Description

Tackle the mosquitoes, no-see-ums, midges and black flies invading your home or business with the Mosquito Magnet Patriot Plus insect trap. This plug-in powered trap uses a variety of attractants to draw these insects away from people and toward the trap. Once the bugs come close, they're sucked inside the trap and into a net where they die a short time later. The Patriot Plus uses a 50-foot power cord, a propane tank, an attractant pack and a rigid net. By using one of the approved Mosquito Magnet attractant packs (Octenol, R-Octenol or Lurex3), the trap's catch rate increases up to 10X. The propane supply, attractant pack and net last about 21 days each. The propane tank is not included. The trap takes a few minutes to put together, and when assembled, it creates a sturdy, non-tipping machine that securely holds the propane tank. When in full operation, Mosquito Magnet's insect-attracting technology breaks the mosquito breeding cycle by emitting a precise plume of CO2, heat and moisture, ultimately mimicking the telltale signals mosquitoes seek for their blood meals.

  • Quit working after a month (Updated review)
*UPDATE* I'm updating my review and adding two stars to this review (for 3/5 total) because although it did stop working as described below, the return process worked well and the machine was repaired and returned to me VERY quickly, and upon return it set to work killing mosquitos. Since I had been without it for several weeks (including the period that it was broken before I sent it off to be repaired) the first week it was back on the job it really killed a lot of mosquitos as the population had bloomed. The second week back in action there were fewer kills, but that's probably because there were fewer mosquitos present. So I'm pretty happy at this point, and if it can get through the rest of this season and at least one more summer of use I'll bump the star rating up further. Original review: Really had high hopes for this, as I have an issue with mosquitos in my tree shaded backyard. I bought it in time to get it running in May (a bit ahead of the worst of it here in north Florida) and it caught a couple dozen mosquitoes and ran through a tank of propane over the next few weeks. I hooked up a second tank and it ran for about another week before it quit running (error code flashing) in June. The fixes recommended on their help line didn’t do the trick, so the next step is to mail it back to them for repairs. The mosquitoes definitely seem worse now that it’s not running - I can’t say if that’s due to seasonality or the mosquito magnet being out of commission, but I’m going to try to get it up and running again…hopefully soon! ... show more

  • The Patriot Mosquito Magnet (MM) does work, but needs maintenance.
The Patriot Mosquito Magnet does an excellent job, killing a rounded sandwich bag full of dead mosquitos. However it would not restart after the first two propane tanks (40) days! My previous Liberty (MM) lasted 15 years and thru maintenance I kept it running before it finally gave out! I think the Liberty finally stopped working because the catalytic converter was spent. The maintenance is not the fault of the Patriot (MM), it is the fault of the propane. Propane is a dirty gas and over time it will plug the burner orifice with a tar which in the presence of heat does not flush out with the "Quick Clear Maintenance Cartridge". I feel these cartridges are a waste of money. You must disassemble the (MM) to remove the burner nozzle and soak the parts in lacquer thinner for 30 minutes. You must remove the cover screws, unscrew the base of the (MM) and lift up enough to remove the fuel valve, unscrew the fuel valve hose and finally remove the burner nozzle. Disassemble the fuel nozzle and soak in lacquer thinner. It took me 1 hour but the next time it will be only 30 minutes since I will know how to do it. Also, to save time, all screws were put back lightly, not tight. I did not reuse the screws on the cover because I want to just lift it off. It will not blow away. After all this, I pushed the start button and away it went for I suspect another 40 day operating period. As I said, you must learn how the (MM) works, how to take it apart, clean it and reassemble it. You have to void the warranty to fix it yourself. The warranty will finally run out anyway, you might as well learn how to fix it yourself from the start. If you do, you will be rewarded with many years of killing thousands of mosquitos! Obviously in addition to cleaning the (MM) the following parts may fail with use: the igniter, temperature sensor and the plug in power supply (12v). The key here is to avoid shipping the (MM) for repair. It will eat you alive with repair charges. Good luck, Ed ... show more

  • Doesn't do much more than much cheaper traps.
The mosquito magnet is a good idea, but it isn't that effective. I've been using this for about a week in an area that has no shortage of mosquitos. Here on the Chesapeake bay and gun powder river the soil is always moist. This place is the perfect breeding ground for mosquitos and the perfect place to test something meant to kill mosquitos. The set up is easy, but the fitment on the all of the parts isn't great. The components are simple, but everything is a but wobbly and doesn't feel like it'll last very long. Internally you have a basket with a fine screen, a small propane burner, a circuit board and a fan. The circuit board, wires, and solder points aren't very well water proofed. It looks like the device relies on the heat of the burner to fend off condensation, but this is no substitute for properly insulating electronics. The plastic components feel like polypropene (I didn't check the manufacturer marks) and I'm curious to see how long it lasts in the sun. The propane line and the regulator seem to be pretty solid and probably won't be a point of failure. My negative opinion is not wholly based on the build quality. My 2 star review is almost completely based off of the performance. In the span of 3-4 days this machine has caught approximately 25-30 with the recommended attractant. 10 mosquitos a day isn't going to do much to reduce the mosquito population. I've has better luck with a box fan and a bedsheet. The Dynatraps catch mosquitos are a similar rate and they're far cheaper and less of an eye sore on a property. Altogether this machine feels like a gimmick. The only benefit this has over the Dynatraps is the ability to deter other flying insects from entering the trap. If this wasn't a wedding gift I would just returned the product. All in all this thing has fallen on its face and does not seem to have the ability to back its claims. *attached picture shows the first catch with the machine. ... show more

  • Update to Not doing anything
Have had this running for two weeks now and nothing to show for it. Going to return if doesn’t show some results soon! Well, after another week it seems to be doing better. Actually have mosquitos in the bin. Will keep an eye on it and hope it continues to improve.
