticed as I increased the temperature to 215 is the MotoRad opened around 1/4" and the GM, about 1/2 of an inch. Plus the MotoRad has 4 tiny holes drilled in the round plate and the GM had two large half-circle hole for better coolant flow. I would recommend using the GM Delco Stat. ... show more
