We have two of these and we have been using them for a few months now. At first we were not sure how to cut it but I will give some points and tips here so that you will not struggle like we did with the first one. It’s a very good idea to have a new pair of scissors or very sharp hair scissors or even a box cutter. Before you decide where to cut it is a good idea to mark with a pencil along the lines that you would like to be following. The pencil markings can work as your guide. I recommend also putting your original rock on top of this and then going inside about an inch on all sides. A trick to this so that you avoid cutting for sides all around is that you choose the side that has the stratus edges and put that corner in alignment with of course, going in 1 inch on each side of your rug and therefore you only have two sides to cut on the other side of the opposite corner. I hope this explains it. Then all you would need to cut is an L-shaped material off. So to go along with a pencil marking exactly where you want to cut. Or if you would like trace your carpet, and then cut 1 inch inside of that line marking. ... show more

iv always used carpet padding or those rubber bubble mat things under my rugs...til finding these! needed one that was thick.. but not "height"thick so my doors could swing over my rug. (or i would hav never tried this) and am obsessed with how awesome these are! took my rug from a thin nice, pretty pattern rug...to, a very expensive, durable, super soft, Persian rug! insane how different it feels walking in my rugs now. hav them all over my house&will never buy a dfrnt one ever again. hav had mine for almost a year, &just bought 2 for both my bathroom mats. game changer! ... show more

I am in the process of replacing our old wall-to -wall carpet with area rugs. The Mohawk dual surface is easily the best gripper/padding I have found. (I have used a few other products in the past.) The 1/4-inch cushion was enough to make my inexpensive rug look and feel much nicer... And nothing moves around on our older hardwood floors. The 8 x 10 pad arrived folded as I expected, but quickly lays flat to the floor. A good pair of scissors took care of the trimming, which leads me to my puzzlement. Many, if not most, 8x10 rugs are NOT 8x10. They are in what the industry calls the 8x10 "Rug Family". The rug can be anywhere from 2 to 8 inches shorter in either or both directions. This holds true for all area rug sizes. Don't try to explain this to me. I am a simple man and a I will never get it! Now consider that it is ALWAYS a good idea to trim any area rug pad 2 inches shorter (at the least) than the rug to help the borders to lay flat. This leaves and awful waste of Mohawks' fine product. Even if your rug was a true 8x10, the pad only needs to be 7' 8''x 9' 8''. In my case, I was left with a 10' strip 4'' wide and an 8' strip 8'' wide of waste. I refuse to throw this expensive stuff away no matter what my wife says! I have cut out inserts for all off my shoes. I have also insulated behind the wall plates of all our electrical outlets. I still have some padding left and could use some ideas! Sorry about my rant. I am retired now and have way too much free time. Thanks for reading! ... show more

Love this rug pad! Wish I had gotten it for other rugs in my house. It provides the additional cushion I need while not sliding on my hard wood floors. The shag rug I bought doesn't slide off the top at all either, as some of the other review mentioned. Bought the pad as the same size as my rug and had to trim about 1/4 inch of the length and width off, but it was easy to do with basic home scissors. Would definitely buy again! ... show more

I had to trim this pad to allow a "safety edge", but that wasn't a problem. The pad itself stay is place very well. The area rug didn't stay is place as well, but I put a thin piece of rug-to-rug padding between the layers, and it's perfect. I don't think the problem was with the padding, but with the open weave on the back of the area rug. I use this small rug for indoor exercise, and even after quite a bit of movement it stays in place. ... show more

I have a small dog that likes to run through the hallway where we have a runner. With my old rug pad, he would always move the carpet and it would end up in a ball. I was fed up with having to fix it everyday. I saw this Mohawk rug pad on Costco but it was actually cheaper here on Amazon. Since I swapped the rug pad I’m in shock over the difference. This new rug pad has a little cushion and it’s like glue to the rug. It hardly moves and was such an upgrade. It’s so much better than the cheap rubber-ish runners. ... show more

    • Very good pad for area rug on slippery hardwood floor
Style: 1/4 Inch Dual Surface Rug Pad Size: 2' x 12'
Bought three of these pads for area rugs on slippery hardwood floors under our Safavieh rugs. The pads are very good — the 1/4” feels very thick and luxurious. Non-slip and much nicer than the grid stuff. The rugs don't shift on them either. Think super thick gray felt. Improved the look, feel, and experience of the rugs immediately. We bought one 12’x9’, one 9’x6’, and one 2’x12’ runner. The sizes don’t match the rug sizes exactly (although it easily could be the rugs that are mislabeled), but the pads are easy to trim with sturdy shears. They won’t help with annoying curling rug corners though, still working on that! Some of the plastic corners and some carpet tape is needed. I looked for varieties of both that reviewers said work for carpet on carpet situations because that’s what these pads are like. Happy with these rug pads every day! ... show more
