I have just revised my original 1-star review (below) all the way up to a 5-star review! Although Amazon’s 30-day return window had closed, I decided to call Mohawk directly to report the awful smell. The very helpful claims rep I spoke with apologized and said the smell was a known issue which has since been fixed. She asked me to send her a copy of my Amazon order info, and she is sending me a free replacement shipment of three new pads with no smell. I take back what I said about Mohawk. They admitted the problem existed, fixed it, and are sending me a free replacement order. I have a new found respect for Mohawk and their very professional and helpful employees. And these pads are awesome. (Old review below:) I bought these three additional rug pads after first trying one under an area rug on my wood floor, and being satisfied with it’s ability to keep the rug pretty much in place in a high traffic area—even with two dogs running over it regularly. But when these pads arrived, they had a peculiar odor that I had not noticed with the first one. Assuming the odor would gradually subside after the pads were laid out and in use for a while, I put them down under the remaining area rugs. It has been 2 months now, and the pads still smell, and the odor is sickening. The Amazon window for returning them has closed, and I am out the money I have wasted on them. I had trusted that with a brand name like Mohawk, I was purchasing a quality product. But a one-month guarantee on something like this is not long enough to realize that you’ve been sold a defective product. This is the last Mohawk product of any kind for me.

This had a slight smell but it went away after a short time. It smells a bit like burnt rubber (which makes sense with a rubber backing). The rubber backing really holds the rug in place. Its probably one of the best non slip rug products I have purchased. I bought the 1/4inch thick one and I can tell a difference with its under the rug. To me this is perfect. It creates a soft rug on harder floors. If you want something really soft and squishy, then you will want something thicker. Its all based on your preference for what you want. The size is also slightly under an 8x10 rug so it doesnt stick out from under the rug which was nice. Though I may still trim it more.

This pad is exactly what I was looking for...the right amount of padding for my dining room carpet and a perfect fit. I did not have to cut it at all. Only con is the smell. As noted by others it is really awful. Fortunately I had a week before my carpet arrived so I was able to air it out in the fresh air and also sprayed it daily with Febreeze. I don't know how long it would have taken to get rid of the smell if I hadn't been able to hang it outside for a week.

Many say it has a bad smell. I didn't have that issue. Very faint smell but was gone within an hour after opening it up. It definitely helps to keep my floor a little warmer and keeps the rug in place. It is thin but the thicker ones were out of my price range. Overall ...Well worth it. Would definitely buy again.

STINKY, such a strong and persistent odor - like burning hair. Could smell the rug pad from another room, even with time to air out. Don't want to lay a nice rug on it. I'm a small lady and this rug pad is too big, heavy and unwieldy to roll back up, schlep to a car on my own and unload at UPS, unwrapped. This enormous pad was shipped shrink-wrapped in plastic, yet Amazon /UPS requires a box to return it via pick-up. So... buy a huge box for $40-50 to return a $115 item? Mohawk has not responded to request for assistance via their website. Avoid this problem. DO NOT BUY THIS!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent Non-Slip Pad — Makes a HUGE Difference! I bought the Mohawk Home 8’ x 10’ Non-Slip Grip Rug Pad to go under MY 8’ x 10’ rug in my living room, and it has been fantastic. The rug used to slide slightly every time someone walked across it, but this pad completely solved the problem — it hasn’t moved an inch since I put it down, which I love! This rug pad has a felt and rubber side. The felt side adds just the right amount of cushioning without making the rug feel too thick, and the rubber grip on the bottom keeps everything firmly in place. I also love that it’s low-profile, so my rug still sits nicely against the floor and doesn’t create any tripping edges for my kids and dogs. Another huge plus: it was super easy to trim for an exact fit. Regular scissors worked perfectly. There are no strange odors, no damage to my LVP floors, and it feels great. If you need a reliable rug pad for a high-traffic area, this one is absolutely worth it! Great quality and great value!!

Chinese craft people believe that every rug should have a small flaw suggesting that "nothing's perfect." If true, this rug is perfect in its imperfection.

I have several of these around my hardwood floored house! They are sooo necessary to keep rugs that aren’t anchored by furniture from sliding/moving as you walk across them! This most recent one is perfect, as are all of them! I purchased it for a 5x8 wool foyer rug. I was in between choosing the 1/4” pad vs the 1/5” pad (not a lot of height difference, but definitely noticeable under a rug!) I had an old 4x4 piece of the 1/4” height rug pad left over from a previous purchase and placed it under the foyer rug to make sure it was going to give me the proper cushion for the thick wool rug it was going to go under. After trying the 1/4” left over piece for several days and feeling for the proper height/cushioning i needed, I decided since the wool rug is rather thick and cushioned itself I went with the 1/5” pad and it’s exactly what I needed! I also have this same non-slip pad in a bedroom under a 5x8 rug that lies over carpeting… you just flip the pad, felt side down, onto the carpet with the rubber side ‘up’ lying under the bottom of the rug. It keeps the rug from moving on the carpet and from having to be repositioned every several days! I used to use the old weblike, window-pane looking, rubbery, yellow pads (which actually do work) but after realizing that over time they start to dry-rot and turn crumbly under rugs, and some of those pads actually leave a checkered looking imprint on the wood flooring, I stopped using them. Other reviewers have mentioned a smell? I have purchased several over the last 2 years and not one has had an oder to it. They do come folded up and may need a little bit of time to flatten out, I’ve found that the thinner the pad the less time needed. I have easily cut them to fit with basic, good scissors. I always cut them anywhere from 1-2” smaller than the rug so that it doesn’t cause the lip of the rug to be lifted up and lies flatter along the rugs edges!
