Features

  • MotoRad Fail-Safe Thermostats offer premium, patented technology for superior protection over any thermostat on the market. Only Fail-Safe is designed to lock in the open position when overheating occurs due to a failing cooling system component. This allows maximum coolant flow, thus preventing expensive engine damage.
  • When standard thermostats fail, they lock in the closed position and prevent coolant flow to the engine, which can cause serious damage to your engine. In the case of MotoRad Fail-Safe Thermostats, when overheating is caused by a deteriorating cooling system part, the fail-safe activates a precision-engineered piston. This automatically locks the valve into a wide-open position to allow coolant to circulate freely.
  • Fits select Chrysler Aspen, Dodge Dakota, Durango, Nitro, Ram 1500, Ram 2500, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee, Liberty, and Mitsubishi Raider. Be sure to select your vehicle above to verify this product will fit your specific application.
  • MotoRad thermostats are made with the highest quality materials from an OE supplier. They are 100 percent tested and calibrated.

  • Perfect Temperature Control.
After installing this thermostat I used one of my scan tools to monitor its performance. I could watch the thermostat open and close within 2°/f of 195°/f.

  • it works.
After having it installed by a garage I had to bring truck back d/t a leak. They said the seal failed. I didn't see any issues with seal when I got it and I am more inclined to think it was an install error. Not that a garage is going to admit it.

  • Great 2002 Ram 1500 4.7L Replacement
Used this on a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4.7L and it was a perfect fit. I tested the unit in boiling water on my stove before putting it in to ensure it was working to avoid having to replace it again and capture all the new coolant. Not sure what other reviewers mean about the gasket but it looks as solid as the factory one I took out. The actual mechanism is a little smaller but that doesn't mean it's not allowing the correct flow of coolant through. Time will tell how long it will last but my first week with it, everything has been normal. INSTALL NOTE: Now for all your 4.7L owners where the thermostat housing is on the bottom of the motor. The bolts you are removing are steel and the timing cover is aluminum. If you haven't changed the thermostat in a very long time, there is a very good chance you will snap the lower bolt on the housing as it is exposed on the back side. Mine broke with very little torque trying to remove it. I had no success with bolt extractors and ended up having to use a right angle drill to get it out and re-tap. If I was to do it over I would douse the bolts with penetrating oil everyday for a week before trying to remove it and on the day of the removal, use a torch to lightly heat up the area so the housing will relax it's grip on the bolt. What should have been a 15 minute job turned into a 3 hour ordeal. ... show more
