The thermostat fit the 2004 Dodge ram perfectly and it works exactly as it should. Easy uninstall and install and the truck is running great. I like that the device is designed to fail in the open position. So if there is ever a defect, at least the engine will not be damaged.

    • Safer than a regular thermostat
I had my truck overheat because my thermostat was stuck closed. I replaced it with this new type thermostat that allows a little bit of water to flow through all the time so that won't happen again. Great design great product it's work like it's supposed too. No more overheating.

    • Aluminum head vehicles need this!
If they make this for your vehicle, install it. This Fail-Safe thermostat locks in the open position if it fails & prevents overheating the engine. A definite must have for aluminum engines! Direct fit.

Truck keeps over heating after thermostat installation. Had me troubleshooting other causes, after no other issues were found I replaced the thermostat with OEM thermostat and truck is running normal, no more overheating issues. Lost alot of time because this thermostat didn't work correctly.

I had an overheating problem on my Dodge after replacing it with an expensive gates version I had bought from another website it was still over heating. I installed this one today and it worked without a problem didn't over heat

After having it installed by a garage I had to bring truck back d/t a leak. They said the seal failed. I didn't see any issues with seal when I got it and I am more inclined to think it was an install error. Not that a garage is going to admit it.

    • Great 2002 Ram 1500 4.7L Replacement
Used this on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L and it was a perfect fit. I tested the unit in boiling water on my stove before putting it in to ensure it was working to avoid having to replace it again and capture all the new coolant. Not sure what other reviewers mean about the gasket but it looks as solid as the factory one I took out. The actual mechanism is a little smaller but that doesn't mean it's not allowing the correct flow of coolant through. Time will tell how long it will last but my first week with it, everything has been normal. INSTALL NOTE: Now for all your 4.7L owners where the thermostat housing is on the bottom of the motor. The bolts you are removing are steel and the timing cover is aluminum. If you haven't changed the thermostat in a very long time, there is a very good chance you will snap the lower bolt on the housing as it is exposed on the back side. Mine broke with very little torque trying to remove it. I had no success with bolt extractors and ended up having to use a right angle drill to get it out and re-tap. If I was to do it over I would douse the bolts with penetrating oil everyday for a week before trying to remove it and on the day of the removal, use a torch to lightly heat up the area so the housing will relax it's grip on the bolt. What should have been a 15 minute job turned into a 3 hour ordeal. ... show more
